Stellar Missions Menu

Stellar Missions are the primary form of content in Cosmic Exploration. These are short requests, similar in format to crafting and gathering-oriented levequests. Unlike levequests, stellar missions do not have an allowance system, so they can be chained indefinitely.

As of patch 7.31, there are a total of 1,039 missions. There are 544 total missions in the first zone, Sinus Ardorum: 48 for each of the 11 crafter/gatherer classes, and 16 missions that require two classes. There are 495 missions in the second zone, Phaenna: 45 missions per class. Players may accept stellar missions and view their completed missions via the exotablet. Some missions require certain progress in server-wide zone development before they are available.

Rewards

Completion of stellar missions increases overall zone development progress and unlocks more advanced stellar missions. Rewards include Experience experience (if less than level 100), Cosmocredit cosmocredits, zone-specific currency such as Lunar Credit lunar credits, Cosmic Tool research data, cosmic class points for achievements, and contribution points during ranking periods in alternating days. Players cannot obtain higher qualities of Cosmic Tool research data until they have made sufficient progress with the tool for a given class.

Completion of a certain total number of missions is also a prerequisite for certain sidequest chains (note that these quests also have other prerequisites that are listed in the individual quest pages):

Missions are scored by three ranks: bronze, silver, and gold. Bronze is the minimum needed to complete the mission, but obtaining a higher score will result in greater returns other than experience:

  • Silver: 4 times the base rewards
  • Gold: 5 times the base rewards

Critical missions do not have score tiers: the only rank is gold, which gives their base rewards. Some advanced EX+ missions also do not allow for bronze or silver rankings: the only outcomes are failure or gold, the latter of which gives 5x the rewards listed in the mission selection UI.

Players can monitor their mission completion by viewing the mission log from the exotablet: a green checkmark indicates that the player has previously completed the mission with a bronze or silver rating, while a medal indicates a previous gold rating. Completing all missions in a zone with a gold rating will award an achievement and title:

Zone Achievement Title
Sinus Ardorum   One Giant Hop Ready for Liftoff
Phaenna   First Light Stellar Astronomer

Quest Sync

Stellar missions are quest synced, ensuring that rewards and difficulty level are distributed appropriately given a player's current level.

  • Quest syncing allows stellar missions to be a viable source of leveling from 10 to 100.
  • Upon reaching certain level thresholds, the item level recommendation for the quests will increase, and players may need to obtain stronger gear to compensate. The NPC Godgyth sells normal quality gear suitable for leveling, but players can also farm purple scrips outside of Cosmic Exploration to buy gear at any Scrip Exchange from level 58 onwards. This gear has higher stats than corresponding normal quality vendor gear, and thus will last longer (~10 levels above the gear level) and make leveling missions easier.

The following table shows the recommended item level for missions based on the player's current class level:

The item level recommendation for advanced class A missions at level 100 is misleading; players are unlikely to make much progress in EX and EX+ missions if they have the minimum item level.

Mission classes and types

Classes

Each mission is given a class in order of increasing difficulty: D, C, B, or A. Class A missions are further divided into three sub-classes: regular, EX, and EX+. Each mission class has a minimum unlock level, although mission difficulty is always synced to the player's current level. Mission classes for a given crafter or gatherer have the following unlock requirements:

  • Class D: Level 10
  • Class C: Level 50 and complete 3 unique class D missions
  • Class B: Level 90 and complete 4 unique class C missions
  • Class A: Level 100 and complete 5 unique class B missions, 3 with a gold star rank

These unlock requirements are shared between zones. For example, players who have unlocked class A carpenter missions in Sinus Ardorum will have them unlocked in all other zones.

EX and EX+ missions are substantially more difficult than lower ranked missions and are intended as endgame content. To obtain maximal rewards from most of these missions, players will need to equip the latest endgame gear "penta" melded with materia. Some of these crafting-related missions require Expert Recipe Expert Crafting while others require two specific classes: one gatherer to procure items and one crafter to craft products using those items.

Basic Missions

Basic missions compose the vast majority of stellar missions. The player's mission selection menu will offer a random draw of basic missions at a time. The draw of missions can be "rerolled" by initiating any mission then abandoning it.

Alongside basic missions exist provisional missions and critical missions. Completing the latter two will yield greater rewards than basic missions.

Provisional Missions

Provisional missions have restrictions on their availability compared to basic missions. All provisional missions are class A and include the most challenging missions in cosmic exploration.

  • Sequential Missions: These missions will become available after completing certain stellar missions with a gold star rank. Sequential missions are created from a variety of missions, and completing them with the highest score possible will cause more to appear. Each mission chain contains 2 or 3 missions. Players will be notified in the game when sequential missions become available.
    • Sequential missions are not permanently unlocked from completing the prerequisite mission with a gold rank. The prerequisite needs to be completed each time the player attempts a sequential mission. If the player fails or abandons a sequential mission, they will need to restart from the beginning of the mission chain.
    • If players complete the first mission in a sequential mission chain with a gold rank and find that they do not unlock the next mission, this indicates that the next mission also requires a certain stage in server-wide zone development to be unlocked.
  • Weather-restricted Missions/Time-restricted Missions: These missions are available during certain times or weather conditions. Time and weather are shared between all servers (excluding special weathers in Red Alert windows; see next section).
    • Weather-restricted missions that require two classes have an additional prerequisite of completing certain sequential missions for each individual class with a gold rank. These are one-time unlocks, unlike with sequential missions.
  • There are no skywatchers in cosmic exploration zones, but zone weather and the corresponding missions that are available can be tracked using this site.
  • Players can make macros to remind them of upcoming time-restricted mission windows. For example, this macro can be used for time-restricted class A missions in Sinus Ardorum:
/alarm "CRP + ALC" et rp 0000 0 se00
/alarm "MIN" et rp 0200 0 se00
/alarm "BSM + CUL" et rp 0400 0 se00
/alarm "FSH" et rp 0600 0 se00
/alarm "ARM" et rp 0800 0 se00
/alarm "BTN" et rp 1000 0 se00
/alarm "GSM" et rp 1200 0 se00
/alarm "LTW" et rp 1600 0 se00
/alarm "WVR" et rp 2000 0 se00

Critical Missions

Main article: Red Alert
Red Alert UI

Critical missions become available during red alerts, which are indicated by special weather conditions. Red alerts occur simultaneously in all instances of the same cosmic exploration zone on the same world, but are specific per world and cosmic exploration zone. They are announced five minutes before the event begins, and have a duration of twenty minutes. The specific type of red alert weather cannot be easily be predicted but red alerts spawn approximately every 4.5 real-life hours with some variation.

When a red alert is issued, two gauges will appear at the top of the screen to symbolize progress made for the classes in current demand. Two regions will be marked on the map, each of which contains mission locations for separate classes.

Players may complete critical missions for the designated classes as many times as they choose, earning greater rewards than most normal missions and have the main advantage of being very fast and easy to complete. Each time a critical mission is completed, the respective alert gauge will increase. By cooperating with other players, both gauges may be filled within the time limit, resolving the red alert and granting bonus rewards for all who contributed.

If both gauges are not filled within the allotted time, fewer bonus rewards will be distributed to contributors.

Mission in Progress widget

After initiating a stellar mission, the following features can be accessed from the Mission in Progress widget:

Mission in Progress widget
  • Cosmopouch: The cosmopouch is an exclusive inventory reserved for supplies, crafted items, and gathered materials used in cosmic exploration. These items are mission-specific and are lost upon the end of the mission. They also do not have flavor text.
  • Cosmic Crafting Log: The cosmic crafting log enables Disciples of the Hand to craft items for stellar missions. Only recipe(s) relevant to the current mission are viewable.
  • Stellar Reduction: Stellar Reduction enables Disciples of the Land to aetherially reduce items for stellar missions.

The widget also lists the requirements for a silver or gold rank for the mission.

Upon fulfilling the minimum mission requirements, players can press "Report" to complete the mission.

Supplies

All missions will provide players with limited quantities of supplies:   Cosmic Containers for crafting-related missions and various baits for fishing-related missions. Players do not need to supply any outside items for the mission itself (excluding gear and consumables such as food, potions, and cordials). All cosmic exploration crafting recipes do not require crystals. Crafting recipes will only use Cosmic Containers, intermediate crafts made from Cosmic Containers during the mission, or gathered items during the mission as ingredients.

Collectables and Reduction

Certain missions require collectables and/or   Aetherial Reduction to be unlocked. These requirements will be indicated in the mission selection interface. If the player has not unlocked these, they must complete the following quests to commence the mission:

Stellar Actions

Certain missions enable the use of unique duty actions that are helpful, if not required, to complete the mission.

Action Classes Description Number of Uses
Material Miracle Disciples of the Hand Guarantees a Good, Sturdy, Centered, Pliant, Primed, or Malleable material condition each step.
Duration: 45s
1-3 (varies by mission)
Collector's Stellar Standard Miner
Botanist
Guarantees that the next brazen action (  Brazen Prospector,   Brazen Woodsman) will increase collectability with maximum effectiveness, and increases the chance that the next meticulous action will not affect integrity by 40%. 2
Stellar Hookset Fisher Negates the Inefficient Hooking status and increases rating for caught fish. Unlimited, but 60s cooldown
