Reputation, also known as societal relations (known as "tribal relations" prior to patch 7.0), are points that players can earn by helping out the individual friendly allied societies and building trust with them. Players receive reputation points through completion of daily allied society quests, earning EXP, gil, tomestones, and other rewards in the process. Building enough reputation with an allied society will increase the player's overall rank with that society, unlocking new quests and items for purchase.

Currently, there are eighteen different allied societies the player may develop relations with:

Earning Reputation

An example of a daily quest awarding reputation points to the player. Here, completing the quest rewards 20 Sahagin Relations.

Reputation points can be earned through the completion of daily quests given by members of the allied societies. Players are given 12 quest allowances per day (viewable in the Timers menu), and may use them to accept any daily quests of their choosing. The amount of points earned per quest varies, based on society and the player's reputation rank.

Depending on the allied society, players are limited on how many quests they may accept from them per day. For A Realm Reborn societies, each increase in rank unlocks a new quest-giver who will offer three of their own daily quests per day. Players may therefore accept three quests at Neutral rank, six quests at Recognized rank, and so on. For Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker societies, however, the quest-giver always remains the same and continues to offer only three quests per day. As such, only three quests may be accepted on any given day from each society, regardless of rank.

The exception to this is on the day the player achieves a new rank with the allied society. Upon reaching the reputation maximum for the current rank, a new quest becomes available to unlock the next rank (and progress that society's story). Completing that quest and unlocking the next rank makes an additional 3 daily quests available for that society, for that day only. After the next daily reset, the society returns to only offering 3 quests per day. Using these 3 additional bonus daily quests can shorten the total time required to reach maximum reputation rank by 3-5 days, depending on the society, though it comes at the cost of using 3 additional from the global 12-per-day limit on those days. Notably, these 3 additional daily quests are only available when the society's available set of daily quests expands. With the exception of the Moogle and Namazu societies, there are no additional daily quests upon reaching the Sworn rank, and thus there will not be an additional 3 daily quests available that day when reaching Sworn with other societies.

Reputation progress between ranks can be checked at any time by accessing the "Reputation" tab in the Character menu.

Moving to the next rank

After the player has filled the required reputation in the current rank, a new quest will appear from the societal leader. Completing this quest will move the player to the next rank where the reputation may be increased again. Once reputation is full for a given rank, no additional reputation can be earned until the player moves to the next rank. If the reputation to the next rank is not an even multiple of the reputation gain per daily quest, some of the reputation gain from the last daily quest turned in to reach that rank's cap is unavoidably lost.

Ranks

Reputation is divided into nine different ranks. After completing the requisite quests and unlocking access to an allied society, players will start their relationship either at Neutral (Rank 1) or Friendly (Rank 3) depending on the society.

Not every allied society will use every rank: the Amalj'aa, Kobold, Sahagin, and Sylph societies, for example, "max out" at the reputation rank of Trusted, meaning they cannot achieve any higher rank with reputation points alone. Completion of the appropriate Intersocietal quests, however, will advance their rank to Allied.

Note that the rank of Allied exists both at Rank 8 and Rank 9. This is because the A Realm Reborn societies do not use the rank of Bloodsworn and classify Allied as the eighth rank.

This time can be shortened by 1 day per intervening rank, excluding Sworn (ex. 3 days reduction for a society going from Friendly to Bloodsworn), if the player uses an additional 3 daily quest allowances on the days that a new reputation rank is reached (and completes the newly-unlocked story quest that day to unlock an additional 3 daily quests at the new rank level).
