The Challenge Log contains a list of adventuring objectives across a wide range of categories. Completing any one of these objectives will earn you rewards such as gil and experience. Additional rewards can be earned for overall completion of the challenge log. Challenges can be performed on a weekly basis.
The weekly reset occurs every Tuesday at 8 a.m. GMT. The following list converts that for several time-zones and their respective daylight savings times (where applicable), though it is not all-encompassing.

Unlock
Players can unlock the Challenge Log by completing the level 15 quest 
Rising to the Challenge. Players can start the quest by talking to I'tolwann in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (x11.4, y11). Players must first complete the main scenario quest Call of the Sea for their starting city.
- Certain categories will remain locked until the corresponding feature is unlocked (Treasure Hunt, for example)
