Heritage Found (X:6, Y:34) -- Level 98

Strategy

Goldgrouper (for Fisher's Intuition)

  • Goldgrouper does not have any time or weather requirements. It prefers Red Maggots as bait, although Versatile Lure can be used if neceessary.
  • Goldgrouper does require use of Ambitious Lure until the message "You spot a glinting golden flash in the water!" appears. (Without this message, the fish is unavailable.)
  • Using Surface Slap on Yyasulani Bowfin is recommended. (The strong-bite fish at this spot during prep are Goldgrouper, Yyasulani Bowfin, and Great Ball of Lightning. The other strong-bite fish at this location is Heirloom Goldgrouper, which is not available prep, and also cannot be caught with Red Maggots.)
  • Since Goldgrouper is a collectable fish, it can be caught with Collector's Glove () active before Great Ball of Lightning's window starts and held (not clicking on the Collectable pop-up window). Intuition will not start until this message window is closed.
This method can also be used if a Goldgrouper is caught when the Fisher's Intuition buff is close to expiring.
  • Be careful if starting prepartion more than 44 minutes before the Great Ball of Lightning's window starts. After fishing in the same spot for more than 50 minutes, the fish will become "wary" forcing the fisher to move. The Fisher's Intuition buff does not disappear when the fisher moves, but Surface Slap will.
  • Catch a Goldgrouper before the window starts while wearing Collector's Glove () as described above. Do not click on the dialogue box until just before the window starts at 02:00 Eorzean time.
  • Using Surface Slap on Yyasulani Bowfin is a consideration. When this is slapped, the only remaining strong-jawed fish for Ambitious Lure are the Goldgrouper (when the message appears) and Great Ball of Lightning.
  • Catching another Goldgrouper while the Fisher's Intuition buff is active may reset the Intuition timer. When the timer is nearly finished, holding the Goldgrouper with the Collectable dialogue box open until intiution expires will guarantee a new intuition buff.
