As is the case with many others in the scalekin family, basilisks are swift to respond to any perceived intrusion of their territory with unrestrained ferocity. Doubtless owing to their size and savagery, these creatures are oft depicted in religious allegory as the incarnation of evil, most notably in the famous tale, "Saint Daniffen and the Basilisk."
