Zodiac Weapons

Zodiac Weapons are the level 50 Relic Weapons for A Realm Reborn. They were the first relic weapon series to be introduced in the game (the initial stage added late in Legacy), and they are upgraded by completing a series of tasks which is described in the "Quest" pages for each step, listed below.
Replicas of the Zodiac Weapons (for glamour) can be purchased from Drake if you either have the corresponding final-stage Zodiac Zeta Weapon in your inventory (so don't discard it!), or turn in the Zodiac Zeta Weapon as part of the Anima Weapon quest Soul without Life (you lose the weapon, but this grants permanent access to replicas).
Relic weapons from past expansions are not intended for combat use, but for cosmetic, achievements, and collection purposes. Weapons of similar power, for the same player level, that are much more easily obtainable and are intended for character progression can be bought with
Allagan Tomestones of Poetics. For level 50, these would be Augmented Ironworks Magitek Weapons.
Lore
“Eorzea has witnessed a resurgence of the old ways in recent days, as adventurers the realm over take up the ancient trades of warrior and dragoon, bard and black mage, and more. Now, it is the traditional weaponry of these old mantles that are sought, the means of their making long since lost to the ages. It would seem this longing for things past and old is not limited merely to the schools of war and magic. The reformation of Eorzea's Grand Companies was born of a longing in the hearts of the free peoples of Eorzea — a longing for the days of old and the peace they knew. It is a sentiment that has since spread to the realm's adventurers, guiding them toward the rediscovery of trades from a former age that had all but died out. Small wonder, then, that those who have mastered these ancient ways of battle and sorcery now seek the weapons of eld which will enable them to realize the truest expression of their newfound powers. Thus have adventurers begun their quest for the relics.

Zodiac Weapons (IL 80)

For detailed information about this step, see the above link.
To begin the questline for the first time, speak with Nedrick Ironheart at Vesper Bay, Western Thanalan and acquire the quest The Weaponsmith of Legend. This will introduce you to the blacksmith Gerolt in North Shroud.
For every Zodiac Weapon or job, you will need to complete a job-specific version of the quest A Relic Reborn from Gerolt. This quest involves a lot of killing specific enemies, doing specific level 50 Dungeons and Trials (which can be done easily unsynced), and collecting a few items.
- You will need to have unlocked Amdapor Keep ( Ghosts of Amdapor).
Each job needs to prepare a specific crafted weapon, melded with two specific materia:
- You can craft these yourself, or purchase them off the market board.
- If crafting these, note that the materials include items gathered from Unspoiled Nodes, as well as weapon pieces that drop from The Wanderer's Palace ( Trauma Queen).
| Job | Location | Zone |

| Sapsa Spawning Grounds (X-16, Y-17) |
At the end of the quest, you will need to turn in one Radz-at-Han Quenching Oil, which is purchased for
15 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics from Auriana in Mor Dhona. One of the quest steps will send you to Mor Dhona to speak to Rowena anyway, so it is recommended to purchase the oil while you're there.
- To save time on the next step, also purchase 3x Thavnairian Mist from Auriana for
20 each (
60 total).
After creating a weapon from this quest, you can repurchase that base weapon from the Calamity Salvager (in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks, Old Gridania and Ul'dah Steps of Thal) for
1,000 Gil (700 + 300 for paladin sword and shield). However, any upgrade tasks for later versions of the weapon will need to be redone manually.

For detailed information about this step, see the above link.
This step is very simple: interact with the Furnace near Gerolt in North Shroud, and trade your base zodiac weapon plus 3x Thavnairian Mists to upgrade your relic to the Zenith step.
- If you haven't already bought the mists during the previous step, they cost
20 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics each (
60 total) from Auriana in Mor Dhona.
There is no quest for this step - just do the exchange to perform the upgrade.

Atma Zodiac Weapons (IL 100)

For detailed information about this step, see the above link.
Complete the one-time quest Up in Arms, which introduces you to Jalzahn - he will be performing the weapon upgrades from here onwards.
For this step you need to collect 12 varieties of "Atmas", each of which has a 20% chance to drop when you complete a FATE with any Zenith Zodiac Weapon equipped. The atma you can receive depends on the zone:
Once you have collected all 12 atmas, talk to Jalzahn and select "Relic Weapon Zenith Enhancement". This will trade in the 12 atmas plus your relic, and upgrades your relic to the Atma step.

Animus Zodiac Weapons (IL 100)

For detailed information about this step, see the above link.
Complete the one-time quest Trials of the Braves, which introduces you to G'jusana in Mor Dhona.
You will need to complete the tasks in 9 "Trials of the Braves" books specific to your weapon. These books are sold by G'jusana for
100 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics each (
900 total). You can only hold one book at a time, and you must complete it before buying the next book, or else your progress on the incomplete book will be lost.
Each book tasks you with killing specific enemies, as well as clearing specific dungeons, FATEs and levequests, and all must be done with your Atma Zodiac Weapon equipped.
- The FATEs take the longest to do, as you might need to wait a while or visit other world servers to get the specific fate you need to spawn. It is generally recommended to prioritize checking on maps with the fates you need, and doing the other tasks to kill time between checks.
- Some of the book leves are Grand Company leves in Mor Dhona, which require reaching the rank of Chief Sergeant in your Grand Company. This requires clearing rank 1 of the Grand Company's hunting log, as well as clearing Shadows Uncast.
- You will need to unlock the following non-MSQ dungeons:
- Halatali ( Hallo Halatali)
- The Sunken Temple of Qarn ( Braving New Depths)
- Cutter's Cry ( Dishonor Before Death)
- Dzemael Darkhold ( Fort of Fear, or your Grand Company's version of Shadows Uncast)
- The Aurum Vale ( Going for Gold)
- The Wanderer's Palace ( Trauma Queen)
- Pharos Sirius ( Sirius Business)
- Copperbell Mines (Hard) ( Out of Sight, Out of Mine)
- Haukke Manor (Hard) ( Maniac Manor)
- The Lost City of Amdapor ( One Night in Amdapor)
- Halatali (Hard) ( This Time's for Fun)
- Brayflox's Longstop (Hard) ( Curds and Slay)
This is the longest step of the relic by a wide margin, due to the sheer amount of tasks required.
Once all 9 of your weapon's books are complete, speak to Jalzahn and select "Relic Weapon Atma Enhancement" to upgrade your relic to the Animus step.
When working on your second weapon onwards, it is highly recommended to do the books in a specific order in parallel with the "Zodiac Braves" subquests, as the two steps have a lot of overlap in required dungeons. This recommended book order is:
- Fall I → Earth I → Wind I → Fall II → Fire I → Fire II → Wind II → Netherfire I → Netherfall I

Novus Zodiac Weapons (IL 110)

For detailed information about this step, see the above link.
Complete the one-tme quests Celestial Radiance and Star Light, Star Bright to be introduced to Hubairtin in Central Thanalan.
To start, buy 3x Superior Enchanted Ink for
25 Allagan Tomestone of Poetics each (
75 total), and give these to Hubairtin to make a Sphere Scroll for your weapon. This scroll requires 75x Alexandrite and a large amount of Grade I-IV materia to complete it.
- Getting the Alexandrite
Complete these quests:
- Treasures and Tribulations from H'loonh in Wineport, Eastern La Noscea (X:21, Y:21) (unlocks Treasure Hunting)
- One Man's Trash in North Shroud (introduces you to Brangwine, who is important for a future step)
Once that's done, go to Auriana in Mor Dhona and purchase a Mysterious Map for
75.
- Use Decipher to open the map.
- Go to the X mark it shows, and use Dig at that spot to dig up the treasure.
- Interact with the chest, then kill the enemies that appear.
- Open the chest to receive 5x Alexandrite.
Each map gives 5x Alexandrite, so this totals to 15 maps per weapon, costing
1,125 total.
You can also get one map for free each day from Brangwine's quest Morbid Motivation, which requires you to complete a run of Duty Roulette: High-level Dungeons.
- Getting the Materia
With the 75x Alexandrite in hand, now you need to successfully infuse 75 materia into the sphere scroll. Initially you must use grade I materia, then grade II, grade III, and finally grade IV. As you infuse materia, a failure rate will be introduced - should an infusion fail, you will lose the materia, but you will not lose the Alexandrite.
Grade I and II materia tend to be the most-expensive on the market board (grade III to a lesser extent), as no NPCs sell them, and farming them yourself via Spiritbonding can take a while. To minimize gil spending, it is recommended to focus on just 2 or 3 stats whose materia are selling for the cheapest in your region/data center/world, which you can check on Universalis. This should minimize the amount of Grade I and II materia you'd need to buy. The scroll takes up to 11 materia of each grade, so expect to prepare around 20 of each grade of materia in case of fails.
For players on the free trial, the market board and trading are unavailable - meaning all materia must be obtained through spiritbonding.
- If leveling several combat classes but only intending to make one or two relics, the necessary materia might be obtained passively during the leveling process.
- For a more active grind: do lots of quick synthesis crafts with a high-level crafting class, using high-level tools, but low-level battle armor and accessories of high quality, as well as using a high-quality Superior Spiritbond Potion.
- Wearing the The Emperor's New Glamour Set also works very well for this approach. Since all of these items are item level 1, lower-level crafts can be used (such as Table Salt, which is gil-neutral in cost beyond the shards used for the craft).
Once you have made 75 successful infusions, go to Jalzahn and select "Relic Weapon Animus Enhancement" to upgrade your relic to the Novus step.

Nexus Zodiac Weapons (IL 115)

For detailed information about this step, see the above link.
Complete the one-time quest Mmmmmm, Soulglazed Relics.
Afterwards, speak to Jalzahn to have him "Soulglaze" your Novus Zodiac Weapon, which allows it to start collecting Light when you complete dungeons, trials, FATEs, Treasure Hunts, Mysterious Maps, and PvP with the weapon equipped.
- For Paladin, make sure to Soulglaze both the sword and the shield.
Each duty gives a certain amount of light, and every 2 hours certain duties give more light than usual. The duties on bonus are not indicated until after you complete the duty.
Doing the following duties unsynced is generally considered fastest:
- The Bowl of Embers (Extreme) (42~63 runs of 10 sec each) - Use a strong finishing move that can wipe out the last 20-30% of Ifrit's HP in one hit, ensuring his long invulnerability phase is skipped. If the phase is skipped, then the fight takes around 10 seconds; but if it is not skipped, then the fight takes around 1-2 minutes and becomes slower than other options.
- Thornmarch (Extreme) (42~63 runs of 10-40 sec each) - Use a strong initial burst to lower Moggle Mog to below 41.9% HP, then AoE down all of the adds immediately, so he spends his HP to heal all of them, KOing himself. If initial burst cannot reach that threshold, then Moggle Mog's second attempt to revive the adds might be enough for the kill.
- The Aurum Vale (21~42 runs of 2-3 minutes each) - Has lower damage requirements, just make sure you can one-shot the bosses. Only kill the bosses and the big Morbols to break the walls, ignore the small mobs.
- The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak (21~42 runs) - Even lower damage requirements.
Warning: if you do 100 dungeon runs in a single day, then the duty finder will lock you out until the next daily reset. This limit is only triggered by dungeons.
You can check your relic's current light progress by using the Zodiac Glass item that Jalzahn gives you (if you've discarded it, then Gerolt's assistant Drake can give you another one).
Once your relic has finished absorbing light, go to Jalzahn and select "Relic Weapon Novus Enhancement" to upgrade your relic to the Nexus step.

Zodiac Braves Weapons (IL 125)

For detailed information about this step, see the above link.
Complete the one-time quest Wherefore Art Thou, Zodiac.
This step requires completing 4 sub-quests (3 are in Mor Dhona, 1 is in Central Thanalan), with each giving a special material item as a reward. Each quest requires specific dungeons, purchased items, and crafted items.
You will need to unlock the following non-MSQ dungeons for some of the quest materials:
- Hullbreaker Isle ( King of the Hull)
- The Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard) ( Corpse Groom)
- The Stone Vigil (Hard) ( Blood for Stone)
- Sastasha (Hard) ( It's Definitely Pirates)
- The Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard) ( The Wrath of Qarn)
Purchased Items
| Quest | Item | Cost | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| All (1 per quest) | 4x Bombard Core | Serpent Quartermaster in New Gridania, Maelstrom Quartermaster in Limsa Lominsa, or Flame Quartermaster in Ul'dah
(requires Second Lieutenant rank) | |
| All (1 per quest) | 4x Sacred Spring Water | Auriana in Mor Dhona (x22,y6). (Appears only after completing Wherefore Art Thou, Zodiac) | |
| Method in His Malice | 1x Furite Sand | Merchant & Mender in Whitebrim Front in Coerthas Central Highlands (x13,y16) | |
| Labor of Love | 1x Allagan Resin | Merchant & Mender in Forgotten Springs in Southern Thanalan (x15,y29) | |
| A Ponze of Flesh | 1x Bronze Lake Crystal | Junkmonger at Jijiroon's Trading Post in Upper La Noscea (x26,y26) | |
| A Treasured Mother | 1x Brass Kettle | Tool Supplier & Mender in Hyrstmill in North Shroud (x29,y19) |
Crafted Items
The following items may be crafted or purchased from another player. They must be High Quality . The recipes are unlocked by the corresponding Master Recipes (1) book.
Each recipe requires an ingredient that comes from desynthesizing a specific item sold by the Merchant and Mender in The Silver Bazaar in Western Thanalan (x15,y29) for
3,000 gil.
- You do not need a high desynth level to get the ingredients, the RNG is the same regardless of desynth level.
- The chance of getting the ingredient from a desynth is estimated to be about 18%[1](
16,667 gil per ingredient, on average).
For your first weapon: when all 4 quests have been completed, bring the 4 special materials to Gerolt to complete the one-time quest His Dark Materia, which will upgrade your relic to the Zodiac Braves step.
For subsequent weapons: bring the 4 materials to Jalzahn instead, and select "Zodiac Weapon Recreation" upgrade your relic.

Zodiac Zeta Weapons (IL 135)

For detailed information about this step, see the above link.
Complete the one-time quest Rise and Shine to be introduced to Remon in Swiftperch, in Western La Noscea.
Remon will sell you 12 "mahatma" for
50 each (
600 total). Your weapon can only hold one mahatma at a time, and you need to do duties with the weapon equipped to "awaken" each mahatma.
This is effectively a shorter version of the Nexus light grind step, with the same recommended duties to do it quickly:
- The Bowl of Embers (Extreme) (2-3 runs per mahatma, 24-36 runs total, 10 sec each run)
- Thornmarch (Extreme) (2-3 runs per mahatma, 24-36 runs total, 10-40 sec each run)
- The Aurum Vale (1-2 runs per mahatma, 12-24 runs total, 2-3 minutes each run)
- The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak (1-2 runs per mahatma, 12-24 runs total)
You can check your current mahatma's progress by using the Zodiac Glass item (if you've discarded it, then Gerolt's assistant Drake can give you another one).
Once all 12 mahatma have been awakened, return to Jalzahn and select "Zodiac Weapon Awakening" to perform the final enhancement and obtain your Zeta weapon.
Congratulations! If this is your first time completing a weapon, make sure to do the follow-up quests The Vital Title and Kettle to the Mettle for an achievement and a couple bonus glamour weapons.
You can also buy replicas of previous steps of your relic from Drake in Hyrstmill in North Shroud. Note that you will need to have the "real" Zeta weapon in your inventory in order for him to offer replicas.
