Lore

"Another day, another commission of paramount importance..."

A member of the gleaners' guildship, Erenville specializes in the collection of live specimens. He is an accomplished scholar, far more knowledgeable than one might expect for a researcher of a mere twenty-five summers, which is perhaps why the Forum personally requested his services while preparing for the star's evacuation. Upon learning of these plans, he refused to abandon our world and its countless undiscovered wonders, electing instead to assist the Scions in their efforts to save Etheirys. He now works closely with the Students of Baldesion, though despite his deepening relationships with such curious sorts, none yet know what he was called before he departed his home and took the name Erenville.

— Encyclopaedia Eorzea Volume III, p. 177

Erenville works as a Gleaner, a Sharlayan scholar who gathers samples of the flora and fauna of the world and brings them to Labyrinthos to be cataloged and studied, adding to the ever-growing list of knowledge and papers of information that Sharlayan hordes. Erenville meets the Warrior of Light and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn as they investigate the actions of The Forum. The Warrior of Light aids him first in gathering escaped marmots, and then again in tranquilizing a Hornbill specimen.

When asked why he is being made to gather creatures already present in Labyrinthos, he explains that though he does not know, he and his fellow Gleaners are being tasked with gathering up all manner of creature and and plant, those of especially hardy nature, and bring them to the lower levels of Labyrinthos, and their best guess is that they are preparing to migrate somewhere, potentially to the east to Meracydia, where the land has become inhospitable. When Y'shtola asks to be brought to the lower levels, he says he is unable to do so, but advises the group of a mineshaft that leads further down that they may utilize.

After following him for some time, the group notices Erenville on his way to meet with some members of The Forum. Wishing to tail him but not be seen, Y'shtola transfigures the Warrior of Light, Alphinaud and Alisaie into frogs, so they may follow him in secret. They witness a conversation where Erenville asks why the gleaners are being pushed to such extremes without being given an explanation and with such urgency. The member of The Forum tells him that Sharlayan is beholden to an ancient duty, and with talk of the Final Days being upon them, it is time for them to fulfill that duty. He tells Erenville that all will be made clear and the Gleaners would realize they toiled for the greater good. Erenville, for his part, suggested The Forum find a more immediate solution to their working conditions, lest the Gleaners rise up in protest. Noticing the three suspicious frogs sitting nearby, he sighs and tells the Warrior of Light that he hoped what they heard was informative, and that for his part he believes The Forum holds their best interests at heart, and with the Scions snooping around, he was reassured that things would work out. When the transfiguration spell wore off, Alisaie asked how he knew it was them. He simply replied that if they seek to imitate something, study it, and try not to fool an expert.

Much later, when the Ragnarok was being refitted for the long voyage to Ultima Thule, Erenville aided in reaching out to the Eorzean Alliance and bringing in workers and resources for those who sought to take refuge on the moon.
