Soulkin are inorganic beings that have been granted temporary life via outside magicks or a magicked medium. This ensorcellment allows for the pooling of aether within the creature—aether which enables ambulation, simple cognitive reasoning, and in extreme cases, limited linguistic capacity. Modern naturalists argue that many of the creatures historically classified as soulkin only earned that classification as the result of outdated folklore and long-standing superstition.

Soulkin are inorganic beings that have been granted temporary life via outside magicks or a magicked medium. This ensorcellment allows for the pooling of aether within the creature—aether which enables ambulation, simple cognitive reasoning, and in extreme cases, limited linguistic capacity. Recent findings may also suggest the birth of a soulkin may, on rare occasion, occur naturally—the life-giving aether intended for one creature mistakenly entrusted to an inanimate object by the fickle mistress that is nature.

The term "soulkin" refers to those whose corporeal forms are animated solely by aether rather than biological or mechanical processes. Based upon the many instances of soulkin noted in the Scions' reports, it is evident that such entities were also developed in the First to serve as biddable familiars.

Soulkin refers to beings formed of inorganic matter and given life via Magic. While still devoid of a true soul, the beings are able to walk and think, or be given orders. The first and most common use of this form of magic was by the mages of Amdapor, who developed White Magic in response to the looming threat of the people of Mhach and their Black Magic. By channeling Aether with the intent to heal and protect, the mages of Amdapor were able to use soulkin to help handle the Voidsent threat. In more modern times, Soulkin are rarely used, but can still be found in ruins and ancient cities, guarding areas that were once of great importance.
