The Fourth

The Fourth is a world in Final Fantasy XIV. It is one of the Reflections of the Source and the setting of the Evercold expansion.

About

Geography

Once the land was lush with huge trees and endless lands and great seas, with noble kingdoms flourishing. It was known as the promised land. This was until the world was covered in ice, turned still and the people struggled to survive. This has happened 500 years ago [1]. This was caused by the "Frostglaer", a wall of cloud that is imbused with ice energy. Everything below is frozen solid[2]. To survive, people fled to the skies and built the "realmships". In this time, Arcane Giants roamed the lands and caused great peril among the people. In this time, the Warrior of Light arrived[3].

The Fourth's inhabitants in the sky reside on five "Realmships", or Fimm Himnar, each themed after an element. The following have been revealed:

Each Realmship has a keystone known as an "Ark Crystal". Despite it being cold up in the skies, the vessel's wards let the inhabitants live in relative comfort[4].

Inhabitants

Races inhabiting the Fourth are:

Arcane giants known as the jötnar tower above the skies and relentlessly pursue the realmships. The jötnar send forth their inorganic minions called thralls to attack.[7]

History

The full history of the reflection is currently unknown.
