"Another day, another commission of paramount importance..."
A member of the gleaners' guildship, Erenville specializes in the collection of live specimens. He is an accomplished scholar, far more knowledgeable than one might expect for a researcher of a mere twenty-five summers, which is perhaps why the Forum personally requested his services while preparing for the star's evacuation. Upon learning of these plans, he refused to abandon our world and its countless undiscovered wonders, electing instead to assist the Scions in their efforts to save Etheirys. He now works closely with the Students of Baldesion, though despite his deepening relationships with such curious sorts, none yet know what he was called before he departed his home and took the name Erenville.
— Encyclopaedia Eorzea Volume III, p. 177
Erenville works as a Gleaner, a Sharlayan scholar who gathers samples of the flora and fauna of the world and brings them to Labyrinthos to be cataloged and studied, adding to the ever-growing list of knowledge and papers of information that Sharlayan hordes. Erenville meets the Warrior of Light and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn as they investigate the actions of The Forum. The Warrior of Light aids him first in gathering escaped marmots, and then again in tranquilizing a Hornbill specimen.
When asked why he is being made to gather creatures already present in Labyrinthos, he explains that though he does not know, he and his fellow Gleaners are being tasked with gathering up all manner of creature and and plant, those of especially hardy nature, and bring them to the lower levels of Labyrinthos, and their best guess is that they are preparing to migrate somewhere, potentially to the east to Meracydia, where the land has become inhospitable. When Y'shtola asks to be brought to the lower levels, he says he is unable to do so, but advises the group of a mineshaft that leads further down that they may utilize.
After following him for some time, the group notices Erenville on his way to meet with some members of The Forum. Wishing to tail him but not be seen, Y'shtola transfigures the Warrior of Light, Alphinaud and Alisaie into frogs, so they may follow him in secret. They witness a conversation where Erenville asks why the gleaners are being pushed to such extremes without being given an explanation and with such urgency. The member of The Forum tells him that Sharlayan is beholden to an ancient duty, and with talk of the Final Days being upon them, it is time for them to fulfill that duty. He tells Erenville that all will be made clear and the Gleaners would realize they toiled for the greater good. Erenville, for his part, suggested The Forum find a more immediate solution to their working conditions, lest the Gleaners rise up in protest. Noticing the three suspicious frogs sitting nearby, he sighs and tells the Warrior of Light that he hoped what they heard was informative, and that for his part he believes The Forum holds their best interests at heart, and with the Scions snooping around, he was reassured that things would work out. When the transfiguration spell wore off, Alisaie asked how he knew it was them. He simply replied that if they seek to imitate something, study it, and try not to fool an expert.
Much later, when the Ragnarok was being refitted for the long voyage to Ultima Thule, Erenville aided in reaching out to the Eorzean Alliance and bringing in workers and resources for those who sought to take refuge on the moon.
Dawntrail
A member of the gleaners' guildship in Sharlayan, Erenville hails from the continent of Tural, and has taken on the role of guide for the Warrior of Light during the rite of succession. Though he appears to harbor reservations after learning the contest involves the fabled city of gold, the source of his misgivings remains unclear.
— Dawntrail Special Site
Born to Cahciua in the Yyasulani region of Tural, Erenville was raised to appreciate the wonders of the natural world, the wild creatures which dwell within it being the primary focus of his education. His Shetona mother, loving parent and demanding mentor both, set her child the task of discovering the legendary city of gold ere she would consider his tutelage complete. Once fully grown, a determined Erenville thus traveled to Old Sharlayan to gain the wisdom and experience necessary to complete this daunting challenge. Yet even as he mastered a gleaner's practical duties, capturing many a beast across many a land, he came to believe the golden city was nothing more than myth─a tale to impress and inspire children. A pivotal event in Tuliyollal, however, would change Erenville's mind. Known as the rite of succession, this contest was to decide the heir to Dawnservant Gulool Ja Ja's throne. The gleaner's childhood friend and Third Promise of Tuliyollal, Wuk Lamat, announced her participation as a claimant, and enlisted his assistance in the search for a mighty champion who could help secure her victory. In response to this request, Erenville introduced her to the Eorzean hero he met during the chaos of the Final Days. The young Shetona also agreed to return with them to Tural and act as guide, and in so doing unknowingly set himself on a path towards the goal he had long ago dismissed as impossible fantasy. For once they arrived, he learned that the contest's ultimate objective was to seek out the long-hidden city of gold.
With the aid of her Eorzean allies, Wuk Lamat performed the myriad feats required of her by the Dawnservant's electors, and after a long and arduous road did she and her companions at last descend into the Skydeep Cenote and reach the gate to the golden city. Thus did the Third Promise win the contest, and claim the throne in both her and her brother Koana's name.
Afterwards, Erenville sought to return home and inform his mother of the task's completion, only to witness the sudden appearance of a mysterious dome encapsulating Yyasulani. An army of mechanical soldiers issued forth from within to launch an assault on Tuliyollal, an event which led to Erenville accompanying Wuk Lamat on a mission to infiltrate the dome itself. Once inside this unnatural fusion of his home and another world, in which thirty years had somehow passed in the blink of an eye, Erenville encountered an odd machine that introduced itself with his mother's name. During the decades she had been isolated from the Source, Cahciua had been leading a revolutionary group known as Oblivion in a fight against Wuk Lamat's adoptive brother Zoraal Ja, in an attempt to frustrate his plans for invasion.
Erenville worked alongside Cahciua and her resistance fighters to topple the King of Resolve, and in doing so learned a sad truth. His mother, whom he believed to be controlling her machine avatar remotely, had already perished and been recreated from her memories as one of the Endless. After the final, bittersweet moments they spent together in Living Memory, Erenville vowed to carry on Cahciua's life work: to travel the world and catalog creatures yet undiscovered. He would board a ship bound for distant shores not as a gleaner, but as a man in pursuit of a new dream.
— Erenville (Unending Codex)
After the events of Dawntrail, Erenville is no longer a Gleaner, and is now considered a Former Gleaner.[1]

When conversing with Wuk Lamat, Erenville expresses that technically speaking, he was a girl in his youth.[2]
