The Landsguard looks relieved to see you.

Journal

  • The Landsguard looks relieved to see you.
  • The Landsguard is pleased to report the woods remain quiet, and his men remain on high alert in the event new echoes appear. He goes on to tell you that Kikwezana has finished his tests and is ready to share his findings. Assuming you wish to be privy to the results, the Landsguard urges you to go and meet with Prishe and the others at the outskirts.
  • An examination of Prishe and Alxaal has shown that, while Alxaal's core shows no signs of serious damage, Prishe is at risk of disappearing should she find herself in harm's way again. Unfortunate news made all the more terrible when Kikwezana receives word of a possible echo sighting in Mamook. You waste no time in heading back.
  • You arrive in Mamook to find a number of slain enemies that are indeed echoes. Among their remains you find an invitation from none other than Sareel Ja. He invites you once more to Jeuno, claiming a vessel for his king has at last been decided. Because there are also echoes yet running rampant to the south, however, Bakool Ja Ja elects to remain with the Landsguard. This leaves you, Alxaal, and Prishe to go and confront Sareel Ja in Jeuno.
  • Sareel Ja has set the stage for what appears to be your final encounter, and while Prishe is all too eager to give him a sound thrashing, Alxaal insists she stay put, lest her electrope core be fractured any further. She reluctantly agrees, leaving you and Alxaal to brave a gauntlet of echoes.
※Windurst: The Third Walk can be accessed via the Duty Finder.
  • You and Alxaal remain undaunted as you brave a number of strange landscapes, each home to powerful echoes. The journey culminates in a battle against the god Shinryu, said to have brought ruin to the twin of Vana'diel. With help from Alxaal, and the unexpected arrival of Prishe, you prove triumphant.
  • With the “perfect vessel” defeated, and the Shade of Gulool Ja Ja himself gone as well, Sareel Ja elects to retreat. Before you can apprehend him, he disappears through a portal, abandoning Jeuno for the woods of Yak T'el.
  • Rather than potentially run headlong into danger, Alxaal suggests regrouping with Bakool Ja Ja. Perhaps he and the Landsguard will be able to help track Sareel Ja down.

Dialogue

Accepting the quest

Welcome back, Forename. You'll be happy to know the guard remains on high alert in the event any echoes appear in Yak T'el.
As of now, there have been no reported sightings. We did, however, recently receive a missive from Kikwezana.
He's finished conducting his tests with Prishe and requests an audience. Bakool Ja Ja has already left to meet with him.
I can only assume you wish to be present to hear the results, so I would suggest you make for the outskirts at once.
Optional dialogue
I expect Kikwezana is waiting for your arrival to share the results of his research, so best not to keep them waiting overlong.

Speak with Kikwezana in the outskirts.

Optional dialogue
I thought you might come. You're just in time to hear what Kikwezana's learned of Alxaal and Prishe.
There's still a lot I'd like to see, both in and outside of the dome, but first I've got to know what Kikwezana's found out.
Kikwezana was a most hospitable host during our time in Solution Nine. The dining establishments he took us to were most unusual, but the meals were surprisingly delicious.
Start of cutscene.
Thank you all for coming.
So, what have you learned?
After a thorough examination of Prishe and Alxaal, we discovered that... Erm...
Spit it out, already! You've made your point that we're not really living. How bad could it be?
Yes, as you say. You are indeed artificial life-forms, each possessed of an electrope core.
Were said cores to be damaged, it would become increasingly difficult to maintain your form, until eventually you dissipate. This much you already know.
And...? What is the present state of said cores?
While Alxaal's core shows signs of wear, there is no significant damage. I don't expect it will break apart any time soon.
Prishe's core, on the other hand, is... Well... To be blunt, it's a wonder you hadn't already blinked out of existence.
We used all the electrope tricks we had to mend the worst of the cracks...
But it has been mended, yes?
Her core should hold itself together...so long as she remains out of harm's way. Another strong shock to the body is all it would take for it to fall to pieces.
It'll be fine, I won't overdo it. Wouldn't want to miss all the adventuring we still have left to do, right?
And I couldn't imagine going on without you. We are comrades born of memories from the same home, after all. Even if those I can recall are few and far between.
Ah, that's right. You're always so quick to share what you do recall, it's easy to overlook how much you've forgotten.
Yes, Bakool Ja Ja is right here.
There's been an attack in Mamook─strange creatures the Landsguard are unable to identify.
Echoes, in all likelihood.
The sentries there will need reinforcements. Let's hurry!
End of cutscene.
Optional dialogue
Born from another world not truly her own, and she may never even live to see it. Truly, fate is a cruel mistress.
And yet, the twinkle in their eyes as they walk about Solution Nine suggests nothing of such hardship.
I pray this is all resolved soon. I'd very much like to hear more of their adventures here and elsewhere.

Speak with the Landsguard sentry in Mamook.

Start of cutscene.
Bakool Ja Ja! Ah, and you've brought the others with you.
You've all done well to hold the line.
What will you say: What will you say?
Ananta...? Here?
So you've seen this manner of creature before? Not here in Tural, surely. But how─or why─would they find their way here?
Echoes... So that other world is home to these “Ananta” as well.
These have to be echoes, right?
Well, I've certainly never seen or heard of such creatures in Tural before.
I...I remember these fiends... In Vana'diel we call them “Lamiae.” Their cunning is matched only by their ferocity.
But thankfully not cunning or ferocious enough to overcome our Landsguard.
The situation is a little more complicated than that, I'm afraid... Allow me to explain.
We were standing guard when an army of these snake creatures appeared as if out of nowhere, surrounding us in an instant.
Their numbers were beyond count. Had they pressed their attack any further, they could have easily overpowered us and besieged Mamook.
Just as all hope seemed lost, a strange mage arrived─barely a child, judging by her size─and felled the army with a single spell.
Then she vanished before we could so much as ask her name or offer thanks.
If I didn't know better, I'd say they were describing Krile, but are her magicks that destructive?
We also retrieved this letter from the enemy's remains.
Dearest Champion,
It is with great pleasure that I inform you a vessel for the king has at last been chosen.
To that end, I have sent forth this celebratory military procession. I hope that it proves to your liking.
You are hereby invited to return to Jeuno for the coming coronation ceremony.
Invited. Hmph. As if he wasn't planning to release more echoes should we refuse.
There are continued skirmishes to the south even as we speak, but I fear it's simply a battle of attrition...
While I'd love to be the one that gives Sareel Ja a sound thrashing, my place is with the Landsguard.
You seem to have a knack for passing on information. Your job will be to outline the current situation to the soldiers when they return.
Right, then! Let's go and kick Sareel Ja's scaly arse!
Don't forget what Kikwezana said. If it looks like things are taking a turn for the worse, get out of there.
End of cutscene.
Optional dialogue
The Landsguard will be fine with Bakool Ja Ja helping to hold the line. Hurry and see to Sareel Ja.
You be sure to give Sareel Ja a sound thrashing for the both of us, you hear?

Speak with Prishe in Jeuno.

Optional dialogue
Strange... I don't recall this being here before.
Start of cutscene.
Look─another one of those portals. Maybe he decided to cut to the chase and get straight to the fighting.
Perhaps. But Sareel Ja struck me as the sort who enjoyed hearing himself talk.
So, someone did force their way in. I assumed you lot had simply grown impatient.
Thieves, then? No. Such a feat is beyond the petty bandits wandering Yak T'el.
I suppose it doesn't matter in the end. Whoever they are, their fate was sealed the moment they set foot within my domain.
Enough with all the prattling! You're clearly no match for Forename, so why not just turn yourself in to the Landsguard?
Did you not read my letter? I have found a vessel worthy of our one true king.
He who first incited conflict in the lands of Vana'diel. This adventurer has no chance against such a primordial being.
Gehehehe! Very good, Sareel Ja. Finally... Finally, we will have the power we need to rule.
Rule Vana'diel, yes. But have we need of subjects in this world? Or should we simply slaughter them all?
So long as we draw breath, you will not bring harm to this world or any other!
Hahaha! I thought you might say as much. I'd expect nothing less from a man who's─
Ah, perhaps that's better left unsaid.
What are you hiding? What have you learned of who I am?
As for you, Forename, never fear. When my echoes have finished with these appetizers, I've no doubt they will take their time on their main dish.
So let us not waste any more time. To commemorate this auspicious occasion, and the coming of our king, a veritable feast of powerful foes awaits.
I should hope you'll survive long enough to grovel at the feet of our new ruler.
That bastard... Didn't even acknowledge I was here. Next time I see him, I'll make sure he never forgets this face─or my fists!
You'll be doing no such thing, or have you already forgotten Kikwezana's warning? Leave this fight to us. Please...
Fine... But don't you go and do anything reckless, you hear me?

Windurst: The Third Walk now accessible

End of cutscene.
Optional dialogue
Whatever he claims to know of me, it matters not. His plans to defile the memories of Vana'diel end here.
A “primordial being”? No, he couldn't have...

Enter Windurst: The Third Walk.

Windurst

Start of voiced cutscene.
End of cutscene.
What echoes has Sareel Ja conjured this time, I wonder?
The Great Star Tree? This must be Windurst Walls...

Dais of Ascension (boss 1)

Shantotto!?
What's this? More vermin come to play?
I'll put you down without delay.
The renowned wizard and demon of the Federation... How has he conjured such a terrible echo?
You've no recourse but to cower before my true power!
Refuse to obey and I'll make you pay!
Before we're through, you'll learn there's nothing I can't do!
Have care! There's no telling what she'll conjure next.
A comrade is down, but we mustn't give up! Quickly—someone revive them!
For my next feat, let's turn up the heat!
What are you plotting, witch!?
I'm no saint, so don't expect restraint!
My patience is through—and now so are you!
Very well...
Ohohohoho!
Dammit! Is everyone all right?
No matter where you run, I'll still have my fun!
You sense a powerful gale approaches...
Surrender I'll allow, if you but give up now.
Your offenses demand consequences!
If the entire alliance dodges the second Diagrammatic Doorway sequence
Ohoho! You catch on fast!
Just like a pupil from my past!
Otherwise
Ohoho! Too slow, fear!
You never stood a chance, my dear!
I shall snuff your flame out—another swift rout!
I fear we'll not survive this without powerful healing magicks.
Such potent healing! My thanks!

After the fight

She was...a doll?
You've prove a match for my magicked doll... Perhaps you have merit, after all.

Al Zahbi

By Altana, this looks like Aht Urhgan.
Aht Urhgan Guard
Al Zahbi is under attack!
Under attack!?
Aht Urhgan Guard
The enemy has breached the Balrahn Defense Line! They march on the Imperial capital!
The city has been besieged! Make ready—the enemy will soon be upon us.
Salaheem's Sentinel
Damned beastmen!
Time to get to work!
The Galeserpent General's counting on us!
We must hold the line!
Time for a little subtle sorcery.
Leave the healing to me!
Reinforcements!
And now the fight begins in earnest!
Well, well... Look at all these adorable two-legs...
Come, dance with me, mortals!
Their leader has finally shown themself.

After the fight

It would appear the siege has ended.
Salaheem's Sentinel
Is everyone all right?
Phew! Glad that's over!
That was a little too close...
Everyone all right? Then let's go eat!
Where is Sareel Ja hiding?

Alzadaal Undersea Ruins (boss 2)

Are these not the undersea ruins of Alzadaal?
It can't be... The light divinity!
I...am...Alexander...
The meek...shall be rewarded...
The defiant...shall be judged...
Alexander. So we meet again...
Thy sin...shall be cleansed...by righteous fire...
How is it an echo can match the resilience of Alexander?
Offer thy worship...
I shall burn away...thy transgressions...
My divine flames...shall melt thy flesh...sear thy bones...unshackle thy soul...
Open thine eyes...
My radiance...shall guide thee...
I am immutable...indestructible...impervious...immortal...
I'd expect nothing less of such a deity.
Wish for eternity...yearn for immortality...
Sense thy transience...know thy insignificance...
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
Still standing in the face of His judgment. Well done!
A comrade is down! Someone revive them!
A comrade is in trouble! Someone heal them!

After the fight

Well, if even the stalwart defenses of Alexander cannot stop us, I say we press on!

The Garden of Ru'Hmet

The Garden of Ru'Hmet? Then that means...
That's the last of them.
There is no foe Sareel Ja can conjure that I have not already vanquished.

Empyreal Paradox (boss 3)

The Twilight God? Here!? Sareel Ja, you bastard... You'll pay dearly for this.
We stand now before the very father of creation... Hold nothing back.
Who... Who calleth my name...?
What in the world?
The Emptiness threatens to spread.
The reign of Twilight is inevitable...
Bear unto them...my essence...
Urgh!
Thine arrogant heart shall be mine...
The darkness... It's growing...
This place is... it's been swallowed by the Emptiness, the darkness of man's heart made manifest.
He means to use the darkness in my heart against us!?
No... I won't...give in!
Thine own weakness betrays thee...
O Altana, I beg your grace once more.
If the party fails the DPS check
Our farewell shall be...forever.
It's too late...

The party wipes and the battle resets.

Otherwise, if they pass the check
So long as I hold faith in my comrades, and they in me, darkness shall find no purchase in my heart.
O darkness...
It's taking the darkness into itself!
Our farewell shall be...forever.
The Twilight God could never... What has Sareel Ja done?
Desire...for the Emptiness...
A comrade is down! Someone revive them!
Yearn... Desire... Hunger...for the end of mortality.
Careful, lest the darkness take you.
O star...descend from the heavens...I beseech thee...
A fate...decided...
A comrade is in trouble! Someone heal them!

After the fight

Gahahaha! You have done well, but you will go no further! Come forth!
Start of voiced cutscene.
You can worry about how I caught up to you later. We've got a dragon to slay!
C'mon, we'll be fine. Aren't we always?
Yes...yes, I finally remember. Who I was. Who I am.
Let us be done with Sareel Ja and his schemes. Our journey's end awaits—and with luck, a new beginning...
End of cutscene.

Abyssean Empyreal Paradox (boss 4)

Shinryu... The divine dragon that brought ruin to Vana'diel's twin.
So "world destroyer" wouldn't be an exaggeration for this one? Well that's just wonderful...
Your dark resistance has been reduced...
Your light resistance has been reduced...
Aether running through the floor threatens to explode!
Oh, oh no—someone's down! Can anyone revive them?
Never though I'd see a god that'd give Promathia a run for his money.
Promathia assumed this form after its resurrection, though I suppose you would have no way of knowing.
Shinryu has already brought ruin to one world... We cannot let it come to another.
Not a chance! Let's kick this thing's scaly arse!
What the hell was that!?
Start of voiced cutscene.
Has Sareel Ja finally prepared the "vessel"" for his king?

The shade of Gulool Ja Ja is absorbed into Shinryu Paradox.

Did...did he just...?

Shinryu Paradox transforms into the Hollow King.

Mwahahaha! You have done well, Sareel Ja!
This world is mine to conquer. Mine to rule forevermore!
End of cutscene.
O sacred flame from beyond...
Become my blade, and consign my foes to ash!
Everyone! With me!
Urgh!
Alxaal, stop! That's enough!
Ahhhhhh!
Insolence! You dare defy me!?
Alxaal! Alxaal!!!
Don't you worry about me, Prishe... I'll see this adventure to its conclusion.
Face the king's judgment!
My word is absolute!
Oh, that looks like it hurt. Hang in there...
I will not be denied!
My word is absolute!

Post-duty pop-ups

Phew! Glad I made it in time!
It all makes sense now...

Post-duty cutscene

Start of cutscene.
You weren't supposed to be here.
What, and miss out on all the fun? My gut told me something was wrong, so I leapt through the portal. Next thing I knew, I found you on the ground and a giant dragon looming over our heads.
I know I'm pushing my luck, but I'm glad I was able to help.
Indeed you did. In fact, I daresay your presence is what turned the tide in our favor.
My king, no... How could this happen? You had the perfect vessel─the power of a god at your command!
If it was perfect, then why do their corpses not lay at my feet!? I need a new vessel. A stronger vessel!
Shinryu only came to be when Promathia, the Twilight God, sought ever greater power. It slew their world's greatest champion and brought ruin to the world... To find a stronger vessel will be no easy feat.
Your victory over Promathia alongside your adventurer companion was but one of countless possibilities.
Like Shinryu, and the death of Vana'diel's twin...
How can you be so certain?
The battle against Shinryu. Seeing you there, it all came back to me.
Both memories of a world where heroes prevailed over Promathia...and another where you alone survived an encounter with Shinryu.
Preposterous, I know. Yet now it all makes sense... I finally remember who I am. What I am.
The memories that echo within that rift between worlds—from past and future alike, from adventurers of our world and those not our own—somehow intertwined and coalesced into the man who stands before you.
Meaning you share the memories of my friend, too? Well that explains how you remember so much about me.
We are not to be ignored!
Sareel Ja, quickly! I need healing! Before it's...too late... I need...more...!

The Shade of Gulool Ja Ja dissipates.

This place is... It's vanishing!

Back in Jeuno

Looks like we're back in Jeuno.
No...
It can't end like this! I won't let it!!!
I need only return to the Walk of Echoes to find another world. Another champion worthy of my cause!

Sareel Ja flees. Prishe and Alxaal run after him, but he teleports away.

Where do you think you're going!?
You're finished, Sareel Ja!

Shantotto observes the party.

End of cutscene.
Optional dialogue
We have to go after Sareel Ja!

Speak with Alxaal.

Sareel Ja may have gotten away, but he has clearly grown desperate.
Best we hurry back to Bakool Ja Ja, and consider how best to track the fiend down, before he has time to recover.
The memories sleeping in Jeuno stir. Perhaps the Hume adventurer has new knowledge to share with you.
