“Kupopo believes an apology is in order.
— In-game description
Steps
- Speak with the cheerless Hearer by Nophica's Altar.
- Speak with Kupopo.
- Speak with Kupopo once more.
Journal
- Kupopo believes an apology is in order.
- With the power of pictomancy now at your disposal, Kupopo is eager to teach you the basics of the art─though he would prefer to do so with a clear conscience. Having been made aware of the trouble he has caused with his solicitations, he wishes to apologize to the cheerless Hearer, and urges you to follow him to Nophica's Altar.
- While pleasantly surprised to receive an apology from Kupopo, the Hearer reveals that the moogle was not the sole source of his woes. An abandoned manor in the Gentry's Ward has been infested with noisemaking pests, and their clamor must be silenced. Reminding you that it is the spirit of the pictomancer to lend a helping hand, Kupopo deems this matter an opportunity for you to put your skills to the proof, and volunteers you to quell the threat.
- You make short work of the pests dwelling in the manor basement, ensuring that nearby residents can enjoy an untroubled sleep. Kupopo is pleased to see how quickly you are growing into your role, and suggests you return to Old Gridania to celebrate your success.
- Having addressed the Hearer's pest problem, you make your triumphant return to the Gentry's Ward gates. Kupopo will no doubt wish to discuss your progress further.
- Travel is essential to pictomancy, Kupopo explains, for the practitioner benefits greatly from new experiences. His lecture is interrupted, however, by the cheerless Hearer, whose expression transforms into one of relief when you inform him of your victory. He leaves a far happier man than he was when you met him, and Kupopo is thrilled to see the culmination of your selfless efforts. Before the two of you set off for a new destination, he reminds you to continue your training and remember your promise to help find his dear friend.
- ※The next pictomancer quest will be available from Kupopo upon reaching level 83.
Dialogue
Accepting the Quest
Kupopo: Very nice! Now you literally embody the soul of a pictomancer, kupo! Kupopo: While a pictomancer's brush may look like a big paintbrush, it is in fact a stylized variety of staff. That said...you're probably wondering why we don't just use staves. Kupopo: Put simply, it's much easier to bring your imagination to life through the medium of art! Magicked brushes and ink allow a pictomancer to express abstract thoughts in a deliberate manner, kupo. Kupopo: As I mentioned, though, it's ultimately your imagination that matters the most. For with the wisdom of pictomancers past at your disposal, you already possess the artistic skills you require! Kupopo: Now, as much as I would love for you to get to painting right away, there is something else we must do first. Kupopo: We must go to Nophica's Altar and apologize to the Hearer you mentioned─and by “we,” I mean me. Off we go, kupo!
Speaking with the cheerless Hearer by Nophica's Altar (Cutscene)
Cheerless Hearer: <sigh> For the love of the elementals, no more complaints... Cheerless Hearer: Ah! I beg your pardon, adventurer. That moogle there─is that perhaps...?
Kupopo: Indeed, I'm the one who caused you much trouble. It wasn't my intention to do so, and I've come to beg forgiveness, kupo...
Cheerless Hearer: Oh, I see... As you appear to be genuinely remorseful, all I ask is that you refrain from aggressive solicitations henceforth. Agreed?
Kupopo: You have my word, kupo! Now that I've found a capable pictomancer, my soliciting days are over.
Cheerless Hearer: I'm relieved to hear it. With this matter settled, I may turn my attention to another situation...
Kupopo: Oh? And what situation might this be?
Cheerless Hearer: Distressing noises coming from an empty manor in the Gentry's Ward. Fiends are believed to be haunting the cellar, and their nightly clamor is keeping the surrounding residents awake...
Kupopo: Fiends, you say...? [Forename] here will deal with them, kupo! Kupopo: Remember, it is in the spirit of the pictomancer to lend a helping hand. To shine the light of hope for those in need! Kupopo: This is also a welcome opportunity to put your newfound skills to the test. Rest assured I'll be there to offer sage advice every wing flap of the way!
Cheerless Hearer: Your offer of aid is kind indeed, and I accept it with thanks. The Gentry's Ward is situated just past Apkallu Falls─proceed there when you are ready.
Kupopo: And ready we are, aren't we, [Forename]? Let the pictomancy training begin, kupo!
(Optional) Cheerless Hearer: My thanks again, and take care...
Speaking with Kupopo
Kupopo: The Gentry's Ward lies beyond those gates! Are you ready to put your skills to the test, kupo?
What will you say? > < I'm ready to paint up a storm! > < I need a moment to finish preparing... > < I need a moment to finish preparing... > Kupopo: Very well, but don't take too long, kupo! (Dialogue Ends)
< I'm ready to paint up a storm! > Kupopo: Excellent! Time to clear out that manor, kupo!
Solo Duty
Kupopo: I sense monsters lurking below... Kupopo: But before we charge in, allow be to expound upon the fundamentals of pictomancy! Kupopo: You must first paint a motif on canvas. Only then can you bring it to life! Kupopo: Try making a Pom Motif. Go on, don't be shy! Kupopo: Well done, Kupo! Now to unleash it upon your foes. Kupopo: Focus your magicks on that striking dummy and summon your Pom Muse! Kupopo: Poms awaaa! Splendid work, Kupo. Kupopo: Next, give me your best Wing Motif. Kupopo: Very good, Kupo! Now you may invoke your Winged Muse against our friend the striking dummy. Kupopo: With poms and wings fresh in your mind, I want you to imagine what these muses could accomplish together... Kupopo: By fusing them, you'll give life to a fantastical moogle, Kupo! Kupopo: Think big, mognificent thoughts and envision your new friend: Mog of the Ages! Kupopo: Excellent, kupo! He may not be as winsome as yours truly, but he should serve you well enough. Kupopo: Aside from your moogle, a Hammer Stamp is an excellent alternative to pummeling foes! Kupopo: But if you wish to provide support, I recommend inspiring your allies with Starry Muse. Kupopo: Never stop dreaming up those motifs, kupo! Your allies will thank you, and your enemies won't know what hit them. Kupopo: It takes some getting used to, so feel free to experiment, kupo! I'll be here when you're ready. Kupopo: Your Striking Muse looks like quite the clobberer, kupo! Very impressive! Kupopo: What breathtaking scenery, kupo! Had we other allies here, I'm certain they'd be just as awed.
< Are you ready to proceed? > < Yes > < No >
< Yes > Kupopo: All set, kupo? Then it's time we silenced that noise! Kupopo: The infestation is worse than I expected... We should clear these ones out first. Kupopo: Let's make a lesson of it, kupo! By casting spells of different hues, your palette will begin storing aether. Kupopo: With a sufficiently saturated palette, you may be able to avail yourself of the Subtractive Palette's increased might!
System: The Palette Gauge will fill when performing single-target combos starting with Fire in Red. System: Area of effect combos starting with Fire II in Red will also fill the Palette Gauge. System: When the Palette Gauge reaches 50, you will be able to use Subtractive Palette. System: While Subtractive Palette is active, you will be able to cast stronger aetherhue spells.
Kupopo: You're a natural with that Subtractive Palette, kupo! Kupopo: It seems you've scared off the stragglers, as well! Let's head further in. Kupopo: Ah, now that's an obnoxious noisemaker, kupo. Kupopo: Since you've grasped the basics, I'll leave you to your pictomancy—show that spriggan what for! Kupopo: Painting a motif takes concentration, kupo! Time your brushstrokes wisely. Kupopo: If your enemy's movements begin to overwhelm, bring one of your muses to life!
Cutscene
Kupopo: Well done, [Forename]! I knew you'd make an excellent pictomancer from the first!
< What will you say? > < I have the soul crystal to thank for that. > < What can I say? I'm good. > < Did you really, though? >
< I have the soul crystal to thank for that. > Kupopo: Such a show of skill, yet you remain so humble... I tip my pom to you, kupo!
< What can I say? I'm good. > Kupopo: That you are, my friend! And credit to myself as well for spotting your talents!
< Did you really, though? > Kupopo: O-Of course I did! Moogle's honor!
(All) Kupopo: In any case, with those clamorous fiends gone for good, the residents can rest easy once more. Kupopo: But come, let's quit this place─the dampness doesn't agree with my fur.
Speaking with Kupopo once more (Cutscene)
Kupopo: Allow me to congratulate you on a successful first outing, [Forename]! The pictomancers of eld would be proud. Kupopo: Though you may yet be a novice of the art, as a veteran adventurer you've grasped the fundamentals quickly─as well you should, kupo! Kupopo: Archon Relm didn't urge her disciples to roam the star for their own amusement, you know! Kupopo: She wished for them to intimately understand the wider world. To journey to lands unknown and savor every discovery. To revel in sensations, emotions─and yes, even in danger. Kupopo: For these experiences enrich the palette of the imagination, making one's pictomancy all the more vibrant, kupo!
Cheerless Hearer: You are returned! Cheerless Hearer: I began to worry and came to see whether all was well. Dare I hope you've dealt with the fiends? Cheerless Hearer: Wonderful, wonderful! With this, all outstanding matters of concern have been addressed, and like the residents of the Gentry's Ward, I too may sleep soundly once more... Cheerless Hearer: You both have my heartfelt gratitude. May the Matron keep you wheresoever you should go.
Kupopo: Did you see how happy we made him? That's the power of pictomancy for you! Kupopo: And this is only the beginning! As part of your training, you and I shall travel near and far, searching for those in need just as Archon Relm once did! Kupopo: But you mustn't forget our promise, either. Before we take to the road, I'd like to see if the locals know anything about my friend... In the meantime, I bid you dedicate yourself to honing your skills, kupo!
