In patch 6.01, the polygon count was increased, with the official reason being that the initial low resolution was to conserve memory usage. Despite this, the grapes have become a recurring joke in the playerbase, which has been acknowledged by Square Enix. During the 2023-24 Fan Festivals, a grape "stress ball" was given to attendees. The original grapes were later immortalized in the Labyrinthos Grape Lamppost furniture item, which explains, in-universe, that the low-resolution grapes were a prototype strain intended to make grapes more easily transportable at the cost of appearing less appetizing.
