Journal

  • Despite Ser Aymeric's decision to disclose the circumstances surrounding his father's disappearance, there is growing unrest in the city of Ishgard. Some dispute the lord commander's version of events, while many who do accept the truth question the measures taken to stop the archbishop. Still others have turned their ire on the clergy whom they claim were complicit in Thordan's deception. Desperate to secure a lasting peace, Ser Aymeric bids you escort Lucia to Anyx Trine, that she might treat with Vidofnir and thereby reestablish diplomatic relations with Hraesvelgr's brood.
  • Lucia admits to knowing little of Anyx Trine or its surrounding lands, and thanks you for agreeing to serve as her escort. As it may be some time before you return to the capital, Alphinaud thinks it best to notify Tataru of your plans prior to departing.
  • Tataru is heartened to learn of your diplomatic mission, and readily concedes that it should take precedence over receiving the Sharlayan scholar. Even so, she encourages you to join the welcoming party in Idyllshire should time permit, as the Sharlayan scholar in question is not just anyone... Before she can elaborate, however, Alphinaud loudly declares that you must return to the Congregation at once. Apparently, the first commander has been kept waiting long enough.
  • Lucia has finished her preparations and is eager to depart. With luck, this will be a momentous journey...

Dialogue

Optional Dialogue

Tataru: The search for our missing friends continues. Should I learn something, I'll be sure to let you know.
Emmanellain: There you are, old girl/boy! We must go to the tavern togther, and soon! My friends all demand to be introduced to the Warrior of Light, and they refuse to take no for an answer!
Honoroit: Pray pay no heed to Lord Emmanellain, Mistress/Master [Surname]. I am certain you have far more pressing demands on your time. And for his part, my lord has lessons to attend...
Honoroit: He has resumed training in the blade, you see, and has shown admirable dedication...for the most part. I believe he has a mind to take up Lord Haurchefant's mantle—but if he is to succeed in this, he will need all the help he can get, and as few distractions as possible.

Accepting the Quest (Cutscene)

Alphinaud: Fortuitous timing as always, [Forename]. Tataru was about to brief me on the search for our missing comrades.
Alphinaud: If you would be so kind, then?
Tataru: Absolutely! You'll be pleased to hear that Riol and his men have been making excellent progress!
Tataru: You remember how F'lhaminn helped me to escape the Crystal Braves in Limsa Lominsa, only to then disappear? Well, according to Riol, she crept aboard a ship bound for Radz-at-Han, where she's been hiding ever since. He assures me that it won't be long before we're reunited.
Tataru: As for Yda and Papalymo, the remains of their linkpearls have been found─and in Pearl Lane of all places. Riol thinks they must have disposed of them after escaping from the Royal Promenade.
Alphinaud: Yes, that would make sense... They could not risk being eavesdropped upon by our betrayers.
Tataru: We're all but certain they fled the city shortly after...though we still don't have a clue where they went.
Alphinaud: I see. And what of Thancred and Minfilia?
Tataru: ...I'm afraid I have nothing new to share about those two. But it's not all doom and gloom! The good news is, we've enlisted the services of a Sharlayan scholar─one of the Students of Baldesion─to aid in the search, who should be arriving any day now!
Alphinaud: One of the Students, you say? I should very much like to meet this scholar─if time permits.
Alphinaud: But first we must attend to a more pressing matter. Ser Aymeric has summoned the two of us for a private audience. The messenger did not specify what he wished to discuss─only that it was urgent.
Alphinaud: Assuming you have no objections, [Forename], I suggest we proceed to the Congregation forthwith.
Alphinaud: And mayhap we can meet with the scholar afterwards. Agreed?
Tataru: In that case, I think I'll return to the Forgotten Knight for now. Things are liable to fall apart if I'm gone too long, you know!

Optional Dialogue

Alphinaud: Good invariably triumphs over evil in faerie tales, yet they are conspicuously reticent about what follows...
Tataru: Don't worry about our visitor. Y'shtola and I will treat her to a warm welcome!

Speaking with Aymeric at the Congregation of Our Knights Most Heavenly (Cutscene)

Temple Knight Guard:' The lord commander is within. Pray proceed, miss/sir.

Cutscene start

Aymeric: Thank you for coming. I wished to speak with you both in a place where privacy was assured.
Alphinaud: We quite understand. What was it that you wished to discuss?
Aymeric: With my father's passing, the seat of the archbishop lies vacant. And so, in accordance with canon law, I have assumed his responsibilities.
Aymeric: I should stress that this is a temporary measure. It was never intended that the lord commander of the Temple Knights serve in this capacity indefinitely.
Aymeric: Quite the opposite. The statues specify that I should surrender my powers as soon as a conclave of the senior clergy and the High Houses have named a new archbishop.
Aymeric: But in light of recent events, that would not seem appropriate.
Alphinaud: I confess, I did not expect you to divulge quite so much quite so soon. The details of the archbishop's plans, perhaps... but the true origin of the war and all it entails...?
Aymeric: I too had concerns. But when the Warrior of Light is witnessed returning to the capital on the back of a dragon, one's options are rather limited.
Aymeric: Mayhap I could have concealed certain details...bu for how long? And at what risk? Should the truth have come to light in the meantime, how would the people have viewed my silence?
Aymeric: After a thousand years of lies and secrecy, I could not well abuse their trust and hope to be believed. The time for deception has passed.
Aymeric: ... I only wish the people agreed. That some would deny the truth, I had anticipated - but not this many. And among the few who acknowledge that my father had to be stopped, no small number question our methods.
Alphinaud: If they suspect a coup, it will not be long before some turn to violence.
Lucia: It has already begun—and that on both sides. Men and women of the cloth are being harassed on the streets. Some have even been assaulted in the Brume.
Lucia: Hilda and her people have formed a watch to help us maintain order, but such measures will not prevent the unrest from spreading.
Aymeric: For all our talk of peace, the people remain frightened and confused. For their sake, we must bring the Dragonsong War to a definitive end.
Alphinaud: And we should be glad to help you, Ser Aymeric. But what precisely would you have us do?
Lucia: We wish to treat with the dragons of Anyx Trine. To that end, I would trouble you for an escort and an introduction.
Alphinaud: Anyx Trine? ...You would speak with Vidofnir, then?
Aymeric: We must needs open a dialogue between our peoples. Acting as my representative, Lucia will extend an invitation to their leader, that she might visit us here in Ishgard.
Aymeric: Were she still with us, I would of course have beseeched Ysayle's assistance in this matter. But as she is not, I must ask that you aid us in her stead. Will you do us this favor?
Aymeric: Thank you, my friends.
Aymeric: Lucia—I leave the rest to you.

Count Edmont de Fortemps Voiceover (Cutscene)

Count Edmont de Fortemps: In the wake of the archbishop's fall, the nation of Ishgard trembled, the faith of her people shaken to its very core.
Count Edmont de Fortemps: For a thousand years had they fought and died, certain of the justice of their cause, only to be told that their holy war was born of the sins of their forefathers.
Count Edmont de Fortemps: What then, for those brave men and women, thus stripped of their righteousness, but to despair? To deny the truth and decry its speakers?
Count Edmont de Fortemps: And what then for those whom they defamed but to hope on? To have faith in a brighter tomorrow?
Count Edmont de Fortemps: A tomorrow in which man and dragon might live together in harmony─then as distant as the very stars in the heavens...
Count Edmont de Fortemps: Yet while we dared to hope, deep within his lair, the enemy lay gathering his strength.
Count Edmont de Fortemps: Nidhogg, now possessed of his two eyes and the body of the Azure dragoon─prizes to which he had laid claim at the very hour of the heroes' triumph.
Count Edmont de Fortemps: As desperately as we sought the solace of peace, the great wyrm craved the misery of war. Nor was he alone in this misbegotten desire...
(Optional)
Alphinaud: The journey, at least, should pose little difficulty this time.

Speaking with Lucia

Lucia: I know little of the lands these dragons call home—this Anyx Trine. Had you not agreed to escort me, the coming journey would seem a far more daunting prospect.
Alphinaud: I confess, I myself once shuddered at the thought of it. Yet even the longest journey begins with the first step, does it not?
Ah, but ere we set forth, Small and I must needs inform our comrade of our plans.
Lucia: Very well. I shall see to my preparations.
Alphinaud: Then let us go and bid farewell to Tataru, [Forename].

Optional Dialogue

Lucia: Traversing the western highlands calls for warmer clothing. Yet there are only so many layers one can fit under plate armor...
Alphinaud: Hm? I thought you might want to tell her. Or would you rather I did all the talking...?

Speaking with Tataru

Tataru: So? What was your secret meeting about? I'm all ears!
Tataru: A diplomatic mission to Anyx Trine, you say? Well, I suppose that does take precedence...
Tataru: But should your meeting with Vidofnir happen to end early, you might consider rendezvousing with Y'shtola in Idyllshire. She'll be there to receive our guest.
Tataru: Don't get me wrong, your meeting with the dragons is terribly important and everything, but this scholar just happens to be -
Alphinaud: Time permitting, as I said. We shall endeavor to join Y'shtola, but if we cannot, pray pass on our regards.
Alphinaud: Let us be off, [Forename]. We have kept the first commander waiting long enough.
Alphinaud: One task at a time, [Forename]. Besides, I have no doubt that Y'shtola can look after the scholar by herself.

Optional Dialogue

Tataru: <sigh> Well, let no one say I didn't try!

Speaking with Lucia

Lucia: You are ready, then? Good - so am I.

Optional Dialogue in the Rising Stones

V'mah Tia: I was one of those to answer the Scions' call to arms, and volunteer my blade at the siege of Ishgard. 'Twas there that I made the acquaintance of this fair fellow...
Alianne: To help widen the net of our search efforts, I've recruited a small army of seasoned adventurers—friends from my own days in the dungeon—delving trade.
Bluomwyda: I am sorry that I refused your plea for aid. But aside from the very real dangers that Ishgard faced, I sensed... something not quite right about the Crystal Braves.
Ephemie: Riol and Lady Yugiri have already left to pursue rumors of the missing Scions. I think I might head to Gridania myself, and make some inquiries there.
Aergmhus: <belch> Ah, there's naught like a well—earned drink after a hard day's work!
Aenor: I've met a new man, but he spends more time talking about his lost sibling than aught else. Mayhap you've met the missing brother—I hear he used to work here...
Clemence: Oh, Aenor, why must you always fall for these tragic types? And it is not as if we need another healer...
Isildaure: I came as soon as I heard the news of Alianne's capture. But these old bones do not move as quickly as they once did, and the worst of it had ended by the time I arrived in the Toll.
Homei: And so the moment you learned that your young companion was in danger, you hastened here with axe in hand? Such fighting spirit! We shall be fine friends, you and I.
Ocher Boulder: For a thousand days I walked along the edges of Abalathia's fiery craters, tempering both mind and body that I might withstand the rigors of battle at my brother's side.
Ocher Boulder: When at last I felt I was prepared, I traveled here to Mor Dhona...only to be greeted with the news that Hoary is nowhere to be found!
