G-Warrior

G-Warrior is an Allagan warmachina restored and refitted by Garlond Ironworks. It was built as a prototype for the Ultima Weapon and was known as the Ultima Warrior before the Ironworks rebuilt it. Cid Garlond unveiled it in patch 5.3 as the Ironworks' answer to the VIIth Legion's Weapon project, and the Warrior of Light piloted it against the Sapphire Weapon at Terncliff Bay.

History

Recovery and restoration

Garlond Ironworks came across the warmachina in Azys Lla in the course of their investigations there, and decided it would be a shame to let it go to waste. Engineers restored the frame to working order and refitted it, and Cid presented the result as the Ironworks' adaptation of the Ultima Warrior. Gaius van Baelsar, who had previously taken the helm of the Ultima Weapon, recognized the Allagan design on sight and provided support remotely during the machina's first deployment. Where the Ultima Weapon drew on the powers of the primals it absorbed, the rebuilt machina fights as a piloted mech, armed with an aethersaber and Ironworks weaponry.

The Sorrow of Werlyt

After Valdeaulin traced the Ruby Weapon back to an imperial base in Werlyt, Cid proposed that the G-Warrior be carried to Terncliff by the Enterprise to destroy the Weapon sighted there. The Warrior of Light was the only candidate considered as pilot, and trained in a simulator before the sortie. In the battle that followed, the G-Warrior defeated the Sapphire Weapon in the bay below Terncliff and left it inoperable but largely intact, and the town was liberated.

The machina took heavy damage in that battle. During Blood of Emerald, Cid reported that repairs were still under way and that replacement parts for Allagan machinery were hard to find, so the G-Warrior played no part in the operation against the Emerald Weapon. Cid provided an Ironworks submersible instead.

G-Savior

For the pursuit of the Diamond Weapon in patch 5.5, Avilina and the Ironworks rebuilt the G-Warrior with a range of armaments designed to capture a Weapon rather than destroy it. The changes were profound enough that Cid renamed the craft the G-Savior. Unlike the G-Warrior, the G-Savior requires two operators: Gaius took the helm as main pilot, while the Warrior of Light took charge of the offensive and defensive systems. In patch 6.4, the G-Savior Mark II was stolen by Procopius, a former pilus of the VIIth Legion who had altered his face to pose as Valens van Varro. Gaius and the Warrior of Light took the craft up again to bring the Mark II down, using the Anti-G missiles supplied by Nero tol Scaeva. The on-screen instructions for this sequence name the craft the G-Warrior, while the quest journal names it the G-Savior.

Gameplay

Main article: Sleep Now in Sapphire

The player controls the G-Warrior in the solo duties of Sleep Now in Sapphire: three training instances against a Guidance System in Terncliff Bay, followed by a duel with the Sapphire Weapon. The G-Warrior has 185,000 HP and 10,000 EP on Normal difficulty, EP serving in place of MP. Before the patch 6.0 stat squish it had 600,000 HP.

The sequence in Aggressive Expansion is not a battle. It requires timed inputs that match the on-screen prompts.

Trivia

• The G-Warrior Card description states that rumors of the “G” standing for “gun” remain unverified, especially considering that its weapon of choice is an aethersaber.
• The G-Warrior and the wider Sorrow of Werlyt storyline pay homage to the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. The name of the rebuilt G-Savior (Japanese: Gセイヴァー) matches G-Saviour, a Gundam film released in 1999.
• The names of the two models follow Bandai's Gundam model kit grades: "MG" for Master Grade, and "MGSD" for Master Grade Super Deformed. In game, the names are said to stand for "Master Garlond" and "Master Garlond Superior Design".
• The Adamant Weapon minion is described as a scale prototype built for counter G-Warrior testing, and carries no armaments.
