“Former captain of the Sultansworn, Solkzagyl aspired to paladinhood that he might honor his grandfather, Caerkympf, a pirate whose life took a profound turn after he was saved from drowning off the coast of Thanalan. Trained in swordplay since childhood by his grandsire, Solkzagyl easily earned a place in the Sultansworn, where he soon distinguished himself with his formidable skill at arms. He gained the captaincy at the tender age of twenty and two—a feat made all the more impressive by the fact that in Ul'dah, his Sea Wolf kin were rare and often of ill-repute. For three decades did Solkzagyl lead his shining order, ever losing ground against the growing influence of the Monetarists, until one day he—along with the sacred blade, Oathkeeper—simply vanished.
— In-game description

Lore
Though he had been accused of stealing the Oathkeeper, Solkzagyl left the order to pursue the blade and restore it to its rightful place. He attempted to get word to Jenlyns, the new captain of the Sultansworn, but due to the plotting of The Monetarists, he was surrounded by many agents who would simply dispose of him should they find out he had learned the truth, so Solkzagyl was left to find the Oathkeeper himself. He encountered the Warrior of Light in Thanalan, slaying the undead soldiers in order to earn the right to join the order. Recognizing their potential, he approaches them, calling himself a free Paladin, and offers them advice. He hands over a Soul Crystal and asks them to show it to Jenlyns, then set off once again.
Solkzagyl spent time monitoring the actions of the Monetarists, and learned that they had been feeding Jenlyns false information, slowly encouraging him to meet to "parlay" with him. They had also framed the Warrior of Light and lef Jenlyns to believe they were in league together. After ambushing and being defeated by the Warrior of Light, Solkzagyl intervened just in time to deflect an arrow loosed by a Monetarist disguised as a Paladin who had attempted to dispose of Jenlyns. After Jenlyns passed out, Solkzagyl took him to his hideout to help him recover from his wounds, and revealed the truth of the Monetarists plot to him and what he has been doing since he went into hiding.
Realizing that he had drawn the ire of the Monetarists and their elite squad, the Death's Embrace, Jenlyns had planned to lead them away to Snowcloak and face off against them. Solkzagyl and the Warrior of Light followed him to Coerthas and aided in defeating the Death's Embrace mage that attacked them. Solkzagyl bid them both farewell, and continued to search for the Oathkeeper.
After some time, Solkzagyl did indeed manage to locate and reclaim the Oathkeeper, as well as the Soul Crystal of the first Paladin who wielded it. But both had lost their majestic luster, and would no longer shine the way they used to. In order to restore both of these relics to their former glory, he took on a pupil named Constaint, who he trained in the ways of the Paladin. He hoped that by training new Paladins and having them challenge each other, one would rise above all the others and force the light of the others to yield. To further this goal, he reached out to Jenlyns, the Warrior of Light and Papashan, and made them believe that he had been murdered before he was able to reclaim the sword. He left a trail for Constaint to follow, slowly uncovering Solkzagyl's armor in following with Paladin tradition.
When Constaint had gathered the armor and officially became a Paladin, he revealed himself to indeed be alive, and explained his goal. He had the Warrior of Light and Constaint battle against each other to determine the dominant Paladin. When the Warrior of Light emerged victorious, he revealed the Oathkeeper and crossed blades with the Warrior of Light, fighting with everything he had to ensure that whoever won would be the definitive strongest Paladin. When he finally fell, Solkzagyl cried out, not in anger but in joy, because the truest Paladin had finally been uncovered. Handing Oathkeeper to the Warrior of Light, it shone with a brilliant glow, as it had thirty years prior.
With the blade finally recovered, the Warrior of Light returned it to Jenlyns, so it may act as the blade of the captain of the Sultansworn once again. Though it did not shine, he did not lose heart, and vowed to make it as bright when he wielded it as it was for the Warrior of Light. Though he would not return to the Sultansworn as a brother in arms, Solkzagyl did return to Ul'dah as a free Paladin and mentor.
