Beginner's Sage Guide

Sage (SGE) is a shield healer, who shares this role with scholar. It begins at level 70. As such, it is not recommended for new healers to begin healing with sage – it is recommended to instead begin with scholar, who has a similar playstyle, or other healers, instead.

Sages specialize in controlled healing, being able to heal, mitigate, and shield through constant sources of damage, while also being mobile. Sages specialize in ability healing, meaning they have weaker basic healing spells, but have among the greatest access to healing abilities, making them excellent proactive healers. They also have the highest personal damage amongst all healers, thouguh less burst damage when compared to white mage. Inversely from white mages, sages may struggle a bit more to recover, compared to other healers.

Addersgall is sage's unique main mechanic, allowing for instant or mitigation tools to be used with each stack. Sages also have access to Eukrasia, which augments their offensive and healing spells.

Offense

All healers should do damage, with sages in particular doing very high amounts of damage, more than any other healer. They are actually rewarded for dealing damage, as placing Kardia upon any party member (mainly the tank in dungeon trash pulls), will allow them to be healed upon you dealing damage to any enemy.

  • Dosis and its upgraded variants are sage's single-target damage spell. When no healing is needed, sages should always be casting this spell to deal damage.
    • Upon using Eukrasia, Dosis is changed to Eukrasian Dosis, and its upgraded variants when available. Eukrasian Dosis is sage's damage over-time spell. Although it is instantly casted, it will only leave enough time for one ability to be used in between it and the next spell. Whenever on the move following the tank in dungeons, apply Eukrasian Dosis to every enemy, since you will not be able to stop and cast Dosis. Refresh the duration of Eukrasian Dosis by casting it again on the same enemy if its duration is about to expire. If an enemy is about to be defeated, continue using Dosis instead.
  • Dyskrasia and its upgraded variant are sage's AoE damage spell. Whenever there are a group of two or more enemies, cast Dyskrasia instead of casting Dosis; it will deal its full potency to every enemy hit!

Healing

For information on how to heal, read the Healer Guide! It is highly advised that you read that page after reading this section.
As stated before, it is not recommended that you do not begin healing with sage; begin with other healers, first.

Basic Healing Spells

  • Diagnosis is sage's basic single-target heal.
    • When Eukrasia is used, it is changed to Eukrasian Diagnosis, which also grants a barrier to the target, on top of some healing.
    • Whenever Eukrasian Diagnosis is available but Addersgall is not, it is recommended that you only use Diagnosis if the target has low amounts of HP even with the shield applied, as you cannot stack shields.
  • Prognosis is sage's basic AoE heal.
    • When Eukrasia is used, it is changed to Eukrasian Prognosis, which also grants a barrier to the targets, on top of some healing.
    • Whenever Eukrasian Prognosis is available but Ixochole is not, it is recommended that you only use Prognosis if all targets have low amounts of HP even with the shield applied, as you cannot stack shields.

Healing Abilities

A good healer is one that maximizes the use of all of their healing abilities: actions that are typically free of cost, but have a cooldown instead, and can be casted in between casted spells. As stated before, sages largely specialize in ability-based healing, meaning that abilities with cooldowns or Addersgall are recommended as the main form of healing, and not Diagnosis, or any other basic healing spells. The sole exception to this is Pneuma, which is unlocked at level 90, and is still on a cooldown.
Despite some abilities having AoE utility, they may be used as forms of single-target healing for the tank.
Actions that consume Addersgall will recover 7% of your maximum MP (almost always 700 MP), and takes 20 seconds to recover one stack.

In dungeons, use Kardia on the tank. Every time you deal damage, you will heal the person whom you placed Kardion on for a bit. By itself, it may be enough to solo heal low-level dungeons, and is otherwise, a functionally permanent regen.
Furthermore, at level 35, sages learn Soteria, which massively increases the amount of healing Kardia recovers, helping sages maintain control and allowing them to continue dealing damage instead of casting a spell-based heal.

Both Physis actions grants an AoE regen, and have the same use cases. Because of their very short cooldowns, they may also be used liberally in trash pulls in dungeons to supplement healing from Kardia, or other healing abilities.
Physis II further increases the amount of healing received, making it easier to heal the tank in dungeon trash pulls for the time being.

Costing one stack of Addersgall, you can instantly heal a large amount of HP to any target. This should be one of your main sources of healing, and should be prioritized over Eukrasian Diagnosis, and completely invalidate Diagnosis outside of if you run out of tools or MP. As with all actions that consume Addersgall, this action will recover 7% of your max HP, further invalidating Diagnosis.
If the tank is in dire need of quick healing, this action may be weaved after Eukrasian Diagnosis for powerful burst healing, on top of a barrier.

Costing one stack of Addersgall, you grant everyone in range of yourself 10% damage reduction. This action sees greater effect in 8-player content, where more damage is functionally mitigated with this action to help mitigate any raid-wide damage.
Until level 78 and learning Enhanced Kerachole, it is generally not recommended to use this action to mitigate the tank in dungeon trash pulls. Upon reaching level 78, Kerachole will receive a regen effect, which will make it heal more than Druochole over-time, making it worth using for the tank. The regen may entire recover from any raid-wide damage, or otherwise help with any recovery afterwards.

Costing one stack of Addersgall, you heal everyone in range of yourself for more than Prognosis and Eukrasian Prognosis. With its short cooldown, you may choose to entirely resolve raid-wide damage with this action and Kerachole, but do remember that this combination of actions will cost two stacks of Addersgall. If needed, (Eukrasian) Prognosis will still help to supplement the heal, but do remember to not overheal!

Zoe increases the potency of your next healing spell, meaning abilities are not affected by Zoe, by 50%. If the tank is in need of spell-based healing, you may choose to supplement your first cast of Eukrasian Diagnosis with Zoe, and recover more HP with Druochole.

Pesis removes any spell-based barrier you place on targets, and heals the targets for a fixed amount, even if the barrier is nearly spent. This will only remove the barriers from Eukrasian Diagnosis and Eukrasian Prognosis, not with any other action that grants barriers, at all. Furthermore, barriers consumed from Eukrasian Diagnosis will recover slightly more HP.
A combo sages may do for powerful spell-based burst healing if all stacks of Addersgall are spent, is to immediately consume the barrier granted by Eukrasian Diagnosis/Prognosis with Pepsis, then cast either of those spells again while under the effect of Zoe. This combo cannot be done with Zoe first, as, stated before, the strength of the barrier will not affect how much HP is recovered through Pepsis.

Taurochole is a stronger version of Druochole, spending one stack of Addersgall with a cooldown of 45 seconds. It also grants a 10% damage reduction to the target, but does not stack with the damage reduction effect of Kerachole. Both actions will overwrite each other's damage reduction.
You should use this action before using Druochole, unless you have already used Kerachole (see notes on using Kerachole after level 78, upon learning Enhanced Kerachole).

Haima will grant a small barrier to its target, and if the barrier is spent, grants another barrier, up to five times. If any stacks of Haima are left when its duration expires, it will heal the target's HP by half the strength of the barriers.
Haima will make tanks essentially invincible in dungeon trash pulls during its duration, and should be used immediately. In bosses, Haima can be used for the tank against tankbusters, as the small barrier will grant some mitigation, and any further barriers will provide protection against auto-attacks.

Rhizomata will instantly grant one stack of Addersgall. It is recommended to only execute this action if below two stacks of Addersgall, because if it grants the third stack by itself, it will reset the counter to regenerate another stack of Addersgall.

Like Kerachole, Holos will grant everyone near you a 10% damage reduction. It will also heal and grants a barrier whose potency is equivalent to the heal, making it a very potent tool to recover from, and prepare for the next instance of raid-wide damage.
The damage reduction effect of Holos will stack with the damage reduction effect of both Kerachole and Taurochole, allowing it to be used as another form of mitigation for the tank in dungeon trash pulls.
