— In-game description

Self-destruct is an action unlocked at level 1. It is available for Blue Mage.

Flavor Text

Credited as the source of the “bomb” voidsent family's name, Self-destruct, when used by blue mages, converts the entirety of its caster's energy into fire-aspected aether to cause an explosion. The application of oil has been observed to make it more effective─though likely also more painful.

Tips

Acquisition Tips

  • Be sure to wait until the enemy uses Self-Destruct to kill itself. Do NOT kill it beforehand, only tag it (i.e, hit it at least once).
  • To enter the guildhest Guildhest Long Live the Queen as a blue mage, the duty must be entered with a full pre-made light party of 4 players. This can be done via the Party Finder. This is because Guildhests cannot be unsynced. (The guildhest may be entered with any group composition and with up to 4 blue mages. It is recommend to take 1 Tank, 1 Healer and 2 DPS; however, this is not a requirement to enter.)

Other Tips

  • This spell will incapacitate (i.e. KO) the user on execution. They will need to be resurrected after the cast.
  • Since this spell KOs the user, it will lower Gear Durability by 2% upon execution.
  • This spell can also be used as a pseudo-teleport to the player's   Return point, as players are sent there upon being KO'd, and players can use this spell to KO themselves on command.
    • If using this method, it is recommended to equip just a low-level cane (such as   Rainmaker) and no gear, to avoid spending gil on repairs. The cane itself does not need to be repaired.
  • Using this spell is the only method of incapacitating oneself in safe zones. Therefore, it can be used to trivialize some Sightseeing Log entries that require completing a jumping puzzle, most notably Stormblood entry 53 in Kugane on top of the lamp post. A Blue Mage that KOs themselves with this spell can be resurrected by a player on top of the lamp post, which will teleport them to the vista without having to complete the jumping puzzle.
