Walkthrough
Unbound: Leophyne the Unchivalrous
You will be accompanied by Tentoawa the Wide Eye, Loazenikwe the Shut Eye, and four Zundu Warriors during this battle.
First, defeat the group of Unbound Ravagers and Unbound Raiders.
The Zundu Warriors will then awaken the sleeping Temple Knight Guards using the Sundrop Dance. Protect them from the Unbound minions that spawn. Defeat the ones that Tentoawa is not attacking first. Afterwards, the Zundu and Temple Knights will retreat, and Leophyne will become targetable.
- Bladestorm: Three telegraphed conal AoEs leaving gaps in between.
- Keen Tempest: Spawns four circle AoE telegraphs in the middle of the room, followed by eight telegraphs on the outside.
- Aetheric Burst: Room-wide magical damage.
- Conviction: Spawns two tankbuster towers that inflict magical damage. Go to the one that Tentoawa is not taking.
Afterwards, a cutscene will play.
Leophyne will begin charging a major attack (Cradle of the Sleepless), while Tentoawa will use Passage of Arms. Get behind him to receive the Wide-eyed buff, which will prevent you being inflicted with sleep. However, Tentoawa will be put to sleep with The Narwhal's Lullaby.
Defeat the waves of Unbound minions while the Zundu reawake Tentoawa. Leophyne will tether him, which should be picked up to prevent a physical attack (Daggerflight) from damaging him. When Tentoawa reawakes, Leophyne will become targetable again.
- Aetherial Ray: Spawns two sets of crisscrossing line AoE telegraphs.
- Bladestorm: Spawns the three conal AoE telegraphs along with spread marker AoEs (Aethershot) on the player and their two allies, dealing magical damage.
- Bloody Trinity: Telegraphed, three-hit physical tankbuster.
- Aetherial Ray is used again but combined with a stack marker on Loazenikwe (Aetherial Exposure) dealing magical damage. This is immediately followed with Conviction.
- Poison Daggers: An attack that can be interrupted to prevent damage and status effects.
These mechanics continue until Leophyne is defeated.

Journal
- Tentoawa is eager to set a trap for Leophyne.
- You speak with Tentoawa and Loazenikwe, sensing the former's eagerness to depart to the Churning Mists. Fortunately, he is not forced to wait long, as Handeloup soon appears with good tidings. The joint operation against Leophyne has been approved, and the Vanu Vanu have agreed to join forces with the Temple Knights should the disgraced knight appear. He asks that you depart soon to take part in discussions of strategy, and the two visitors from Tural appear keen to journey heavensward.
- Sonu Vanu greets you heartily, and explains that the visit is to proceed as planned, with the caveat that all present will be on alert for any sign of Leophyne. As if summoned by the mention of her name, a Zundu warrior interrupts your conversation, explaining that an Ishgardian airship has fallen from the sky near where the Zundu were practicing the sundrop dance. Sensing Leophyne's machinations, together you, Tentoawa, and Loazenikwe rush to the outskirts of Ok' Zundu to help the fallen warriors.
- Tentoawa and Loazenikwe stand ready to rush to the rescue of the Ishgardian knights and the Vanu Vanu, certain that Leophyne will make an appearance. Join the Wide Eye and the Shut Eye in defending the injured and bringing a villain to justice!
- While Leophyne does not scruple to employ every dirty trick in her arsenal, you and your companions manage to best her. Leophyne lashes out in a final desperate attempt to use the Cradle of the Sleepless, but you take the brunt of its force, and your eyelids close under the weight of its influence. You awaken to see Tentoawa and the others smiling above you, with the unchivalrous knight nowhere in sight.
- With Leophyne having fallen to an uncertain end, and the treasure recovered, your mission is a success. All that remains before Tentoawa and Loazenikwe return home is to inform Handeloup of your success in quelling this threat to his city and people.
- While it seems news of your deeds has preceded your arrival, Handeloup is nonetheless profuse with his thanks, saying that now Ishgard and Ok' Zundu are closer than ever for having conquered yet another mutual foe. He invites the visitors from Tural back any time before saying his farewells, and Tentoawa encourages you to meet him and Loazenikwe at Xbalyav Ty'e in Tuliyollal before the pair return to their village.
- The Cradle of the Sleepless is back with its rightful owners, but Tentoawa and Loazenikwe declare that they do not intend to use it as they once did. Inspired by the fellowship of the Ishgardians and the Vanu Vanu, Tentoawa wishes to forge a path that leads to friendship between his village and its neighbors. In this way he hopes that his people come to live without relying on the treasure, but he realizes that the path must be navigated with delicacy. He and Loazenikwe seem up to the task, however, and after they say their farewells, they turn towards a brighter future.
Dialogue
Speak to Tentoawa (cutscene)
Tentoawa: Ser Handeloup still hasn't sent word. I guess the others might not be so enthusiastic about our plan...
Loazenikwe: To them, the Cradle of the Sleepless is naturally still something to be feared. No matter how much faith they have in your strength, you'd be at Leophyne's mercy if she put you to sleep.
Tentoawa: Honestly, I don't blame them. Not even I imagined our treasure could be used for such evil. In Leophyne's hands, it's no more than an indiscriminate weapon... Tentoawa: But that...that means when we get it back, we can turn it into something else! Tentoawa: Something no one's ever thought of before. We can find a way to use it without forcing someone to spend their life in slumber!
Loazenikwe: ...Of course I agree with you, Tentoawa, but we have more pressing matters. Namely, a rogue knight to capture and a treasure to recover!
Tentoawa: Heh, right. Sorry, I got ahead of myself.
Handeloup: Apologies for keeping you waiting so long. The Temple Knights have finally reached a decision concerning the delegation to the Sea of Clouds.
Tentoawa: And what have you decided?
Handeloup: I am pleased to say that the Zundu have agreed to join forces with us. Together, we shall drive back Leophyne should she attack. Handeloup: If her shadow darkens even an ilm of their homeland, our peaceful delegation shall turn into a fighting force at a moment's notice! We shall restore the Temple Knights' reputation and recover your artifact in one fell swoop!
Tentoawa: Thank you, Handeloup! We promise to do our part if Leophyne shows herself. She won't get away this time!
Handeloup: We have but to hammer out the finer details. Once we are ready to depart, the first group of knights shall leave by airship. Handeloup: I would ask you both to make your way to Ok' Zundu as soon as possible so you may help plan our strategy.
Loazenikwe: I'm coming too! I can heal your wounds and, if it comes to it, my staff can bruise as well as a club!
Tentoawa: I'll gladly have you with us. I'm done taking on the world alone. Tentoawa: I need you, Loazenikwe. And Forename, too. We're stronger together than we could ever be apart. Tentoawa: The cradle never would've been stolen if I'd realized that from the beginning. Tentoawa: And I want you by my side to ensure I don't forget it. Tentoawa: Well then, we'd better be off. I'm keen to meet this Chief Sonu Vanu!
Speak with Sonu Vanu in Ok' Zundu
Sonu Vanu: Honored netherling, your return to Ok' Zundu is as welcome as the arrival of spring. Sonu knows why you come─wicked hearts seek to bring chaos to our home. Sonu Vanu: And so the Zundu shall rise to its defense if needed. As the sun's rays chase away the shadows of night, the sundrop dance shall keep the tendrils of sleep at bay.
Tentoawa: Chief Sonu Vanu, it's an honor to meet you. I'm Tentoawa, and if this sundrop dance is as invigorating as you say, I'd love to see it for myself!
Sonu Vanu: The Zundu shall dance before Ishgard's warriors upon their arrival. Brave Tentoawa is welcome to join the proceedings.
Loazenikwe: That was your original intent, right? I see... If we're to draw Leophyne out, it makes sense to pretend like nothing is amiss.
Sonu Vanu: Zundu warriors unify their strength through the sundrop dance, and the sight is so fearsome that many choose to flee rather than fight. Netherling warriors may learn much from such an approach─breaking the enemy's spirit avoids needless bloodshed. Sonu Vanu: Yet all dancers must hone their skills before wild animals first, that the sundrop dance does not fail them at the most crucial moment. It is for that reason our dancers await at the outskirts of Ok' Zundu for the netherlings' arrival. Sonu Vanu: When the performance begins, it shall draw the attention of all like a roiling cloud coming over the horizon. Watch carefully for any who would take advantage of that moment. Sonu Vanu: After the dance is finished, netherlings will present the Zundu with─
Zundu Warrior: Chief Sonu! Netherling ship appears in the skies like sudden sunshower, hurtling toward earth! Zundu Warrior: Swiftly it descends, crashing down near Zundu dancers! Ship's markings are Ishgardian! Zundu Warrior: Zundu are unhurt, but wounded netherlings pour from vessel!
What will you say? > The Temple Knights would never harm the Zundu intentionally. > Like a lightning bolt in the night, Leophyne strikes...
Sonu Vanu: Agreed. This has the scent of the enemy. Just as Sonu has no reason to doubt that the sun shall rise on the morrow, he has no reason to mistrust the Temple Knights.
Tentoawa: She saw right through us, and now we're on the back foot!
Sonu Vanu: Great winds can alter even a raging river's course. What matters is to stand strong and move forward, and now, we must offer aid to the netherlings who come as guests.
Tentoawa: Right. Let's go!
Optional Dialogue
Loazenikwe: We're fortunate that Leophyne chose the outskirts of the settlement to enact her horrible plan. Imagine if the ship crashed over Ok' Zundu, or even Ishgard...
Speak with Tentoawa
Tentoawa: If this is the work of the cradle, Leophyne can't be far. Tentoawa: We must tend to the wounded, but I won't let her escape again. This ends today, one way or the other!
Cutscene
Tentoawa: There you are, Leophyne!
Leophyne: You came all this way just to greet me? Oh, I am honored. I only hope my gift was satisfactory. Leophyne: 'Tis a shame you will not see Ishgard crumble. Alas, I can scarcely suffer rats to scurry about my feet, threatening to gnaw away at my carefully laid plans. Leophyne: At least you bear witness to the dying breath of the Temple Knights' flagging honor. We would sooner see that wrecked airship soar again than their reputation return to its former glory. Leophyne: Yet even I did not foresee that the Zundu would be in the ship's path! The Fury favors me, for who now would trust a nation so careless as to put their neighbors at risk?
Loazenikwe: Everyone knows you're behind this! People won't turn on each other so easily!
Leophyne: Oh, I didn't see you there! The Shut Eye, wide awake! Doubly honored I am that you came all this way just to meet your end.
Loazenikwe: Enough! We're taking the cradle back─we won't let your evil continue any longer!
Leophyne: Such bold words. If I recall correctly, your people reaped great benefits from this artifact's powers...all at the cost of someone's waking life. Your life. Leophyne: Pray do not misunderstand me. That was not meant to be a denouncement of your people. On the contrary, they have my utmost respect. Leophyne: We are bound by our very nature. No matter how mighty we become, we are slaves to the whims of sleep. Leophyne: Yet this artifact can sunder those shackles and grant true freedom. It makes its wielder stronger, and their enemies weak! A perfect weapon, if you ask me.
Tentoawa: I can't say whether using the cradle is right or wrong. I only know that a life lived at the cost of another is no life at all. Tentoawa: You're right about one thing. We are bound by our nature. But that doesn't shackle us─it brings us together. Tentoawa: And whether I'm asleep or awake, as long as Loazenikwe's by my side...that's the life I want.
What will you say? > We'll take the cradle back─together! > Show her no quarter─I'll be your shield!
Tentoawa: She's exhausted the cradle's power on the Temple Knights. This is our chance!
Leophyne: Hmph, no plan is without its wrinkles, I suppose. Fortunately, I prepare for all contingencies! Leophyne: You had an opportunity to live a quiet life, but I will not give it again. This time, I shall send you into a slumber from which you will never wake!
Solo Instance
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: Give back the cradle or we'll take it back!
Leophyne the Unchivalrous: All bluster, as usual. Take it if you dare!
Zundu Warriors: Protect the netherling warriors!
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: The Zundu! With them by our side, Leophyne won't stand a chance!
Leophyne the Unchivalrous: Why must you resist? Succumb to the burden of sleep, and dream eternal.
Zundu Warrior: Now! Wash away darkness of sleep with sundrop dance!
Leophyne the Unchivalrous: Don't just stand there! Kill them!
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: Forename, defend our allies over there! I'll take the other side!
Zundu Warriors: Witness the sundrop dance! Netherling warriors, awaken!
System: The Zundus' fearsome dancing gives rise to a swell of aether!
Loazenikwe the Shut Eye: Everyone's awake!
Zundu Warriors: Mighty Zundu protect netherling warriors! Keep cautious, like gaelicat under stormy skies!
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: Heh, now you're all alone. This ends now, Leophyne!
Leophyne the Unchivalrous: Why am I cursed with incompetents? Very well...dance with me, Wide Eye! Leophyne the Unchivalrous: I have yet to test the strength granted to me...your strength. Now I shall! Leophyne the Unchivalrous: Be undone! Leophyne the Unchivalrous: To think it could hold such immense power... Hahaha!
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: The artifact isn't for such callous hands!
Loazenikwe the Shut Eye: The narwhal's blessing is only for those with the heart of a defender!
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: Forename, we need to split up! You take that side!
Loazenikwe the Shut Eye: Thank you both! Healing is on the way!
Cutscene
Leophyne: The artifact swells with power...it begs to be released! Leophyne: Now you shut your eyes for the final time. Take a last glimpse of the waking world!
Solo Instance Continued
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: I'll protect you...until my last breath!
System: Brace yourself against the power of the artifact! System: Take cover behind Tentoawa!
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: Gaaahhh!
Loazenikwe the Shut Eye: I'm all right. What about Tentoawa!?
Leophyne the Unchivalrous: You think this piece of wood is for protection? Such a cloying sentiment... Leophyne the Unchivalrous: Cursed insects... You lot, finish them off! Earn your freedom!
Zundu Warrior: Sundrop dance shall rouse netherling warrior! Protect the sleeper until he awakens!
Loazenikwe the Shut Eye: It's time for us to protect Tentoawa! We'll get through this together! Loazenikwe the Shut Eye: On your feet, Tentoawa! It's your duty as the Wide Eye!
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: I owe you all my life. Thank you!
Zundu Warriors: Zundu go to help allies! May zephyr winds guide you to victory!
Leophyne the Unchivalrous: No... Sleep is inexorable... How are they doing this!? Leophyne the Unchivalrous: I am far from finished. You will not withstand this!
Tentoawa the Wide Eye: Others are just tools to you. Is that your idea of freedom!?
Cutscene
Leophyne: Ungh, you stubborn... You may have won today, but this is not over!
Tentoawa: Yes it is!
Leophyne: Damned fool!
Tentoawa: Now!
Leophyne: No!
Tentoawa: Say goodnight, Leophyne! Tentoawa: The Wide Eye watches eternal, and eternal is the sleep it bestows.
Loazenikwe: We finally stopped her!
Tentoawa: Yes... But we have someone else to worry about. Tentoawa: Forename, wake up! Are you all right!? Tentoawa: Hah! Only he would smile at a time like this!
Loazenikwe: (S)he's awake!
Optional Dialogue
Zundu Warrior: Netherling looks hale as a warrior in their prime─good! Our wicked foes fled from sundrop dance like twilight before dawn!
Loazenikwe: It's good to see you awake! Don't worry, you weren't asleep for long. And judging by your fierce expression, the cradle didn't sap any of your trademark vigor.
Speak with Tentoawa again
Tentoawa: Your work is done, Forename. You did a commendable job as our shield, and now you can lay down your burden. Tentoawa: It was thanks to your bravery that I was able to deal the final blow to Leophyne. And with the cradle back in our possession, I think we can consider this expedition across the seas to be a success!
Loazenikwe: The Zundu helped us gather the wounded and see them safely off to Ishgard. We couldn't have done it without you!
Zundu Warrior: Netherlings protect allies as fiercely as gaelicat protecting kittens! Zundu are moved by your might!
Tentoawa: You were equally as impressive! I should learn the sundrop dance myself, though I won't strike a figure half as fierce as yours! Tentoawa: The Zundu seem to have everything well in hand, and Handeloup is likely eager to see us. We should return to Ishgard as soon as we can.
Speak with Handeloup in Ishgard (cutscene)
Handeloup: Ah, the heroes of the day have returned! Thanks to your valor, the threat Leophyne posed is no more. What's more, not a single life was lost. Handeloup: On behalf of the Temple Knights, allow me to express my utmost gratitude to you all!
Tentoawa: You don't owe me any thanks. After all, it was my fault that the cradle was stolen in the first place, and ultimately my fault that your delegation to Ok' Zundu turned into a melee.
Handeloup: It may be true that our visit to the Sea of Clouds was far from peaceful, but the bond between the Zundu and Temple Knights has only deepened through overcoming mutual adversity. Blessings often take inscrutable forms. Handeloup: And while we know not whether Leophyne yet lives, we do know that she can no longer reach the source of her ill-gotten power, so we have little more to fear from her. Handeloup: With the crisis behind us, the commonfolk no longer have aught to fear. We will make known the story of Leophyne's schemes and the heroes who worked to foil them, and in time I hope that trust in our order will be restored. Handeloup: The Temple Knights shall continue to build relations with our neighbors for years to come─relations which shall form the foundation for Ishgard's future. We would be honored if we could count you among our allies in this endeavor!
Tentoawa: Anything you need, simply call upon us. We'll be there, no questions asked! Tentoawa: And with that, it's time we returned home. It's been an honor! Tentoawa: We'll be passing through Tuliyollal on our way back, Forename. If you have business in those parts, we'd love to speak with you at Xbalyav Ty'e before setting off. See you soon, hopefully!
Optional Dialogue
Handeloup: For ten years he alone defended his people, without rest or sleep... I understand the importance of tradition, but Master Tentoawa seems to be more suited for walking a path of his own making. Handeloup: He needs but to know his own heart, and I believe these recent events have given him such knowledge. He is bound for greatness, regardless of how he chooses to live.
Tentoawa: I'm glad you made it back to Tural, Forename. I'd been in Ishgard for so long I'd almost forgotten what it's like to sweat─but I remember now, you can be sure!
Speak with Loazenikwe in Tuliyollal (cutscene)
Loazenikwe: Forename, there you are! I was afraid we wouldn't see you before we left. Loazenikwe: We arrived not long ago, and apprised Br'uk Evu of everything that happened. Loazenikwe: This is the longest I've spent away from our village, but even though Tuliyollal and Ishgard were like entirely different worlds to me, I was only ever treated with kindness. Loazenikwe: Hmm? Is anything the matter, Tentoawa?
Tentoawa: Nothing, it's just...something I've been thinking about. Tentoawa: Our people have always been self-sufficient. But the Ishgardians and the Zundu showed that looking to your neighbor can reveal a way through the harshest difficulties. Tentoawa: And you heard Handeloup─the bond between Ishgard and Ok' Zundu was only made deeper through their shared ordeal. To trust another to such a degree... Well, I think it's a goal we should all strive toward. Tentoawa: We have at least one friend like that, don't we? He who bent his ears to every note of the narwhal's lullaby without a shade of fear in his eyes. Tentoawa: Thank you, Forename. Tentoawa: For believing in us. For believing that no matter the outcome, your actions would not be in vain. In so doing you taught me the worth of fighting alongside allies you can trust.
What will you say? > Even if your shield breaks, that is not the end. > I only protected you as you protected me.
< Even if your shield breaks, that is not the end. > Tentoawa: You're right. It's our faith in our allies─and their faith in us─that gives us the courage to protect each other.
< I only protected you as you protected me. > Tentoawa: Heh, is that what I did? I honestly don't remember much about that moment... I think I was only acting on instinct. I suppose that's what it means to have faith in your allies.
Tentoawa: But approaching someone with open arms doesn't mean they'll accept you. The relations between our people and our neighbors have been strained by generations of mistrust, and we must take care to mend them properly. Tentoawa: If we can do that, and learn to look towards the future hand in hand, then there will be no need to use the cradle ever again. Tentoawa: People can sleep and dream untroubled, and awaken with bright eyes... I want to see those days come to pass.
Loazenikwe: Me too. Then you and I can finally spend more time together!
Tentoawa: R-Right! Of course.
Loazenikwe: If we're going to see this future, then we should get back to our village. They'll be overjoyed to see the cradle returned.
Tentoawa: Thank you for everything, Forename! Next time we meet, may we both have good news to share!
