— In-game description

Scorch (PvP) is an action unlocked at level 30. It is available for Red Mage.

Gameplay

  • Red Mage's enchanted melee combo in PvP is unremarkable due to its low potencies (even in bursts), accompanied with relatively high risk when engaging multiple opponents. It should thus be used as needed for sustained damage after bursts, to sustain against one or two opponents, or to bypass Guard. Bypassing Guard is its most conventional use. Scorch should still ideally be ready for execution in preparation for bursts due to its high potency, however.
  • If Scorch is available, its potency should be buffed with Displacement due to it being red mage's action with the greatest amount of total potency, outside of Southern Cross. It however, takes approximately 1.7 seconds for the initial hit of Scorch to deal damage. Accounting for this action dealing more damage over-time, it will take 7.7 seconds for this action to deal its full amount of damage. Because of this, it may be more preferable to execute Prefulgence instead of this action if dealing damage quicker in bursts is preferable, while also healing the red mage themselves and nearby party members.
    • Due to the long delay before damage is snapshotted, red mages may consider timing the execution of this action for when opponents exit Guard. Furthermore, similar to monk's Fire's Reply, any personal status effects, including Displacement, will only be consumed when the action deals damage, and not immediately after execution.
