Walkthrough

During this quest, Bakool Ja Ja will challenge Wuk Lamat to a duel. The player will control Wuk Lamat, who has a very simplified set of warrior actions. During the battle, the limit break gauge will periodically fill, giving Wuk Lamat access to Dawnlit Conviction, a strong AoE attack with additional buffs.

Wuk Lamat's Actions

Action Type Cast Time Recast Time Tooltip Usage
Tail of the Br'aax Combo Weaponskill Instant 2.30s Executes the following actions in succession:

1. Claw of the Br'aax
    Potency: 220
2. Fangs of the Br'aax
    Potency: 320
3. Tail of the Br'aax
    Potency: 440
Combo Bonus: Restores own HP
Cure Potency: 250
If any of these weaponskills are not ready, the combo will start again.

Basic single-target combo and restores HP.
Turali Judgment Combo Weaponskill Instant 2.30s Executes the following actions in succession:

1. Trials of Tural
    Potency: 150
2. Turali Fervor
    Potency: 210
3. Turali Judgment
    Potency: 270
If any of these weaponskills are not ready, the combo will start again.

Basic AoE combo. Does not restore HP.
Luwatena Pulse Ability Instant 30.00s Increases maximum HP by 20% and restores the amount increased.

Additional Effect: Increases HP recovery via healing actions on self by 20%
Duration: 10s

Healing cooldown similar to Thrill of Battle Thrill of Battle.
Beak of the Luwatena Weaponskill Instant 2.00s Delivers a ranged attack with a potency of 150.

Additional Effect: Increased enmity

Basic ranged attack similar to Tomahawk Tomahawk. Enmity is irrelevant.
Run of the Rroneek Ability Instant 30.00s Rushes target and delivers an attack with a potency of 150.

Maximum Charges: 3
Cannot be executed when bound.

Damaging gap closer similar to Onslaught Onslaught.
Dawnlit Conviction Limit Break 3.00s Unleashes strength befitting a Dawnservant's legacy, delivering an attack to all enemies in a straight line before you.

Additional Effect: Absorbs a portion of damage dealt as HP
Additional Effect: Grants Roar of Conviction and Life Siphon
Duration: 15s
Roar of Conviction Effect: Increases damage dealt by self
Life Siphon Effect: Absorbs a portion of damage dealt as HP

Damages enemies, increases damage dealt, and gives Bloodbath-like effect.
  • Roar: Unavoidable damage and spawns a dangerous AoE at the edge of the arena.
  • Lethal Swipe: The boss jumps to one side of the arena and uses a late telegraphed 180 degree frontal cleave. Get behind.
  • Magicked Standard: Spawns five torches, leaving the intercardinals empty.
  • Kickdown: Telegraphed knockback in the direction of the arrows, also dealing damage. Position to be knocked away from a torch, as they will each use a late telegraphed point-blank AoE (Arcane Activation).
  • Fireshower: Spawns two sets of circle AoE telegraphs. This is combined with Great Leap, a circle AoE that slowly follows Wuk Lamat and expands to a massive size until it stops moving and locks in.
  • Magicked Standard: Now spawns six fire torches and three wind torches. Stand underneath a wind torch, as they will use a donut AoE.
  • Shadow Siblings: Bakool summons three targetable clones of himself. All four enemies will cast Lethal Swipe, but only one will be glowing red (indicating that it is the real Bakool Ja Ja and will use a frontal cleave), while the others will instead explode in late telegraph point-blank AoEs. Get behind the red Bakool.
  • Riotous Rampage: Sequentially spawns three towers that need to be soaked in the order they spawn.
  • Magicked Standard will be combined with Kickdown again, but there will be wind torches in addition to fire torches, so position to be knocked back to a wind torch.
  • Supreme Standard: Spawns four purple torches that will chain Wuk Lamat and immobilize her, while Bakool begins casting a line AoE at her. Complete the Active Time Maneuver to break the chains. Afterwards, Wuk Lamat will automatically use a tank limit break to mitigate Bakool's attack (Might and Magic).
  • Bakool will summon several targetable Hired Thug adds, which should be defeated with Wuk Lamat's Turali Judgment combo. Meanwhile, untargetable adds will use telegraphed line AoEs (Run Through) at Wuk Lamat, spawn proximity AoE markers (Fireflood), and spawn baited circle AoEs.
  • Later on, untargetable Doppro Illusionist adds will cast Turali Quake, spawning two sets of circle AoEs that cover the entire arena.
  • The Doppro Illusionist, Hoobigo Lancer, and Hoobigo Guardian adds will become targetable and should be killed.
  • Afterwards, finish off Bakool Ja Ja, who will have a Vulnerability Up debuff.

Steps

Journal

  • Hunmu Rruk stands quietly, his expression one of old pain.
  • After divulging the truth of his relation to Wuk Lamat, Hunmu Rruk requests a moment to compose himself. You return to the Garden of the Stars, leaving the Xbr'aax Rax alone with his thoughts.
  • No sooner do you rejoin Wuk Lamat than one of Bakool Ja Ja's minions arrives to escort Wuk Lamat to an undisclosed location for purposes unknown. Whatever it is, it cannot be good, so Wuk Lamat answers this summons with you as her second. Thus are you led to the Xobr'it Cinderfield, where you discover that a swaggering Bakool Ja Ja holds hostage Hunmu Rruk─whom he exposes as Wuk Lamat's birth father. The elector's release is contingent upon Wuk Lamat placing her keystones on the line and triumphing over Bakool Ja Ja in single combat. All you can do is trust in your friend as she attempts to settle the score with her tormentor once and for all...
  • Bakool Ja Ja brings to bear the full wrath of blessed siblings, but to little effect. Unable to tolerate the impending defeat of their fearless leader, lackeys and bandits who have tied their fate to the two-headed claimant join the fray─yet Wuk Lamat stands firm. Out of options and out of strength, Bakool Ja Ja flees into the forest, abandoning his prisoner.
    • Before Wuk Lamat can confirm the truth of her heritage, Hunmu Rruk diverts the conversation, praising her strength as Gulool Ja Ja's daughter. His eyes bespeak a kindness and resolution to leave other words unsaid, which Wuk Lamat no doubt sees as well. Though you cannot know her heart, her smile says enough.
  • Wuk Lamat has proven to both herself and the world that even when forced to stand alone, she is capable of protecting what is precious to her. Whatever the final feat demands, it is clear that she can rise to the occasion.

Dialogue

Recalling the past has rendered me...emotional.
I require a moment to compose myself. But please, do not keep the Third Promise waiting.
I feel better having spoken with you. My thanks.
Finished speaking with Hunmu Rruk, have you?
Upon speaking with Wuk Lamat, several cutscenes will play in sequence.
It is recommended that you set aside sufficient time to view these scenes in their entirety.
You're back! So what did Hunmu Rruk want?
Heh, it's all right, you don't have to say. More importantly, the Ty'iinbek Traverse still isn't clear yet. Something about even more rocks.
Then I think I'll take the opportunity to rest. All that cooking and preparing for it has worn me out...
A nap does sound tempting...
A moment, Promise.
You're one of Bakool Ja Ja's... What do you want?
I've come to fetch you. You're welcome to refuse, but know that it would be most unwise.
And why's that?
I'm sure your salted friend has an idea. What do you think?
And they say house cats don't come when called! Follow me, Promise.
In this battle, you will play as Wuk Lamat.
Through skillful combat, Wuk Lamat will gain the resolve she needs to unleash powerful limit breaks.
Not only do these attacks deal great damage, they will recover HP. Use them early and often to emerge victorious!
You must be a Disciple of War or Magic of level 94 or above to proceed.
For as weathered as our Promise looks, she's positively glowing with confidence. What in the world happened?
The twins ran me from one end of the Ut'ohmu Horizon to the other, asking about everything of remote interest along the way...
Erenville's tour was both educational and exciting! I hope we can persuade him to conduct another in the lower forests.
Did something happen while we were away? There's a certain satisfied air about you...
Seems we were last to return. I'm glad everyone made it back safely.
Thank you for having faith in me. Keeping out of the fight even when it got dirty couldn't have been easy for you.
But Bakool Ja Ja won't be the last person to threaten those I care about.
I wanted to prove to myself that I can stand up to such villains, even when I stand alone.
Which isn't to say I won't ask for your help when I need it, of course! I know better than that now!

Cutscene 1

Start of voiced cutscene.
What is the meaning of this? And just how far do you plan on taking us?
Hunmu Rruk!?
Bakool Ja Ja, you snake! If you want my keystones so badly, you deal with me and me alone! Leave the elector out of this!
Ghahahahahaha!
Is that all you think he is? Foolish kitty, this man is the reason we are here.
Take a good look at him. Go on, look. Surely you recognize your real father!
Don't believe us? Then ask your trusted sellsword─she/he heard it straight from the old man's mouth!
Is it true? Is Hunmu Rruk my...
...Your silence says it all.
Now that you understand the situation, let's see those keystones. I'll even let you fight for them─just you and me.
If that adventurer attempts to interfere...
I'll kill the old man myself!
You despicable, heartless fiend...
Kinsman or no, I won't stand for you taking hostages!
Come on, then! You want a fight? I'll give you a fight!
Oooh, such heroic caterwauling, Promise. I'm shaking.
Guard our hostage well. We wouldn't want to tempt any thoughts of rescue.
By the by, house cat. They've been instructed to put down Papa dearest when you lose. Hopefully he's settled his affairs.
Don't worry. I'm not losing to the likes of him.
Well, what are you waiting for, you blessed bastards!? It's two against one! Don't tell me you're scared!
I know I didn't hear you right...
You dare call us cowards!?
You think this weakling could hurt me!?
Foreign scum! Who are you to mock me!?
I'll kill you─kill you─kill you all!
Don't look away, salt! I want you to watch as I tear your beloved Promise to shreds!
Hey, eyes on me. The house cat, remember?
I'll say it again: I'm not losing to the likes of you!
I'm going to become Dawnservant─and I will protect my people!
End of cutscene.

Cutscene 2

Start of voiced cutscene.
I reclaim what you stole.
N-No... How can this be...?
How could that puny house cat beat all of us...?
You've caused nothing but trouble with your dirty tricks.
Threatening the Hanuhanu, releasing Valigarmanda─harassing me is one thing, but you've endangered too many innocents!
No more, Bakool Ja Ja! I will not stand for it! If you even think of tormenting my people again, you will answer to me!
[NOISE OF IRRITATION]
And he goes and forgets he had the way blocked...
What? That was his doing?
The only part left in the saga is the Lay of the Brotherhood─in Mamook.
The plan was to force you here so we could take the rest of your keystones.
So that's what he was up to... But, uh, should you be telling us this?
[SIGH]
What does it matter? You've beaten us. It's over.
We'll release the hostage.
I'm sorry. I was careless.
Are you all right?
So what Bakool Ja Ja said... About you and me...
I─ Ah, but to single-handedly defeat Bakool Ja Ja! You truly are the Dawnservant's daughter.
It has been my honor to bear witness to your journey, Promise.
Promise... Yes, that's what I am.
I'm Gulool Ja Ja's daughter, and Tuliyollal's next Dawnservant!
Come on. Let's rejoin the others.
End of cutscene.

Cutscene 3

Start of voiced cutscene.
Earlier, in the Second Promise's camp...
The passage to Mamook remains blocked. For now, all we can do is try to rest and recover.
...Perhaps with a meal, as my sister would no doubt suggest. Shall we borrow the kitchens and prepare some xibruq pibil?
[FOND CHUCKLE]
So thou hast taken a liking to the dish.
As we learn to appreciate the unfamiliar, 'tis only natural that we develop new affinities. There is no shame in this.
But there is in ignorance. I had barely considered what the people of Tuliyollal hold dear. What hopes they harbor for the future.
Our nation is built upon the bonds that Father forged during his journey across Tural.
But so single-minded have I been in my advocacy of foreign innovations...that I failed to understand my own people.
Could someone who struggles to connect with the populace ever make a worthy Dawnservant?
To understand and connect with people is by no means easy.
But there is something you can do to pave the way.
Let them see you for who you really are. What makes you laugh and cry and rage. That sort of honesty is the first step towards mutual understanding─and connection.
“Understanding begets fellowship.” As my father said...
And yet, what you suggest does not come naturally to me...
I, too, have found it difficult to speak from the heart. In thy struggles, I see mine own─painful in their familiarity.
Yet frightening though it may feel, if we are to move forward, we must indeed take that first step. Dispense with pretense and simply be.
Do you remember when you first approached us, and we asked you why you wanted to become Dawnservant?
You said you wished to use the knowledge you acquired in Sharlayan for your country─and in doing so repay your father for the opportunities he afforded you.
What won me over was not your ambition, but your motivation.
So let your people know this. And in time, they'll come to support you as we do.
You can't hide behind that stoicism forever.
Very well, then. I will make a greater effort to be myself...by not being my usual self so much.
End of cutscene.
