Ever eager to put his lyrical skills to the proof, the wandering minstrel has crafted yet another tanka, this time deriving inspiration from your pitched battle against the auspice Suzaku deep beneath Hells' Lid. Knowing full well the suggestive power of his words, you once more close your eyes and set your mind adrift in the memories of that day, augmented by his dramatic flair...
— In-game description
Hells' Kier (Extreme) is a level 70 trial introduced in patch 4.4 with Stormblood.
Strategy
On entering the Hell's Kier (Extreme) arena, participants will notice four Pheonix corpses (Scarlet Ladies) scattered around its centre. Bear in mind that these will respawn if specific fire-based abilities hit them during the encounter. Also, healers should be mindful of Suzaku's auto-attacks throughout the battle whenever she is not actively casting abilities seeing as the main tank will be taking continuous damage.
Phase 1
| Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Screams of the Damned | Unavoidable party-wide damage. |
| Cremate | A tankbuster. |
| Fleeting Summer | A simple cone AoE aimed at a random player. |
| Rout | All players are marked with Rekindle spread circles and Suzaku re-appears on a random edge of the arena, charging across in a simple line AoE. |
| Rekindle | A spread circle that deals minor damage, but revives any Scarlet Lady corpses inside its AoE. |
| Phoenix Down | Five large Scarlet Tail Feathers appear covering the center and inter-cardinals, and four small Scarlet Plumes cover the cardinals. Each begin casting a simple circle AoE.
|
| Scarlet Lady | Four small phoenix corpses in the center of the arena that are revived when hit by either Rekindle or a Phoenix Down AoE.
Will attach a chase tether and inflict Burns to the player that revived it. If not killed within 15 seconds, casts Ashes to Ashes—wiping the party (and inflicting Suppuration on any survivors). |
A short introductory phase, the only major requirement is handling Phoenix Down and the Scarlet Ladies.
Each DPS should be assigned one of the four Scarlet Ladies in the center and a cardinal direction to bring it to.
Once Phoenix Down is cast, each DPS should destroy the Scarlet Plume in their assigned cardinal spot, then revive only their assigned Scarlet Lady. DPS must drag their Scarlet Lady out of the AoEs, into their assigned safe spot and kill it.
After this is completed, Suzaku will begin the next phase.
| Attack | Strategy |
|---|---|
| Screams of the Damned | -- |
| Rout | Spread out to the edges of the arena away from where Suzaku is charging. |
| Fleeting Summer | Dodge the AoE. |
| Cremate | Mitigate and heal. |
| Phoenix Down | Kill the four small Scarlet Plumes in the cardinals, ignoring the larger feathers in the center and inter-cardinals. |
| Rekindle | Targets all four DPS, who should each revive a Scarlet Lady, bring it to a different cardinal safe zone to kill outside of the AoEs. |
| Cremate | Mitigate and heal. |
| Screams of the Damned | -- |
| Dance Phase Start | |
Dance Phase
Suzaku will cast Eternal Flame, flying out of the arena and creating a lotus-like pattern with eight circles. The party will want to put one player in each circle.
A random arrow will appear in the circle and a ball of light will move towards it from the edge of the arena. If the player inside the circle is facing the same direction as the arrow when the ball of light collides with it, the player is given a stack of Damage Up.
A total of 10 arrows will appear for a maximum of 10 stacks of Damage Up if done perfectly, however, the Scarlet Melody meter will fill by four units for every arrow missed by a player.
Afterwards, Suzaku will cast Scarlet Fever, dealing party-wide damage based on how full the Scarlet Melody meter is.
Phase 2
| Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Southron Star | Unavoidable party-wide damage. |
| Ruthless Refrain | An unmarked radial knockback. |
| Mesmerizing Melody | A draw-in attack. |
| Well of Flame | Suzaku aims a giant simple line AoE at a random player. |
| Rekindle | Spread circles that target four to six players, dealing fire damage. |
| Scathing Net | A Stack marker targeting a random healer. |
| Phantom Flurry | A multi-hit tankbuster that inflicts the main tank with Physical Vulnerability Up, then ends with a 180 degree frontal AoE aimed at where the cast started.
|
| Scarlet Hymn | The four quadrants of the arena will each adopt a unique color and rune pattern. A phoenix outside the arena will fly clockwise towards icons matching the quadrants.
When the phoenix touches a quadrant, it will erupt. This deals high damage, a knock-up, and Vulnerability Up to players on the erupting quadrant.
|
| Close-Quarter Crescendo | All players are tethered to an orb with an arrow underneath. After a few seconds, players will be inflicted with a 4-second Forced March in the direction of that arrow. |
| Incandescent Interlude | Four towers are placed on the cardinals of the arena. Inflicts Fire Resistance Down II to players inside and Damage Down to all players if empty.
|
The arena transforms. Not only does a hole appear in the center, but the walls disappear on the outer edges; creating a fall hazard from both sides.
Players will need to watch out for both Mesmerizing Melody and Ruthless Refrain to avoid being knocked off the far edge or pulled through the hole in the center.
The main obstacle for this phase will be Scarlet Hymn. Players will want to look towards the upcoming group of icons to know which order the quadrants will erupt in.
- A general safe method to handle all patterns is to stand adjacent to the first erupting tile, then move into it immediately after it erupts.
Once Scarlet Hymn is combined with Close-Quarter Crescendo, players will want to aim to run into either the first or second quadrant (depending on arrow direction), as the first eruption will happen as debuffs are given with the second eruption a few seconds after.
The final attack to look out for is Incandescent Interlude. Each healer and tank will want to pair with a DPS on a cardinal. A tower will appear on each cardinal and either all tanks/healers or all DPS will be marked by Rekindle. Due to towers inflicting Fire Resistance Down II, marked players can not survive the towers. Suzaku will be casting Ruthless Refrain during this time, so players should stand close to the center and wait to be knocked back into the towers.
Should Suzaku live long enough, she will replace the entire arena with a single color quadrant and begin a long cast of Southron Star that will wipe the group.
| Attack | Strategy |
|---|---|
| Southron Star | -- |
| Mesmerizing Melody | Move to the far edge of the arena to avoid being drawn into the hole in the center. |
| Well of Flame + Rekindle | Avoid the AoE and spread out. |
| Scathing Net | Stack together. |
| Phantom Flurry | Mitigate and heal. A tank swap can occur before or afterwards. All players should run behind Suzaku to avoid the ending AoE. |
| Scarlet Hymn | Identify the pattern and avoid the erupting quadrants. |
| Mesmerizing Melody / Ruthless Refrain | Either stand close or far from the center depending on the attack. |
| Close-Quarter Crescendo | Identify which orb is tethered and what direction the player will be forced to run in, and ensure the Forced March will not run the player off the edge. |
| Well of Flame + Rekindle | Dodge the AoEs |
| Scathing Net | -- |
| Phantom Flurry | Handle as before. |
| Scarlet Hymn | Identify the pattern and prepare to avoid the eruptions. |
| Mesmerizing Melody / Ruthless Refrain | Either stand close or far from the center depending on the attack. |
| Southron Star | -- |
| Phantom Flurry | Handle as before. |
| Southron Star | -- |
| Incandescent Interlude | Separate into pairs with one Tank/Healer and One DPS on each cardinal. |
| Ruthless Refrain + Rekindle | Have those marked by Rekindle move to inter-cardinals while those unmarked get knocked back into the towers. |
| Well of Flame | -- |
| Scarlet Hymn | Will always be an opposite rotation pattern. |
| Well of Flame + Rekindle | Rekindle targets six players now. |
| Close-Quarter Crescendo | Aim to run into the first or second erupting quadrant. |
| Mesmerizing Melody / Ruthless Refrain | Either stand close or far from the center depending on the attack. |
| Phantom Flurry | -- |
| Southron Star | -- |
| Mesmerizing Melody / Ruthless Refrain | Either stand close or far from the center depending on the attack. |
