In ancient Greek mythology, Metis was an Oceanid, one of the three thousand daughters of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys. She was the first wife and advisor of Zeus, King of the Gods, and they shared two children, Athena and Porus. She was swallowed by Zeus when he became aware of a prophecy that she would bear a son mightier than himself, who would overthrow him to become king of the cosmos.^[2]
