A Culture Shared

From harvest festivals to parades marking the passage of the seaons, Eorzea has long been home to colorful local celebrations. It is not until the year 1470 of the Sixth Astral Era, however, that such traditions began to expand past their regional borders into the Eorzea-wide celebrations we know today.

With the Autumn War at its end, the era that followed was marked by peace and the proliferation of trade. Owing to the advent of the chocobo carriage, overland routes extended across the realm, and the adoption of gil as a common currency saw coin flow freely across national borders.

As wares and their peddlers began to roam, so too did culture. Ul'dah's great caravans brought not only supplies and sundries to distant lands, but tales of unfamiliar customs as well. For instance, Little Ladies' Day, celebrated in the sultanate since 1267, captured faraway hearts—and coinpurses—with its Legend of the Lost Lady. With both intellectual curiosity and economic interest driving their rise to prominence, it is little surprise that several once-local traditions became a source of shared joy throughout the realm, and proud symbols of Eorzean culture.

Seasonal Events are special occasions that occur at a particular time of the year. During these festivals, players can complete seasonal quests and obtain unique cosmetic items. Additionally, cities around Eorzea are decorated according to the themes of the events. Moonfire Faire, the first event in A Realm Reborn, takes place sometime in August.

Several of the regularly scheduled events also appeared (sometimes with the same names) in Final Fantasy XI, Square Enix's previous MMO. Examples include Valentione's Day, Doll Festival (Little Ladies' Day), Egg Hunt (Hatching-tide), and Starlight Celebration.

Seasonal event quest completion is associated with several achievements. Because these quests are limited-time, the achievements usually become unobtainable once the event has passed. Cosmetic rewards tied to these events (e.g. glamour sets, furniture, minions, etc.) are added to the cash shop prior to next year's iteration of the event.

The regularly scheduled events include:

January: Heavensturn

In-game, this generally includes depictions of animals from the zodiac, decorations such as kagami mochi, and an NPC offering omikuji (randomized fortunes on paper strips).

May: The Make It Rain Campaign

The Make It Rain Campaign

The Make It Rain Campaign is an annual event centered around The Gold Saucer.

The event increases MGP MGP rewards from most sources by 50%, stacking additively with MGP-increasing buffs. Uniquely, the MGP bonus from this event also affects Challenge Log rewards, which normal MGP buffs do not affect.

However, note that Make It Rain's bonus does not affect:

These events also feature a vendor that sells various MGP-costing glamour and furniture items at a 30-33% off discount. New MGP-purchaseable items, generally furniture, also may make their debut during the event.

June/July

No regularly scheduled special events.

August: Moonfire Faire

Moonfire Faire

The Moonfire Faire, formerly known as the Firefall Faire (during Legacy), is a seasonal event held during the northern hemisphere's summer season. It incorporates elements of the real life Japanese summer festival, Bon.

The Moonfire Faire features the appearance of a new themed area in the Isle of Endless Summer in Eastern La Noscea, near Costa del Sol. Historically, this themed area has contained an obstacle course and a tower with a challenging jumping puzzle. In 2025, a resort ship appeared in place of the wooden tower.

August/September: The Rising

The Rising

The Rising is the yearly anniversary event for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which released on August 27, 2013.

In-game, the Rising fairgrounds in each city usually feature an image of Dalamud in the sky, paired with a haunting version of the song Answers playing - mimicking similar conditions in the Legacy version of the game just before the fall of Dalamud. In other parts of the starting cities, celebratory fireworks can be seen lighting up the sky.

  • In 2025's event, Dalamud did not appear, and the song Prelude (otherwise known as the character select screen's music) played instead of Answers.

During the event quests each year, Naoki Yoshida appears as an NPC in-game and directly addresses the player character, while offering cryptic hints and thoughts about updates coming to the game over the next year.

October: All Saints' Wake

All Saints' Wake

All Saints' Wake is an annual holiday based on the real life holiday Halloween.

It frequently features a version of Haukke Manor styled like a haunted house, as well as an outdoor halloween party area, for players to take pictures in. An imp in the haunted house or the outdoor area can also apply a disguise to the player, giving them the appearance of various characters from Main Scenario Quest Main Scenario Quests or major Feature Quest Feature Quests, or the player character stand-ins from title screen cutscenes.

November

No regularly scheduled special events.

December: Starlight Celebration

Starlight Celebration

The Starlight Celebration is an annual holiday based on the real life holiday Christmas - specifically, interpretations involving Santa Claus.

Since 2024, Starlight Celebration events allow players to explore a Christmas market-themed area, the Starlight Stalls.

* Little Ladies' Day was combined with Valentione's Day in 2021 and with Hatching-tide in 2024.
