The Southern Seas
The Southern Seas, sometimes referred to as "the southern isles", is a geographic region within the world of Hydaelyn, located between Thavnair and Meracydia. The region was first alluded to by characters and item descriptions before becoming a playable instance in the 
Aloalo Island variant dungeon.
There is very little information known about the region.
Geography
The Southern Seas is a warm-weathered, mostly ocean-bound region near the equator. Amidst its pristine blue waters[1] are several small islands abundant with various flora and fauna. Fish originating from this region are also sometimes encountered near the Ceiliades Margin bordering southern Aldenard.[2][3]
Aloalo Island is one of the South Sea Isles, located in the west and directly south of Thavnair.
History
The isles of the southern seas are said to be where the Lalafell people originated from, purportedly having crossed the seas to Aldenard and beyond in small catamaran-style ships made of woven reeds. The magic employed by members of the playable Arcanist class is said to originate from "geometric techniques hailing from" this region, having been brought to Aldenard by Lalafellin immigrants.[4][5][6][7]
Lore
The seas far to the south of Eorzea also teem with countless tiny islets. Excepting the occasional squall, proximity to Hydaelyn’s equator blesses these islands with a warm, pleasant climate. It is from these islands that the Lalafell originated, using catamaran-like ships unique to their civilization to travel across the boundless waters and to the Great Continents.
Interaction between Eorzea and the southern isles is remarkably abundant, with most trade going through Limsa Lominsa and its busy ports. It is also well documented that arcanima—the school from which arcanists draw their craft—originated in these isles and was brought to Vylbrand by Lalafellin immigrants to the realm. [8]
