Lore
"I hope your friend can overcome her fear of us—how unpleasant it must be to endure this constant state of terror."
A resident of Yedlihmad, Kancana's primary responsibility is to assign the right work to the right workers. Though the sudden appearance of the Tower of Zot brought much uncertainty to the village, Kancana stood undaunted in the face of economic adversity, assuaging the concerns of the local merchants in those troubled times. Affable and kind, she thinks highly of the ambitious youths who come to her seeking employment—youths such as Trna and the Hippo Riders—and treats them as though they are her own flesh and blood. She is especially fond of the recently arrived Ogul, and assigned her to work with friendly Arkasodara so that the young Xaela could overcome her fear of the Matanga. Kancana insists that an amra a day keeps fatigue at bay; there may be some truth to her claim, as she remains lively and energetic despite having celebrated her fiftieth nameday.
