Who *actually* canonized Saint Coinach?

We currently have conflicting information between the current draft of Saint Coinach's page and entries that mention him on the Sixth Astral Era/Timeline.

The former currently says:

  • Though he would pass away a mere year after this discovery, he was canonized by the followers of Althyk, granting him the status of "Saint",
  • There are no citations or references to back this up so I don't know where the original wiki author got this info.

The latter entries and references from the timeline say:

  • ca 980, Citation of "Encyclopædia Eorzea pg. 024." attached to entry about him setting out
  • Coinach's efforts are described as taking place "six centuries ago" and lasting for fifty years of his life. Because he is from Ul'dah, which was founded in 969, we must presume that his efforts began in the late tenth century and stretched into the eleventh century.
  • ca 1030 entry about him finding proof of Allag in Mor Dhona. After his death, followers of Thaliak, the Scholar, canonize him as a saint. this is also pointed towards Page 24 of EE.

I don't own a copy of EE and can't refer to the actual text. Does anyone know of in-game clarification of this point? Or have the passage handy somewhere for review? ArcaneFocus (talk) 17:15, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

I'll check EE when I get home. However, I am inclined to believe the page with a citation over the other. Freedom4556 (talk) 18:53, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

The citation referred to the correct page, but got the deity wrong. My copy of EE clearly says "Further vindication was achieved after his death when he was canonized, not by the order which forsook him, but by followers of Althyk, the Keeper." The "order which forsook him" was the Order of Nald'thal according to earlier in the paragraph. Freedom4556 (talk) 23:48, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

Cool, thanks for looking that up. I think I'll update the citation to include that sentence, "Further vindication was achieved after his death when he was canonized, not by the order [of Nald'Thal] which forsook him, but by followers of Althyk, the Keeper." Also, I think I understand how this confusion happened. Do you know what edition your copy of EE is (release/publishing year might work)?
There's a forum post from 2011 saying that in someone's copy it's as Coinach being canonized by the followers of "Althyk, the Scholar" -- a frankenstein typo of the correct titles --"Althyk, the Keeper", and "Thaliak, the Scholar." My expectation earlier was that the "correct answer" to this mismatch would turn out to be Thaliak, because Coinach was Sharlayan, and their city's patron deity is Thaliak. I imagine the previous article author thought the same. ArcaneFocus (talk) 04:23, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
