Walkthrough

You will be accompanied by Kaqool Ja the Repentant during this battle, which consists of defeating members of Chalteaufite's gang before taking on Chalteaufite himeself.

At the start, only an Unyielding Mettle barrier covering a Craven Follower in a magitek reaper is targetable. It will have the Unbroken Mettle buff, causing your attacks to deal very little damage.

  • Homing Laser: The untargetable magitek reapers in the background will aim one telegraphed line AoE at you and one at Kaqool Ja, dealing magical damage. Spread out to avoid overlap.
  • Missile Storm (no cast bar): Instant room-wide magical damage. This is used repeatedly throughout the battle.
  • Multiple circle AoE telegraphs will appear, while the adds will use Homing Laser at the same time.
  • After some time, the barrier will become damaged, and a blue circle will appear at a point on it, indicating a weak point. Attacks should be directed when directly facing the blue circle so the barrier will take normal damage. These will also be represented by different status effects: Fractured Mettle and Backward/Leftward/Rightward Fracture.

After destroying it, the Craven Follower will retreat, and the three other magitek reapers will enter the arena and become targetable. These will all initially have the Unyielding Mettle barrier and take very little damage.

  • Kaqool Ja will use an AoE that will damage all of the barriers, giving them weak points in different directions.
  • The barriers can then be destroyed again by focusing attacks the weak points.
  • The single magitek reaper in the background will use Magitek Cannon, a telegraphed magical spread AoE on you, while circle AoE telegraphs also spawn.

After destroying the three additional barriers, six Magitek Missiles will spawn, three tethering you and three tethering Kaqool Ja, and will gradually move towards the tethered targets. Contacting the ones that you are tethered to will result in high damage. The adds have very low health and can be dispatched in 1-2 attacks.

  • Chalteaufite will replenish the barrier on the four magitek reapers.
  • Additional sets of Magitek Missiles will spawn, which should be defeated. Meanwhile, one of the reapers will use a telegraphed large circle AoE in the middle of the arena, which will consume its barrier.
  • Another set of missiles will spawn, while the three remaining magitek reapers will each use a telegraphed circle AoE, leaving three small safe areas.
  • With their barriers gone, the magitek reapers will become targetable and should be defeated.

Chalteaufite himself will now enter the arena. He will be piloting a Prometheus magitek and have an Unyielding Mettle barrier.

  • Heavy Surface Missiles: Eight magical proximity AoE markers will spawn in four sets of two. Move away from the first two and rotate to move away from the remaining ones.
  • Guns Blazing: Chalteaufite will aim 90 degree telegraphed conal AoE at you, which can be dodged. This is followed by a telegraphed 270 degree AoE hitting the previously safe area.
  • Ruthless Bombardment: Chalteaufite summons multiple small and large circle AoE telegraphs, leaving some safe areas.
  • After some time, Ceetol Ja will tether and empower Kaqool Ja, who will keep attacking the barrier.
  • Magitek Missiles will spawn and move towards Kaqool Ja, which should be destroyed to protect him.
  • The player will also be targeted with circle AoEs at their current position. It is fine if these hit Kaqool Ja, as they do negligible damage.
  • Kaqool Ja will then use a strong attack that will crack the barrier and give it a weak point, allowing you to focus attacks on it. Ceetol Ja will also give you a Shining Encouragement buff, increasing damage dealt.
  • After destroying the barrier, Chalteaufite will become targetable and can be easily defeated, as he has low health. He will use Raging Artillery, dealing continuous hits of magical damage.

Journal

  • Ceetol Ja steels herself for the final confrontation with Chalteaufite.
  • You receive word from your men on the inside that Chalteaufite and his gang will soon begin their assault on Ala Mhigo. Just as you are preparing to leave, Kaqool Ja once again demonstrates his knack for being in the right place at the right time, and offers his services in the upcoming battle. Glad to have the mercenary's axe, you and Ceetol Ja prepare for the final confrontation with Chalteaufite.
  • You arrive in the nick of time, as Chalteaufite's gang have yet to reach their intended target, the Royal Palace. As their caravan loaded with magitek weaponry cannot traverse the various flights of stairs throughout the city, Ceetol Ja suggests taking a shortcut and intercepting your foes.
  • Now that you are ready to spring your ambush and cut off Chalteaufite's advance, Ceetol Ja awaits your signal to attack. Although your foe possesses not only the Steelhog Vessel but an untold number of magitek warmachines, you and your comrades cling to the hope that the key to victory will yet present itself.
  • Remembering that “Even the mightiest shield will eventually crack,” you succeed in shattering the artifact's barrier and Chalteaufite's dreams of world domination along with it. Now that the Steelhog Vessel is back in Ceetol Ja's hands and the gang members clapped in irons, you take a moment to savor your triumph.
  • After the battle, Kaqool Ja reveals his intention to repent for his crimes by turning himself in to the authorities. He also wishes one day to apologize to the members of Ceetol Ja's village for the harm he has caused using the artifact, should he ever have the opportunity to visit. Ceetol Ja herself welcomes the idea, but for now, there are more immediate concerns, such as returning to Tuliyollal to present Raholl Ja with the Steelhog Vessel.
  • As one might expect, Raholl Ja is thrilled by the safe return of the vessel, yet even that is overshadowed by the joy of reuniting with his granddaughter after her perilous mission overseas. Now that the artifact has been retrieved, the villagers can resume hunting in the forest without fear of being devoured by monstrous creatures. Ceetol Ja offers her heartfelt thanks and bids you farewell until chance or fate brings you together once more.

Dialogue

Accept the quest

Avenel and Pepin are on their way here!
Start of cutscene.
It's Chalteaufite! He's set his plan into motion!
We would've come sooner, but after Kaqool Ja openly opposed him, he became even more secretive than before. He refused to share his schemes with even his most loyal.
Now, he's used a caravan to smuggle a load of magitek into the city. He's about to launch an assault on the Royal Palace!
We managed to sneak away, but Chalteaufite and the others will make their move any moment now!
Understood! We'll head there straightaway.
We've no choice but to face them head-on. While I wish there was more I could do to help, I'd best leave the fighting to you.
No, what am I saying!? There must be a way I can help! The treasure is from my village─I should be the one to solve this!
What will you say?
I'm sure you'll think of something on the way.
If you're in, you're in. This is no time to waver!
Stand back and let me take care of this.
I thought I'd find you here.
Ceetol Ja, you've already done so much for me and the others Chalteaufite tricked into becoming his accomplices.
It would appear it's in your nature to help wherever you can. Nevertheless, your place is not on the battlefield. You must leave that to Forename...and myself.
But what about your injuries?
They were not so severe to begin with, and those in the gang sympathetic to me provided various balms to treat the worst of them.
I'm glad to know there are a few good eggs among them. But now that we've decided who's going, we need a plan.
From the way Chalteaufite uses the vessel, it's clear there's one thing he hasn't realized yet. As we say in my village, “Cracks form in even the mightiest of shields.” If there's a limit to the blessing's power, we'll find it!
Whatever you do, you'd better do it quickly. Chalteaufite and the others will soon reach the palace!
We'll share everything we know with the Resistance and ask them to come as quickly as possible!
Be careful out there!
End of cutscene.
Optional dialogue
As I said, my wounds are healed. Even if they weren't, I'd still be here.

Speak with Ceetol Ja

They must've taken the long way around, since the caravan won't be able to traverse the stairs. We, on the other hand, have no such concerns. Let's take a shortcut and intercept them.
Then again, they may try to use the vessel's power to stop our advance. We'd best keep our eyes peeled for danger.
You're the best choice to lead the charge, so we'll await your signal.

Speak with Ceetol Ja again

Ready? Well then, it's now or never...
Umm...
Sorry, this charging into battle stuff is all new to me. I won't pretend I'm not scared, but I'll try to stay out of your way!
Besides, I can't afford to back down now, knowing what's at stake. Let's show Chalteaufite who he's dealing with!
Start of cutscene.
Infiltrating the city was almost too easy! Now go, comrades! The smoldering ruins of the old order will be the foundation of our utopia!
That's as far as you go!
I thought I'd seen the last of you.
Do you not see that this artifact can lift up the meek from under the boots of their oppressors? Not just one isolated tribe, but everyone who's ever known fear! You call me a villain, but it's you who would keep such a liberating power to yourself!
You are no better than those we struggle against, and only when your ilk have been eradicated will the world know freedom. The hour has come for us to rise up and take what is rightly ours!
My whole village might rely on the treasure's blessing, but we would never use it to steal from others!
You lie, cheat, and sow nothing but misery. You don't want to cast down the oppressors─you want to be the oppressors!
Silence! Enough of your sanctimonious prattle!
Perhaps I am every bit as wicked as you claim, but what of it?
Does your self-righteousness make you better than me!?
For you, and all those who judge me unworthy, my hatred will never die!
End of cutscene.

Solo Instance

Remember, “Cracks form in even the mightiest of shields”!
There must be some truth to it! Don't let up your attack!
Keep attacking the barrier!
With the blessing, even one of us should be more than enough!
Hahaha! You are powerless to stop me!
It's working! Place your trust in the proverb!
Once I've dealt with you, Ala Mhigo is as good as mine!
Th-The barrier is fading!?
Is this what you meant?
Focus your attacks on the barrier's cracks!
That's it, Forename! If you keep hitting the same spot, it's sure to break!
Focus your attacks on the barrier's cracks!
The cracked mettle is shattered!
This can't be... Don't just stand there gawping, surround them!
You fool, Chalteaufite! This is the limit of the artifact's power!
Focus your attacks on the barrier's cracks!
Leave this to me! Keep attacking the barrier!
The cracked mettle is shattered!
The cracked mettle is shattered!
The cracked mettle is shattered!
Meddling curs! Let's see what you make of this!
There's no use fleeing! We've got to strike from a distance!
How could they shatter the barrier? The artifact's power is absolute!
Behold the power at my command!
Hahaha! The shockwave will make short work of you!
Imbeciles! Show some backbone!
What are you waiting for! Destroy them!
Aaagh! How can this be happening!? You lot, keep them occupied!
Keep attacking the barrier!
Useless! Do I have to do everything myself!?
I grant myself the full might of the blessing! Resist me at your peril!
Even that shield will crack eventually! Trust in the teachings and keep attacking!
I don't need help to deal with the likes of you!
Hnnngh... At this rate, we won't last much longer!
Don't give in, Kaqool Ja! You still need to travel back to Tuliyollal, don't you?
You can't lose to someone like Chalteaufite!
Ceetol Ja's words of encouragement empower Kaqool Ja!
Ha! You will learn the fate of those who betray me!
Forename! Stop those missiles!
Focus your attacks on the barrier's cracks!
Focus your attacks on the barrier's cracks!
Now, Forename! Smash the barrier!
Chalteaufite... You stole the vessel to threaten others, even your own followers! It's time for you to pay!
Ceetol Ja's words of encouragement empower you!
The cracked mettle is shattered!
Aaaaaagh! Get away! Get away from me!
Not so tough without the blessing, are you!? Now's our chance, Forename!
Keep going! You can do this!
Start of cutscene.
We got the vessel back! And it's still in one piece!
Please, I beg of you...give me the artifact... All the trials I overcame to join the Unbound...everything I did was for a chance at happiness...
Without the blessing...I'm nothing... My enemies will live on, unpunished...
Enough! I've tried reasoning with you, but it seems there's only one language you understand!
Aaarrrgh!
Are you all right!?
Never better!
We surrender!
I'd say that Chalteaufite's plans for world domination are well and truly over. Not only that, but the Steelhog Vessel is back where it belongs! Or at least, it will be soon.
Of course, I have you two to thank for everything! I quite literally couldn't have done it without you!
End of cutscene.
Optional dialogue
It's finally over...

Speak with Ceetol Ja once more with gusto

Start of cutscene.
Although the Resistance arrived more than a bit late, they've now taken Chalteaufite and his cronies into custody.
They're lucky we were on hand to confront the gang, or things could've ended very differently!
I have to say, my first trip overseas was a lot more eventful than I'd have liked, but I'm glad I had the chance to meet so many interesting people. Well, apart from all the criminals, that is.
As much as I'd like to spend more time seeing the sights and whatnot, I suppose I'd best get the vessel back to Tural. What about you, Kaqool Ja?
There's only one thing I can do; turn myself in, just like Pepin and Avenel. Even if I was dancing to Chalteaufite's tune, the fact remains that I committed those crimes of my own free will, and I must pay the penalty.
Perhaps if I am one day granted freedom, I'd like to pay my way home with fairly earned coin. The first thing I'd do upon returning is visit your village, and offer my apologies for using the artifact to carry out evil deeds.
After that, I...
No, it is too soon to speak of such things.
Wherever your journeys lead, you're always welcome in my village. Be sure to come visit one day!
How about you, Forename? If you happen to pass through Tuliyollal, my grandfather would love to show his appreciation for all you've done! Maybe I'll see you there?
End of cutscene.

Speak with Raholl Ja at Xbalyav Ty'e

Start of cutscene.
You are returned, Forename! But pray tell, what has become of my granddaughter?
Why, I'm right here! We did it, grandfather! We took back the Steelhog Vessel!
My dear! What a relief it is to see you safe and well!
Of course, I am glad you were able to retrieve the treasure, but even that cannot compare to the joy of seeing your smile once more.
And to you, Forename, I must express the sincerest gratitude. No doubt we have you to thank for Ceetol Ja's safe return, not to mention that of the vessel, as well.
Absolutely. I would've been lost without your guidance and bravery in the face of danger. Thank you, truly.
Anyway, we should be getting back to the village. No doubt the others will be clamoring to use the Steelhog Vessel to go hunting! I'll be coming back to Tuliyollal at some point, so hopefully, we'll run into each other again soon.
Until next time!
End of cutscene.
