Additional Information

Lore

One of the Circle of Knowing's founding members, Rammbroes left the Sharlayan homeland for Eorzea near the end of the Sixth Astral Era to expand his research. Unlike his many compeers, the Sea Wolf[1] did not join the Scions of the Seventh Dawn following the Calamity, instead choosing to join the Sons of Saint Coinach at the behest of an associate. Though quickly presented with the opportunity to lead the Sons, Rammbroes was reluctant to accept the role, more intent on losing himself in millennia-old tomes after the loss of his trusted master. It was Y'shtola who reminded the fifty-year-old Sea Wolf of Louisoix's vision for Eorzea, convincing Rammbroes that the only true way to honor their late mentor was by using his peerless talents as both an anthropogeographer[2] and a natural-born leader of men to bring salvation to the realm.

Story Involvement

During the events of the Crystal Tower raid series, Rammbroes works alongside the members of NOAH as they forge their expedition into the Crystal Tower. Though he stays away from the fighting himself, Rammbroes offers invaluable aid in gathering the materials required to forge the "Crystal Fangs" and research that informs the complicated efforts to breach the tower's defenses. The sudden appearance of Unei and Doga, who claimed then to be members of the Students of Baldesion, did not sit entirely right with Rammbroes. He would admit his initial mistrust of the pair to the Warrior of Light, noting that neither he nor anyone else had called for aid, but allows them to accompany the party to the door of Syrcus Tower regardless. At the conclusion of the raid series, Rammbroes is noticeably saddened to learn that G'raha Tia made the decision to seal himself inside the tower, for fear of what his young associate might find upon reawakening after an unknown amount of time in the future.

As the player completes chapters of the Crystal Tower raid series, Rammbroes also becomes a source of lore re-summarization in the form of research logs. These records can be accessed at any point in time in the future by speaking to Rammbroes. After certain expansion content (from Patch 5.0 and beyond is completed), he has a few additional comments he interjects into the lore that reflect the player's main story progress to that point.

Other Quests

  • Rammbroes has a brief appearance in the Alchemist questline at Level 60.
  • Rammbroes appears again, with a slightly more involved role, in the Summoner questline, as does his organization.

Trivia

While Rammbroes is referenced as a Sea Wolf in the Encyclopædia Eorzea, and uses a Sea Wolf name, data mining tools show he is using a Hellsguard model in keeping with the dark skin tone. It is unknown if this was intentional.

Rammbroes Zasertylsyn's name means "Ram Chest" and (probably) "Right Valley's son," respectively, in the traditional Roegadyn language.
