One of The First Brood. Mentioned by name during Endwalker as having responded to Nidhogg's call "with silence, as usual." Azdaja was Vrtra's caretaker and attempted to stop the voidsent invasion of Meracydia by flying into a voidgate, which trapped her for thousands of years in the 13th shard, also known as the Void. The Post-Endwalker Main Scenario Quests reveal that the voidsent leader Golbez has been imprisoning her as a rich source of aether for his "Circle of Four" archfiends.
During the course of attempting to rescue Azdaja from the Void, Golbez forcibly fuses her soul and body with Zodiark's residual aether in
the Red Moon, creating the powerful voidsent
Zeromus with the goal of breaking the inter-shard barrier and allowing a voidsent invasion of
the Source. Using light gathered from
the First, the Warrior of Light and their companions defeat Zeromus and successfully rescue Azdaja's soul, although her body could not be recovered. Vrtra uses one of his eyes to give Azdaja a much smaller dragon form, akin to
Midgardsormr's form when he accompanies the Warrior of Light during
Heavensward.
