— In-game description

Corvos is a region in Ilsabard. The name is Latin for "ravens." The location is also known as Locus Amoenus, a Latin phrase meaning "pleasant place." Both names are in equal use. This region is currently inaccessible in the game, but a fictional version of it can be visited in The Merchant's Tale The Merchant's Tale variant dungeon.

Geography

Corvos lies in the south of Ilsabard[1][2]. It is the coastal region opposite of the Island of Thavnair[3]. Its land is very fertile, boasting a veritable habitat diversity with myriad flora and fauna. To its north lies chilly peaks with temperate plains. The coastline is hot and humid[2].

Industry

  • Textile industry:

Corvos' weaves and fabrics bear resemblance to Thavnairian weave[4].

  • Ore industry

Under the Garlean Empire, the finest ore was procured from Corvos. It was used to built radios[5].

History

Allagan rule

More than five thousand years ago, the region of Corvos was a site of a provincial city founded by the Allagan Empire[1]. They brought Miqo'te slaves by ship to tile the fertile land for the Allagans[3][1]. This ended with the Fourth Umbral Calamity, and when the seas froze in the Fifth Umbral Calamity, many Miqo'te tribes attempted to travel back to Eorzea. Some remained behind, to preserve the Allagan knowledge and prevent that remnants of the Allagan Empire are being misused[3].

Garlean and Corvosi remained in Corvos, with the Corvosi subsequently driving out the Garleans towards the north. For nearly 800 years, no Garlean was found in Corvos[1].

Locus Amoenus

In 1515 of the Sixth Astral Era, Emperor Solus zos Galvus of the Garlean Empire ordered to subjugate the neighbouring nations. In 1522 of the Sixth Astral Era, all of Ilsabard was under Garlean rule. This was also the time when the Garlean Empire invaded Corvos, and eradicated the name from all records. The new name of the province became "Locus Amoenus"[1]. Some local culture would prevail though.

One of the towns in Locus Amoenus came under the jurisdirection of House Darnus[3].

Before the Final Days, Corvosi rebels were planning to become independent from Garlemald[6]. But their efforts and fighting had ceased.

During the Final Days, the skies also burned in Corvos[7]. Response to the calamity was slow, since the chain of command broke down after the contact to the Capital City of Garlemald was lost[1].

Present Day

After Radz-at-Han has reopened trade with a slowly rebuilding Garlemald, it was organizing a summit between the leaders of the resurgent Garlean community and the dignitaries of various surrounding countries. The viceroy of Locus Amoenus would be present as well[8].
