The Northern Empty

The government form of Sharlayan shows traits of a representative democracy and an academic republic, though it is never officially called like that. Instead of a single leader, the nation is ruled by acollectively elected council called the Forum, consisting of 99 members.

Determination of Rulership

Strictly speaking there is no leader in Sharlayan politics. All matters are decided by the Forum. They elect a speaker that acts as the Head of State, but it's powers are restricted by law[1].

Leaders

The speaker of the forum acts as Head of State.

Ruling Body

The Forum is the overall ruling body in Sharlayan. They are elected by the people of Sharlayan.

Additional Information

During the early years of Sharlayan, all adult citizens had a voice in political decissions. Debated was at the Ecclesia until a consensus was found[2]. For example, this is how they decided to have Thaliak as their patron deity.

Since their founding, Sharlayan has followed Nyunkrepf's philosophy of renounce war and walk in the light of wisdom and reason[3]. When the threat of a Garlean invasion rose, Sharlayan sent ambassadors to Garlemald to stop their advance on Eorzea and to parlay a peace. As this failed, Fourchenault Leveilleur decided to abandon the colony in the Dravanian Hinterlands[4].

When the Eorzean Alliance reached out to Sharlayan to seek aid against the Telophoroi, Sharlayan denied the request[5].
