Aetherial Reduction is an action unlocked by questing at level 56. It is available for any class or job. Aetherial Reduction allows the player to break down specific Collectables into Crystals, Clusters and rare materials called Aethersand or Glioaethers. The higher the collectability, the higher chance for it to yield an aether. The specific kind of aether produced is fixed for a given collectable. As of Patch 5.4, hitting the max collectability of 1000 guarantees some amount of aether, with a potential for a bonus quantity. There are types of aether exclusive to Miner, Botanist, and Fisher, the first examples being 
Landborne, 
Leafborne, and 
Seaborne. Aethersand alongside Glioaethers are only used in endgame crafts from the Master Recipe Tomes.
The aforementioned Glioaethers are reduced from Prime Collectables. These are used in recipes from 
Island Sanctuary.
Furthermore, two exclusive materials are used only for the purpose of the third stage augmentation in Endwalker's Relics, Splendorous Tools. These are 
Customized Miner's Component and 
Customized Botanist's Component.
Beginning with Stormblood items, the different kinds of Aethersand can also be purchased from the Scrip Exchange with Gatherers' Scrip. Materials that come from Prime Collectables are not available to be purchased. This also includes the only non prime Glioaether 
Pure Aqueous.
Unlock
Complete the level 56 quest No Longer a Collectable by speaking to Lydirlona in Mor Dhona (X:22.3, Y:6.8). Player must be a level 56 or higher Disciple of Land.
