  • Despite the ominous landscape and persistent echoes of thunder, Krile is determined to press on.
  • A cursory look around the levin-blasted landscape confirms that if civilization has survived on the Ninth, it is not to be found near the crater that once was Alexandria. Sphene suggests nearby Treno, a port city–state and hub of trade on the continent, as a likely location of survivors. However, due to the violent lightning storm that spans as far as the eye can see, the airship cannot make the journey. Though Clerk PX-0093 remains on standby should you need to fly back to Living Memory, henceforth, you must walk.

※In the event that you leave the area, you may returnby speaking with Clerk PX-0061 at leynode mnemo.
  • Sphene leads you to a nearby cave system that should provide passage through the mountains to Treno. From what you can see from the entrance, it does not appear to have suffered structural damage in the intervening time, so you and your companions prepare to sally forth into the darkness.

※To enlist your companion NPCs for this duty, speak with them near the entrance or access Duty Support via the main menu. Use the Duty Finder if you wish to complete the instance alongside fellow players.
  • Though the path was winding and arduous, you have found your way through the gates of Treno, and put down many a threat to the local populace besides. The glow of the city's lamps welcomes you to what apparently remains a thriving bastion of civilization.

※In the event that you leave the area, you may return from the Alexandria crater below Living Memory.
  • In the heart of Treno, you are greeted with cheerful thanks echoing through the local speaker system, followed by an equally cheerful greeting from the mayor, Miayli. The elder Milalla is concerned by the fate of Alexandria, and so Sphene and Y'shtola volunteer to tell her of all that has come to pass while the rest of your party explores the city. Miayli suggests you begin by speaking to her grandson, Lumull, who can put you to work aiding the townsfolk.
  • You find Lumull passing out some manner of herbal remedy called “Sleepless Rhapsody,” which he insists that you try. He is also strangely keen to see your face when you do...
  • After marshaling your courage and quaffing the face-puckering drink, you share a polite version of your impressions, as Krile and G'raha recall their past experiences facing similar trials. In short order, however, you learn that the remedy's benefits are worth tolerating the taste. Not only do you feel surprisingly refreshed, but Lumull also explains that Sleepless Rhapsody mitigates the deleterious effects of exposure to lightning aether, further noting that the recipe has been passed down by the Milalla for generations.
  • Now that he has had the opportunity to enjoy your reaction to Sleepless Rhapsody, Lumull finally remembers to introduce himself. Perhaps one day he will get around to giving you your work orders...

Dialogue

Accepting the quest

Krile: There are no structures, nor any other sign of survivors that I can see...
Sphene: I suspect the crater made this area unsuitable for habitation due to the increased risk of flooding.
Krile: Then we should look further afield. In which direction do you think we might find a settlement?
Sphene: If we're at the edge of Alexandrian territory now, the closest city would be Treno. Should it survive...
Sphene: As a city-state built on a harbor, it was a nexus of trade, and it remained neutral throughout the war. We Alexandrians always felt fortunate to have it in our neighborhood, so to speak.
Y'shtola: Not unlike our Radz–at–Han.
Sphene: Ah, yes! Alphinaud has spoken of Radz–at–Han before. It's near the south sea isles─the Milalla homeland, correct?
Sphene: Funnily enough, it was also Treno where the Milalla first found a home in our world.
Krile: Truly?
Sphene: Yes, and though the Milalla population elsewhere grew, most continued to feel a strong connection to the city. I'd like to think that some remain there to this day...
Sphene: Clerk PX-0093, is this ship capable of taking us to Treno?
Clerk PX-0093: I shall run a flight simulation for the route to Treno. One moment...
Clerk PX-0093: Simulation complete. There is a near one hundred percent probability that the ship would suffer catastrophic mechanical failure prior to arrival due to ambient lightning. My apologies!
Sphene: Oh... Well, thank you for checking.
G'raha Tia: If we cannot fly, then we shall have to walk.
Sphene: Treno lies beyond the mountains... But there should be routes that spare us having to climb.
Sphene: That cave system, for instance─assuming it hasn't collapsed. Let's try there first.

Optional Dialogue

Y'shtola: Eager though I am to seek new discoveries, the prospect of walking in circles for days on end does not appeal. We are fortunate to have Sphene.
Krile: The place where my people first arrived─and I shall soon see it in person!
G'raha Tia: Of late, I've spent much of my time hunched over reports. A brisk trek across a wasteland shall make for a refreshing change of pace.

Speak with Sphene

Sphene: This tunnel appears intact...
Sphene: Though we have no way of knowing what it's like further in.
Sphene: Mind you stay alert for beasts, as well. Given the barren surrounds, they're surely ravenous...
Q: What will you do?
> Small talk.
> Form a party and enter Mistwake.
> Nothing.
Y'shtola: Whatever lies ahead shall give us more insight into the state of the Ninth.
Krile: I am anxious and hopeful in equal measure. 'Tis a strange feeling...
G'raha Tia: There should be little reason for anyone to have passed this way since Alexandria's displacement. Let us pray loose rocks are the worst we must contend with.
Sphene: I speak so confidently of the Milalla's connection to Treno because my tutor, Tuphut, hailed from the city. Another reason to hope it has survived...
===Post-dungeon voiced cutscene===
Exuberant Voice: And the perimeter is clear! Good work, everyone!
Exuberant Voice: And a big “thank you” to our helpers─whoever you are!
Exuberant Voice: Now, we have a tiny bit of clearing up ahead of us. You know what to do!
Krile: “Our helpers”? W-Were we being watched?
Y'shtola: So the city endures. And it is in much better shape than expected.
G'raha Tia: Impressive, considering the destruction without.
G'raha Tia: The people here must have gone to great lengths to maintain all of this.
Sphene: Their barrier resembles that of Alexandria, though it is smaller in scale.
Sphene: And not quite as effective, if the breach we witnessed is any indication. I fear such incidents may be common here.
???: Thunderous heavens! It's been years since we've had visitors!
Miayli: I am Miayli, the mayor of Treno. Allow me to welcome you to our city! And thank you for the assistance with our little monster problem just now.
Miayli: Might I ask your name, miss? Though I have an inkling I know it already...
Sphene: But of course. I am Sphene, of Alexandria.
Miayli: As I thought. It truly beggars belief...
Miayli: I once heard the strangest of reports from one of ours who went to Alexandria, you see. That despite the intervening years, the queen had not aged a day.
Miayli: And sure enough, I'd swear you'd stepped out of an old oil portrait mere moments ago! You must forgive me if this takes some getting used to.
Miayli: It is an honor to meet you, Your Majesty. I look forward to hearing the tale from your own lips.
Miayli: I imagine it won't be an easy one to tell. But please...
Miayli: What happened to Alexandria?
Sphene: I see... From your perspective, it must have looked as though we were wiped from the face of the star.

Miayli: One day, we lost all contact with our people in Alexandria.
Miayli: A scouting party sent to investigate reported that not only the barrier, but Alexandria itself was gone. Nary a stone to mark where it had stood...
Sphene: What you must have gone through, not knowing what became of us...
Sphene: But know that Alexandria yet survives, albeit in a distant land. Her and her people.
Sphene: I can tell you the whole tale from beginning to end. But first, might I ask your permission to remain in Treno for a time?
Miayli: Of course you can! You and your companions have already done us a great service, and are more than welcome to enjoy our hospitality.
Miayli: Now, how about we continue this at town hall? We needn't keep standing in the middle of the street.
Y'shtola: I shall join them. Even with the precautions we've taken, it remains to be seen if Sphene's condition will remain stable.
Y'shtola: I suspect, however, that the rest of you would rather be out and about. Consider this my blessing.
G'raha Tia: In light of our purpose here, a tour of the city is indeed in order.
Krile: I presume you have no objection?
Krile: With your permission, then. Ah, but before we go...
Krile: Allow me to introduce myself as well. I am Krile, and I hope to learn more of this city and its people.
Krile: Would it offend if we were to ask a few questions? Perhaps as we work alongside you, aiding you in whatever ways you may require?
Miayli: You needn't fret─Treno folk are as friendly as they come. As for aid...
Miayli: If you're willing, you might speak with my grandson, Lumull─that was his voice you heard earlier. You'll find him serving herbal remedies to the others.
Krile: Thank you for your guidance! We shall seek him out first.
Krile: That must be Lumull. Heavens, I can smell the herbal aroma from here...
G'raha Tia: None of the locals we've passed appear terribly distressed. As Sphene surmised, incursions must be a common occurrence.
Lumull: Why, if it isn't our new friends! Thanks again for making short work of our foes.
Lumull: If you've gone to the trouble of seeking me out, I can only assume it's for good reason!
Lumull: You want to help me? Odd, but I'll consider it. Before anything else, though...
Lumull: I must insist you drink our signature remedy, Sleepless Rhapsody! Everyone's a fan.
Lumull: You may find it the teensiest touch too sour for your tastes, but it'll set you aright. Just tip it down your throat...
Krile: Is this custom meant to raise the townsfolk's spirits after a trying event? Does it serve some ritual function?
Krile: He seems awfully keen on our partaking...
G'raha Tia: Surely we can survive a simple beverage. Surely...
Lumull: It won't hurt, you have my word. But since it's your first cup, maybe don't stray too far before you drink it.
Lumull: Oh, and don't turn your back! For...best results, you understand.
System: It would seem you have no recourse but to drink the remedy whilst Lumull stands as witness...
Krile: I see how drinking that would be...unifying. And it is impressive that they have maintained the tradition here, so far from the Milalla's native lands.
G'raha Tia: Given its ability to counteract lightning's influence on the body, that remedy could be of use to the people of Alexandria as well. I am certain Lumull would be more than happy to offer it to them...
Lumull: <gasp> ...I forgot to introduce myself, didn't I?
Lumull: Well, I'm Lumull. That was me announcing our victory earlier. And since Grandmother sent you to help with repairs, you'll know I'm her grandson.
Lumull: I'm in charge of resolving any problems the people of Treno may have. My favorite kinds of work include taste-testing menu items, carrying medium-sized objects, searching for lost possessions of immense value...
Lumull: Oh! And it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
System: You may now enter Mistwake with a party of NPC avatars. To make use of this feature, open the Trust interface located under Duty in the main menu.

Cutscene 2

Lumull: Well, what do you think? It's a traditional Milalla recipe!
Lumull: That means it's working!
Lumull: Hahahaha! Got that right! Don't worry─the tingling means it's working.
Lumull: No need to pretend─I'm not that thin-skinned. Just do your best to keep it down!
Krile: I'm put in mind of the gelatin I had at the Studium... “Nutritious,” they assured me...
Krile: You know, Raha... Going to bed at a reasonable hour would be the best cure.
G'raha Tia: I can relate all too well...
G'raha Tia: It's not unlike the syrup Lyna used to make. Black as pitch, and sour as sin... Though there's no better cure for fatigue.
Krile: Oh! That's...hm. I do feel shockingly refreshed.
Krile: ...Which is why you serve it whenever there's a breach in the barrier.
G'raha Tia: Perhaps it stimulates the body's ability to process aether and hastens regenerative functions?
Lumull: Indeed it does! It also counteracts some of the effects of excess lightning, and helps to calm the nerves besides.
Lumull: Our Milalla ancestors came from the lushest of lands, so they developed all sorts of natural remedies. We strive to carry on their traditions.
Lumull: ...And I'm sure you see why! Really hits the spot, doesn't it?
Lumull: Now, welcome to Treno!
