Journal
- Zero's cool expression cannot hide the fire in her eyes.
- Owing to Chai-Nuzz's support, you are assured that the Eulmorans will not protest your plan to gather Light at the Crystarium. With no further business to attend to in the city, you set your sights on the Rak'tika Greatwood, where you will meet with Runar in Slitherbough.
- Runar declares that while the Night's Blessed hold Darkness in the highest, their beliefs would not move them to object to your plan. Yet while there is no need to persuade the people of Slitherbough, the Ronso wishes to welcome your party properly, and asks that you recite the customary words spoken by friends of the Night's Blessed. With the chat mode in Say, say “allin tuta” to offer Runar a traditional greeting.
- You speak the greeting with your characteristic finesse, prompting Runar to bid you welcome to Slitherbough. For Zero's benefit, he also explains the significance of the greeting in a world engulfed in Light, before directing you to seek out Davith to be cleansed of Light's impurities.
- You arrive just as Zero has finished undertaking the ritual, which involves washing with water blessed by priests. When Zero questions why they have retained the custom even though night has returned, Davith states that it still serves as a prayer for the safety of friends and visitors. Satisfied, Zero makes her way back to Runar, and you and Ryne follow.
- Though she is unsure how or why, Zero confesses that taking part in the traditions of the Night's Blessed have left her feeling more confident in your purpose. Nevertheless, even should you triumph over Golbez and Zeromus, the fate of the void would remain unchanged...or would it? Before you can ponder the question, you are contacted by Lyna, who informs you that the preparations at the Crystarium are complete and bids you make your way to Nabaath Areng. You are to rendezvous with Cassard at Twine, as the merchant can guide you to the site of the Flood as well as ideal locations for the placement of aether transmitters.
- Together with Ryne and Zero, you place transmitters in Amh Araeng at the site of the Flood. As the devices whir to life and begin extracting energy from the nearby crystal, Zero finds herself transfixed by the Light─and abruptly extends her hand in an attempt to draw the Light into herself. The strain of it causes her to faint, but with Ryne's assistance, she succeeds in harnessing the primordial energy. With newfound hope for the Thirteenth, the three of you return to the Crystarium.
- The time is come for you to return to the Source. To that end, Zero leaves to have Beq Lugg transfer her back into the spirit vessel. You can but hope that the brands keeping Golbez and Zeromus at bay have held in your absence...
Dialogue
Optional Dialogue
Ryne: When I tended to the people after Vauthry fled, I wasn't sure how much of a difference it would make. It's a relief to see so many that I treated are alive and well.
Chai-Nuzz: My thanks again for your consideration, [Forename]. The rest, you may leave to us.
Wrenden: We appreciate the Crystarium's concern for the welfare of our people. May we continue to strengthen the ties between our two cities.
Dulia-Chai: Brief though it was, it was wonderful to see you. Do visit again soon─hopefully when the fate of a world isn't weighing on your mind.
Accepting the quest
Zero: If we have no further business here, let's move on. Where to next? Ryne: Slitherbough, the home of the Night's Blessed in the Rak'tika Greatwood. We'll explain the situation to their leader, Runar.
Optional Dialogue
Zero: Little wonder those who revere Darkness would gather here. Yet dark as this wood may seem, it is a blazing torch next to the void.
Ryne: I've not visited here in some time, but it's much as I remember. Which is good.
Speak with Runar in Slitherborough. (Cutscene)
Runar: [Forename]! You're a sight for sore eyes, my friend. Will you be staying long in Slitherbough? Runar: Though having said that, I suspect this isn't just a social call... What will you say? > A great plan is in motion, and the Night's Blessed deserve to know... Runar: Hmm, when you put it that way... Very well. On behalf of my people, I would hear what you have to say. > We need to speak with you as leader of the Night's Blessed. It's important. Runar: Ah, so it is more of a formal visit. That's fine. Why don't we get right to it, then? Runar: What? Your world─Master Matoya's world─is in grave danger!? Zero: Master Matoya...? Ryne: (Y'shtola. She took another name in accordance with custom when she lived among the Night's Blessed. They believe Light taints everything that it touches─even their true names. Out of respect, don't speak hers here.) Runar: You are Zero, yes? The one come from a world consumed by Darkness. I struggle to conceive of such a place... Zero: A pitch-black pall shrouds the sky, which neither the light of the sun nor the stars can pierce. It is the opposite of what you once knew here in Norvrandt. Zero: That being the case, I'm sure you can relate to our situation. Runar: All too well. You have my deepest sympathies. Runar: And in order to beat back the Darkness in your world, you would harness Light from ours... Runar: 'Tis a simple yet brilliant idea! Only Master Matoya could have conceived of such. Runar: That Norvrandt is still in her thoughts... That we are still... Zero: So...you're not opposed to our plan? Runar: We Night's Blessed may place our faith in the Dark, but we have never sought to force our beliefs upon others. Runar: If your deliverance lies in Light, then by all means avail yourselves of it. Zero: I'm surprised. From what I was told of your people, I was certain you would disapprove of our methods. Runar: Do not mistake our reverence for Darkness as a desire for it to be ascendant. Rather, in Darkness there is a peace that we seek to make our own through prayer and self-reflection. Runar: And while Light may have wrought suffering in our world, anything in excess can be harmful. Even Darkness, as you and yours know all too well. Runar: It is the wielder who is righteous or evil─not the weapon. If you would wield Light for a noble cause, then who are we to deny you? Runar: ...An easy thing for me to say now that night has been restored to our world, perhaps. Nevertheless. Runar: I wish you the best in your fight, Zero. May light shine your way in the darkness. Runar: Now then! To mark this joyous occasion, I must offer you a proper welcome to Slitherbough. Ryne: You might find this interesting, Zero. Zero: If you say so. Runar: Right, let us begin with the customary greeting. Runar: [Forename], I trust you remember how to announce yourself as a friend of the Blessed?
With the chat mode in Say, enter “allin tuta” to offer Runar a traditional greeting.
Optional Dialogue
Zero: This is a watchword, I take it.
Ryne: Our first visit here was nerve-racking but exciting. I'll never forget how the villagers warmed to me when I spoke the words.
Runar: Don't tell me you've forgotten the words. What would Master Matoya think?
With the chat mode in Say, enter "allin tuta" to greet Runar.
Runar: Friends old and new, I bid you welcome to Slitherbough. Zero: Allin tuta... What does it mean? Runar: In the language of Ronka, it is one of several ways one might say “good evening.” This greeting allows us to quickly discern friend from foe. Runar: A simple expression, but in a world bereft of night, the words held deep meaning. Runar: They were a reminder of the world as it was, when the sun and the moon and the stars yet danced across the sky, and we wished one another well as the day gave way to night. Zero: A communal tradition. So the words serve to bind us. Runar: Indeed. We are no longer strangers, you and I. Next, we shall have you cleansed of Light's impurities. Present yourself to Davith in yonder room. He will be glad to assist you.
Optional Dialogue
Zero: No sooner had I greeted this Davith than he poured a pot of water over me. I wasn't expecting a literal cleansing...
Ryne: It's nice to guide a new friend through the same experiences, isn't it?
Runar: I'm reminded of when you first came to us. When Master Matoya was still here... Runar: Ah, but don't let me keep you. Go on and join your friends.
Speak with Davith.
Davith: There you are. Your friend has just been cleansed. Davith: How do you feel? Zero: Wet, but otherwise no different. Davith: Hahaha, I would've been surprised if you'd said otherwise. Even so, it is customary to cleanse ourselves of Light with water blessed by our priests. Zero: But you have Darkness again, do you not? Why continue the custom? This line changes depending on the current ingame time: Davith: Why, for the same reason that it was conceived: to pray for the safety of friends and visitors alike. As we pray for yours this morn/day/eve. Davith: Safe travels, friend, and may blessed shadow keep you. Zero: Right... If that's all, let's return to Runar and see if there's any other customs I must observe. Ryne: Come on, [Forename].
Optional Dialogue
Ryne: The memories of those I've met and the bonds we've forged will always be a part of me. She may find these moments strange now, but one day she'll look back on them fondly...
Runar: How does Zero like our welcoming customs, I wonder.
Davith: Though we call it a ritual, it's not exactly unusual or elaborate. I hope your friend's disappointment is not due to her expectations.
Speak with Zero. (Cutscene)
Zero: I've undertaken the ritual. Zero: And...while I can't explain it, I feel more confident than I did before. Just a touch... Runar: I'm glad to hear it. With the Warrior of Darkness at your side, I've no doubt that you will save your two worlds. Zero: If we can defeat Zeromus, then aye, the Source would be safe. Zero: But nothing would change for my own world. There would just be one less voidsent to struggle over scraps with the rest. Runar: Is that so? Forgive me, I spoke out of turn... Zero: It's fine. I was under no illusion. Zero: I wish it were different, of course... Lyna: [Forename], can you hear me? Have you met with the people of Eulmore and Rak'tika? Lyna: Excellent. Then we may proceed to the next phase of the plan without worry. Lyna: Beq Lugg has informed me that the tower is ready, so make for Nabaath Areng at your leisure. Lyna: I've arranged for you to rendezvous with Cassard en route as well. Lyna: Not only can he take you to the site of the Flood, but he will also know where best to place the transmitters, given his familiarity with the route between the Crystarium and Amh Araeng. Lyna: He will be in Twine on business shortly, so I've asked him to wait for you there. Ryne: It's all coming together. To Twine, then!
Optional Dialogue
Runar: Zero's pessimism notwithstanding, we will pray for her world. Take care, my friend...and tell Master Matoya that she is ever in our hearts.
Davith: I'm pleased to hear that Zero found the cleansing ritual rewarding, if only a little.
Speak with Cassard at Twine. (Cutscene)
Cassard: Your timing couldn't be better, [Forename]. I've just finished up my business here. Cassard: Lyna has told me all. It would be my pleasure to take you to Nabaath Areng. Cassard: ...As soon as the other helpers arrive, that is. They're supposed to be along any moment now. ???: [Forename]! It really is you! Ghen Gen: We understand you are faced with quite a predicament. And when an esteemed customer is in need, the merchants of Mord Souq are eager to provide! Crystarium Guard: The captain bade us assist you, miss. To ensure that Light is delivered to the Crystarium. Crystarium Guard: Members of our guard will place transmitters in Lakeland, and the good people of Mord Souq will do likewise in the Hills of Amber. You need but focus on your own task in Nabaath Areng. Zero: Yet more people clamoring to help you. It'd almost be more surprising if they hadn't shown up. Cassard: If everyone is ready, then let's get to work! ???: Wait! Magnus: You're heading to Nabaath Areng and didn't think to call on us? Thaffe: While most of our Talos are still in a sorry state, we've spared no effort in maintaining the trolley. Jeryk: We've even upgraded it, as a matter of fact! It's faster than ever and can deliver you to Nabaath Areng in no time at all! Magnus: After everything you've done for us, we can't just stand idly by. Thancred would never let us hear the end of it. Ryne: Thank you. Thank you all so much. Zero: I daresay we have ample help. Come, let's go and acquire our Light.
| Voiced cutscene | Zero: So this is the Flood of Light... Zero: I don't remember much of the time when Darkness consumed the Thirteenth. Just the cold and the emptiness... Ryne: Zero? Are you all right? Zero: ...Aye. I'm fine. Zero: You're the one who stopped this? Ryne: Oh, no no. That was the first Oracle of Light, Minfilia. She's since left us, but I inherited her power and legacy. Zero: I see... Zero: Let's get started then, shall we? Ryne: The other transmitters are set. Whenever you're ready. Zero: Such radiant Light... Zero: It's almost too much for one steeped in Darkness like me... (Jullus' Voice:) Whatever may have happened in the past, you're still here, Zero. Alive. What you couldn't do yesterday, you might still do today. Zero: If this power were mine to wield... Zero: I will not succumb... Not to Darkness...nor to Light! Ryne: Zero! Ryne: She's...taken Light into herself! Ryne: Her body struggles to contain it. She needs help. Ryne: Thank goodness... How do you feel? Zero: Better now, I think. Ryne: Then you're very, very lucky. Whatever possessed you to do that? Zero: I had to know if I could command the Light. If I could change my fate. Zero: Once, I would never have dared to dream it. Zero: But your friendship and your trust has helped me to see new possibilities. In myself and everything else. Zero: Perhaps that's why, when I beheld this world once damned yet saved, I saw the potential for mine to be saved as well. Zero: To become a world where Light and Darkness are in harmony, and life flourishes. A world where we're not consumed by insatiable hunger, but filled with hope for what we might create together. Zero: If I had the strength, perhaps I could make such a dream reality. Perhaps I could awaken us from this endless nightmare. Zero: That's what possessed me... Ryne: If that's your heartfelt desire, then you mustn't be afraid to share it. Ryne: There was a time when I lacked the courage. To voice my desires was to burden those I love...or so I convinced myself. Ryne: But then I met those who believed in me. They helped me to believe in myself and find the strength to live. Ryne: And so long as I'm alive, I know that I'll be fine. No matter how dire things seem. No matter where I am. Ryne: To be able to think that brought me peace, and it's a blessing I owe entirely to my friends. Zero: Those who believe in us... Zero: I will remember your words. I know all too well that there's a limit to what we can achieve alone. Ryne: As a friend, I'd like to help you fulfill your dream. Ryne: If you wish to take in more Light, I can keep the power in check and help your body accept it. What will you say? > If anyone can do it, it'd be Ryne. Zero: So it would seem. > It worked well enough for me. Zero: Ah, yes. You mentioned having to absorb Light. That you still live is proof of her ability. > With the power of Light and Dar, you'll be unstoppable! Zero: I certainly hope so. Zero: Right, then. I'm counting on you. Zero: Here I go. Zero: I can feel it. The Light's warmth welling within me. Ryne: Then I believe it worked. Zero: With this power, I will return to the void and fight─for the world that once was, and for those I hold dear! | Voiced cutscene end |
Optional Dialogue
Ryne: Though I've only known Zero for a short while, I feel as though her struggle is my own. For her sake, and her world's, we must succeed!
Speak with Zero.
Zero: We've done our part, and I trust that the others will see the Light to our destination. Zero: It's time we returned to the Source. I shall seek out Beq Lugg and have them return my soul to the spirit vessel.
