— In-game description

Tactical Training - Exercise 3: React to Advanced Visual Indicators is a level 49 Hall of the Novice exercise introduced in patch 7.1 with Dawntrail.

General Information

The exercise is split into 5 sections. The first four sections are each an explanation of how a specific marker or other mechanic works, and then an exercise where you must properly handle that mechanic the same way you would during a combat Duty. The fifth section is a series of exercises in quick sucession where you must successfully handle multiple mechanics at once. There will be 3 NPCs representing your party members whose roles will adapt based on your own (to form a light party of 1 tank, 1 healer, and 2 dps) with whom you must work together to minimize incoming damage and thereby handle the mechanics correctly.

First 4 Excercises

  1. Proximity tether – Everyone will be marked with a proximity tether, move away from the enemy until your tether changes color and shape.
  2. Interceptable tether – A Bomb will appear, and the enemy will tether herself to it, stand between her and the bomb to intercept the tether and prevent the bomb from detonating.
  3. Gaze marker – The enemy will cast an attack with a gaze marker, turn your character away from the enemy. It does not matter where the camera or your character's head is pointing, only that your character has their back to the enemy.
  4. Esuna – If you are not the healer, a circular AoE will appear beneath you, and you will be afflicted with esuna-able Bind, preventing you from moving, and un-esuna-able Amnesia, preventing you from using Abilities. Wait for the healer to dispel your Bind, then move out of the AoE. If you are the healer, the tank will be afflicted with esuna-able Bind, and a circular AoE will appear beneath him. Cast Esuna on him so he can move out of the AoE.

Final Challenge

  1. Everyone will be marked with a proximity tether, and two sets of conal AoEs will appear in succession – Move the edge of the arena to negate the proximity tether, and avoid the conal AoEs while staying near the edge of the arena.
  2. Four Bombs will appear, and the enemy will tether herself to each one – Your allies will each intercept one tether, stand between the enemy and the bomb whose tether your allies are not intercepting.
  3. A large circular AoE will appear, followed by a large donut AoE, and the enemy will cast an attack with a gaze marker – Stand at the edge of the circular AoE, and then step into it once it is gone to avoid the donut AoE, making sure you are facing away from the enemy when her cast finishes (Right after the circular AoE disappears).
  4. A large circular AoE will appear in the center of the arena, and everyone will be pulled into the center of the arena and afflicted with esuna-able Bind (You will also be afflicted with un-esuna-able Amnesia if you are not the healer) – If you are not the healer, wait for the healer to dispel your Bind, then move out of the AoE. If you are the healer, cast Esuna on everyone, including yourself, then move out of the AoE.

Welcome, Master/Mistress Surname. In this training exercise, we will have you carry out even more advanced tactical maneuvers.
My agent here will serve as your opponent. Try to get a sense for her oncoming attacks, and handle them accordingly.
Take your starting position when you are ready to begin.
For your first exercise, allow me to demonstrate the proximity tether. Its marker looks like this...
When entangled with one of these, to remain near the enemy is to risk suffering a painful strike.
Instead, use what precious few moments you have to retreat until the tether's magicks weaken!

To start the next exercise, take your starting position.
Before we move on, there is another type of tether attack I wish to cover. Take note of this marker...
Unlike proximity tethers, these can be intercepted at will, allowing you to sustain a blow on another's behalf.
For this exercise, let's suppose your enemy intends to detonate a bomb. To prevent a lethal explosion, your only recourse is to shield the bomb yourself!

Next, I will teach you how to defend against a gaze attack. Behold its marker...
When the spell is cast, all those facing its direction will suffer some manner of unpleasant effect─in this case, petrification.
Fortunately, the solution is simple: you need but turn away from the enemy to neutralize its effects entirely!

For your next exercise, let us discuss status effects such as poison or paralysis─and, more importantly, the curing thereof.
While there are full many varieties of combat ailments, a fair few can be swiftly relieved with Esuna.
For this exercise, let's see you evade the attack as soon as Esuna has done its job!
