The Tyrant: My successor... Come all this way to see how the man you defeated fares?
The Tyrant: I care not, for I am satisfied with the outcome of our battle. I learned firsthand how dependent I'd become on the power of feral souls.
The Tyrant: And through our clash, I realized I would never reach your strength through ordinary training. That is why I hunt again─only by pursuing greater threats will I ascend to greater heights.

Lore

Once, Arkose had exterminated fiends for a living. Highly proficient with all manner of armaments, he swiftly gained a reputation as one of Alexandria's greatest hunters─and greatest killjoys. Following successful campaigns against monster proliferation, he eschewed merrymaking with his cohorts, preferring to hone his skill with a new weapon rather than fall into his cups. The invitations ceased after he ignored and outright refused enough, and Arkose would have been hard-pressed to name a single friend.^[1]

Despite this, Arkose did not feel loneliness or seek company. He held the belief that company was for the weak. Arkose's only motivation was to discover how mighty he could become. To that end, he would go to any lengths, master any art, harness the power of any soul. Day in and day out, he held fast to his creed and trained.^[1]

He was deep in practice with a new scythe, out in the Thunderyards, when the Ascension Arcadia President approached him with an offer to join the Arcadion. Though Arkose initially refused, he was convinced to join out of a desire to feel truly challenged in a battle. Arkose made his debut as the Arcadion's up-and-coming babyface, Masked Justice. He defeated opponent after opponent, quickly climbing the rankings while enjoying the thrill of battle the Arcadion had to offer. ^[1]

Despite his impressive victories, Masked Justice failed to garner popularity due to the fact Arkose did not perform, only focusing on his opponent and doing nothing to charm the crowd. In the ring, he provided poor performances of entertainment and delivered lines clumsily. Out of the ring, he had a dry demeanor when interacting with interviewers. Masked Justice was sold as a mysterious hero with an insatiable thirst for righteousness─but spectators found him emotionless at best and frustratingly overpowered at worst.^[1]

Masked Justice climbed the tiers until he could climb no further─but the audience's endorsement still eluded him. When he defeated the former grand champion and became the new grand champion of the Arcadion. Arkose had triumphed, but the truths that had defined his world were unraveling. He held a fundamental belief that the strong are above the weak─a belief now challenged by the audiences rejection of him and love for the previous champion.^[1]

Due to his upset towards the situation, Arkose attempted to resign from the Arcadion. He was convinced by the president to remain, reassured by the president that he still had more to offer than just violence and strength. This moment of kindness led Arkose to have an epiphany, as well as gaining the president his trust.^[1]

His epiphany, however, was followed shortly by tragedy. For the former grand champion and other veteran fighters of the Arcadion were struck down in succession by psychonekrosis. With this, the president hid himself away, only to return later as the Lindwurm. The president delivered the ultimatum to Arkose that he must slay the Lindwurm and use its heart to develop the cure for psychonekrosis. Arkose refused, deeming the act unconscionable. He demanded alternatives from Origenics, but no other solution was found.^[1]

Reluctantly, Arkose attempted to slay the Lindwurm. Despite attacking the Lindwurm with all his strength, he ultimately was unable to discover even a hint of how to defeat his opponent. For the first time in his life, Arkose tasted defeat.^[1]

From that day forward, the Akrose oversaw the secret mission of the Arcadion's quest to cure psychonekrosis. His role was the final examiner of all aspiring challengers , the grand champion: Masked Justice. Arkose took his new duty seriously. As one who had been subjected to the Lindwurm's unbelievable power, he knew that any who could not best him would be useless to the cause. His concerns for his public image withered. His only focus was to cull the Arcadion of weakness, and he showed no mercy to those who faced him. Despite this, Masked Justice continued to be unpopular with the audiences.^[1]

During a breaking point for the audience after they began to boo him, Arkose became enraged and tore off his mask. He yelled at the audience with an unadulterated rage. With this act, the mysterious and righteous hero was no more. Tyrant. The word began being chanted by the audience. His strength had been begrudged. His false identity had been rejected. Yet the moment he had revealed his genuine anger and arrogance, his true star rose.That day, Masked Justice vanished. In his place emerged a dictatorial heel who suffered not the insult of lesser fighters. The Tyrant.^[1]

Arkose embraced his role as villain. His open disdain and unyielding might kindled hatred within the fighters who vied to usurp him, sheer spite demanding they train harder and grow stronger. For an irony, it was this very loathing that garnered Arkose the renown he had yearned for. The Tyrant became an icon of the Arcadion, and crowds roared whenever he took to the ring. The despised despot drove the audience into a frenzy Masked Justice never had.^[1]

Many challenged the Tyrant, but none bested him. When Arkose himself began experiencing symptoms of psychonekrosis, he knew he had little time left, but he fought on regardless.^[1]

Then appeared the unenhanced warrior. The Tyrant fought with all his strength In the fight for Arcadion's throne, utilizing every advantage at his disposal as he tested the challenger's readiness for the battle to come. Ultimately, he was defeated.^[1]

With psychonekrosis later cured due to the unenhanced warriors triumph and soon after departure, he remained the de facto grand champion. While visiting the presidents grave, he decided that he would continue to play his part. So long as fighters continued to honor the president's dream for the Arcadion, he would be the unscrupulous villain for valiant heroes to overcome.^[1]
