Shiosai is the twenty-seven-year-old high priest of Shisui of the Violet Tides. Possessing mastery over water magicks, he sealed away the palace when wraiths overran its halls. If the ward should fail, he was prepared to see everything and everyone drowned, even the Ruby Princess, and thence atone for the deed with his life. Such a grim resolve bespeaks his serious disposition despite his relative youth. Duty never far from his mind, he wars a perpetual frown and is given to stern silences, though gossip attributes this to some manner of stomach ailment. On the rare occasions the Raen priest allows himself a moment's respite-most certainly at his liege's insistence-he is said to play the flute. Though believed to be a virtuoso of the instrument, he admits no audience and none save his pet otter, Isobe, can attest to his skills. The princess's recent interest in the outside world has given Shiosai more cares with which to contend.
