Introduction

Evercold (considered version 8.0 of the game) is the sixth expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, after Dawntrail. It will be released on January 2027.

Story

Features

  • New jobs: ??? (Tank) and ??? (Physical Ranged DPS)
    • First job will be revealed in the European Fan Festival
  • Level cap increase to 110

Job Action System

  • New job action system: Reborn Mode and Evolved Mode for all pre-Evercold jobs, with unique actions in each mode
    • Reborn Mode: Similar to how jobs play in Dawntrail; will continue to receive updates
    • Evolved Mode: A new system that emphasizes job individuality
      • Different job rotations
      • Fewer button inputs
      • Basic combos have been consolidated into one button
      • Similar actions (e.g. similar effects or AoE versions) have been merged.
      • Shortened recast times and increased potencies to make up for removed actions.
      • Actions may have different effects based on the target or the distance from the target(e.g. paladin will use Holy Spirit when targeting an enemy but Clemency when targeting an ally. Shield Bash is used at melee range and become Shield Lob from ranged.).
      • Role action consolidation and adjustments.
        • For example, Provoke and Shirk are now consolidated into one action (Scales of Enmity) that becomes Provoke whe used on an enemy and Shirk when used on an ally. Scales of Enmity also has 2 charges.
        • Low Blow will be removed and its stun effect added to Interject.
      • Paladin receives counterattacks that become available after mitigating attacks with certain actions.
    • Players may freely toggle between the two modes outside of battle.
    • Job levels and gear are shared per mode.
    • Evolved Mode available on unlock of the job.
    • All content can be cleared with either mode, although Evolved Mode is advertised to be slightly stronger.
    • All jobs released from Evercold onwards will only have Evolved Mode.
    • Not available for Limited Jobs
  • Overaching battle system changes
    • Removing or reworking most party synergy (i.e. raid buff) actions that constrained job rotations to a "2 minute meta." Applies to both Reborn and Evolved modes.
    • Adjusting action acquisition levels, with the goal of having the core rotation by level 50, to improve lower level job gameplay. After level 50, actions will primarily be enhanced with extra effects or derivative actions on the same button. Applies to Evolved mode.
    • Defining main and off tank roles in Evolved mode.
      • Main tank: specialized in taking direct damage and countering enemy attacks. Assigned to paladin and the tank added in patch 8.0
      • Off tank: specialized at reducing damage dealt to allies and reducing enemy damage. Assigned to warrior, dark knight, and gunbreaker.
      • Similar to the pure/barrier healer split, the main/off tank split is mostly relevant in high-end content such as savage and ultimate raids, and is less important in normal-difficulty content.
