Obviously no natural formation, it is nevertheless unknown who carved this piece, or indeed, whose features it is meant to resemble. One thing is certain: the model would not find the depiction particularly flattering.

Additional Information
The name, shape and orientation of the face is a reference to the Cydonia rock formation on Mars. This formation gained widespread attention when it resembled a human face in photographs taken by the Viking 1 probe in 1976.
