Fisher's Intuition

Fisher's Intuition is a beneficial status effect: "Heightened senses are improving chances of discovering rare fish only obtainable under special conditions."

The conditions to trigger Fisher's Intuition are different for every fish requiring it, as is the duration of the buff. They will be detailed in the fish's conditions. Fish requiring Fisher's Intuition are completely uncatchable without it.

Overview

Progress to trigger Intuition

Progress toward intuition is granted at the instant that the caught fish enter the player's inventory.

• In the case of collectables, this occurs after answering "yes" or "no" to the collectables pop-up window.

Progress toward an intuition buff is retained if the player Quits the fishing stance, moves, and then resumes fishing in the same fishing hole. Progress persists even if the player changes job, logs out, gathers using Botanist or Miner, engages in crafting or combat, etc.

However, progress will be lost if any of the following occurs:

• The character leaves the zone through any means.
• The character enters an instanced duty (as this counts as leaving the zone).
• The character manually changes the current zone instance at an aetheryte.
  • However, being moved to a different instance automatically (for example: as a result of logging in/out) will not reset progress.
• The character casts into a different fishing hole, using their fishing rod.
  • However, spearfishing will not void progress.

Start of Intuition

When intuition begins, a heartbeat sound will play and a pulse visual effect will appear on the screen, alongside a unique message for the intuition fish arriving.

During Intuition

During an Intuition buff, as long as the target fish's other requirements are met (time of day, previous weather, and current weather), then the target fish is temporarily added to the pool of possible fish in the fishing hole.

The intuition buff is maintained even if the player Quits the fishing stance, and then enters it again.

While an Intuition buff is active, the player cannot make progress toward activating Intuition again.

Refreshing Intuition

If the player has the level 50 trait Fisher's Instinct, and an intuition buff is currently running, then catching one of the required fish again has a chance to refresh the intuition buff back to its full duration.

End of Intuition

If the intuition fish is caught, the buff will instantly end, a chime sound will play, and a success message unique to the fish will display on the screen.

If intuition ends by timing out without the fish being caught, a unique departure message for the fish will display instead.

Last cast chime

If the intuition buff runs out during a cast, but the target fish is about to bite for that cast (since the fish is already determined at the start of a cast), then the chime will play, but the departure message will not display. This scenario can be seen in the video below.

Notes:

• The chime sound might not always play, or may play late, if the game is otherwise playing too many sounds at once (for example, playing the sounds of nearby fishers). However, the departure message will always not display if the bite is guaranteed, regardless of whether the chime plays. Therefore, the absence of the departure message is a more-reliable indicator of the guaranteed bite.
• Performing any action that rerolls the fish on the hook (such as Modest Lure or Ambitious Lure) will forfeit the guaranteed bite.
• While this mechanic indicates that the target fish is guaranteed to bite, it makes no guarantee about whether the player will successfully hook that fish.

Spearfishing

Spearfishing has two distinct mechanics that function similar to Fisher's Intuition.

Swimming Shadows

Catching a certain amount of specific kinds of fish at "Teeming Waters" nodes will spawn a "Swimming Shadows" node, which contains exclusive fish.

Progress towards a Swimming Shadows node is kept even if the player gathers at Teeming Waters nodes from a different location.

• It is also possible to make progress toward multiple different Swimming Shadows nodes simultaneously.
• However, progress is lost upon leaving the zone.

Once spawned, a Swimming Shadows node will persist until the player interacts with it or leaves the zone.

Spearfisher's Intuition

When gathering at a Swimming Shadows node, catching a certain amount of specific kinds of fish will trigger a "Spearfisher's Intuition" buff.

• Progress is only tracked for the current node, and progress is lost if the node's wariness maxes out.
• Once intuition activates, the target fish is added to the pool of fish that can appear in the node.
• Intuition lasts for a timed duration, or until wariness maxes out - whichever happens first.
• If the target fish is still on the screen when the intuition buff falls off, it can still be caught.
