Rycharde Mistbeard
Mistbeard is as much a historical figure as he is a mystery. Initially he sailed the Five Seas during the Sixth Astral Era and became notorious for wearing a distinctive mask and uniting several pirate crews under his banner. He was reportedly slain in a battle against a vessel from Radz-at-Han, however he resurfaced a few years later, leading to the legend that he is immortal.
Nearly three hundred years later, Mistbeard's pirates did battle against the League of Lost Bastards, and their battle gave the Bloodshore its name, as the slain pirates' blood caused the tides to run red.
Thirty years later, it is believed that Mistbeard led his pirates to plunder gifts from a merchant ship carrying gifts for a royal wedding. It is said at this point Mistbeard disappeared shortly after, never to be seen again, leaving his treasure somewhere on Hullbreaker Isle.
The Haar was once the flagship of Mistbeard's fleet and one of the most feared vessels on the Five Seas. One day, completely by chance, a merchant sailed into the reefs of Hullbreaker Isle, a place where a dense fog covers everything and only lifts under very specific conditions, thanks in part to the aetheric fluctuations caused by the Seventh Umbral Calamity. Upon sailing through the fog, the merchant came upon the wreckage of The Haar. Upon reporting this find, treasure hunters the realm over began searching for a way onto the island to reach the legendary treasure first.
