Summary

Combat

• Because level 100 gear is released over the course of several major patches, players do not necessarily need to slowly increment the item level of their gear if they have recently reached level 100, and can instead jump directly to the highest item level gear that is most accessible.
• [IL 690] Players who recently reached level 99 - 100 should collect Artifact Weapons and Artifact Armor for free. Epochal Accessories drop from three dungeons: Alexandria, Tender Valley, and The Strayborough Deadwalk, but these do not need to be "farmed" to proceed with further upgrades.
• [IL 750] Current uncapped Ctomestone gear ( Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics): Historia Weapons, Historia Armor, and Historia Accessories

Best-in-slot gear

• Current "best-in-slot" (BiS) gear comprises a mixture of IL 795 Grand Champion's Weapons and IL 790 Grand Champion's/Augmented Bygone Brass Armor and Grand Champion's/Augmented Bygone Brass Accessories melded with certain materia.
  • This composition varies depending on the job and is intended to maximize desirable substats. Some jobs may have multiple BiS sets with specific Spell Speed or Skill Speed tiers.
  • BiS sets for each job are provided by The Balance.
  • BiS is not necessary to obtain unless if the player is planning on doing the ultimate raid scheduled for patch 7.5. BiS primarily allows players to more easily clear existing content.
• Higher item level gear will not be released until patch 8.0.
• Players who are doing Futures Rewritten (Ultimate) (and to a lesser extent The Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic)) are recommended to use IL 730-735 BiS, which will retain materia melds, instead of syncing down higher item level gear. This gear comprises a mixture of IL 735 Dark Horse Champion's Weapons and IL 730 Dark Horse Champion's/Augmented Quetzalli/Clouddark/Mistic Memory Armor and Dark Horse Champion's/Augmented Quetzalli/Mistic Memory Accessories melded with certain materia.

The Occult Crescent

The Occult Crescent field operation has its own gear progression due to having a low item level sync of 700.

• [IL 745] CArmor: Arcanaut's Armor. Within Occult Crescent zones, these provide a bonus to main stat and Phantom Job action damage. They can be upgraded to Arcanaut's Armor +1 and then Arcanaut's Armor +2 using materials obtained within Occult Crescent, increasing the bonuses provided. Upgrading to +2 in a reasonable manner requires completing the high-end The Forked Tower: Blood raid.
• [IL 745] CAccessories: Occult Accessories. Within Occult Crescent zones, these provide a bonus to main stat and Phantom Job action damage. There are 10 accessories, 5 each for disciples of war and disciples of magic. Equipping all accessories in a set will provide an additional bonus to these attributes. These are rare drops from Critical Engagements, random overworld coffers, Persistent Pot coffers, and Happy Bunny treasure coffers in The Occult Crescent: South Horn; each accessory type has a different source. They are also tradable on the Market Board.

DoH and DoL

Starting level 100 gear for crafters and gatherers consists of  Ra'Kaznar Tools (primary and secondary) and  Thunderyards gear.

As of patch 7.3, the IL 750 crafted level 100★★★ Gold Thumb's Tools, Crested Armor, and Crested Accessories, with specific melds as recommended by FFXIV Teamcraft for crafting and gathering, are recommended for frequent, high-end crafting and gathering, including EX and EX+ missions in Cosmic Exploration. All crafted gear must be  high quality to be considered worthwhile. While the equivalent item level level 100 Star Tech Tools and Star Tech Gear are available for orange scrips, they suffer from the inability to pentameld materia.

Players who do not craft and gather on a frequent basis should obtain the scrip set, which is cheaper to obtain than the IL 750 crafted set and relic tool.

The current step of the Erelic tool (Stellar Tools) is functionally equivalent to an IL 750 crafted tool with one CP +8 materia meld applied. However, the relic tools cannot be melded at all. Regardless, they are recommended for advanced Cosmic Exploration missions over Gold Thumb's primary tools due to the bonuses they provide. (There are no relic secondary tools, so Gold Thumb's secondary tools are the only BiS option).

Future

The following is based on patterns of recent expansions and is subject to change:

• Later-stage Cosmic Tools, to be released in patch 7.41 and in patch 7.5x, will outclass Gold Thumb's primary tools.
