Nymian legends tell of a monstrous shark that walks the land on two legs. It seems these tales were true, yet even the most lurid failed to capture the sheer terror of encountering such a creature.

— In-game description

Shark Attack is a Critical Encounter spawned in The Occult Crescent: South Horn.

Rewards

Guide

  • Marine Mayhem: Party-wide magical damage and inflicts a 9-second cleansable dropsy damage-over-time.
  • Pelagic Cleaver (no cast bar): Several untargetable adds will spawn outside of the arena, evenly spaced. They will each sequentially spawn a telegraphed frontal conal AoE in a clockwise or counterclockwise orientation. There will be eight AoEs in total.
  • Dive: The boss will become untargetable, while three targetable Petalodus Progeny adds will spawn, which should be defeated.
  • Tidal Guillotine: While the adds are active, the boss will mark three random locations on the arena in sequence, denoting the epicenters of massive late telegraphed circle AoEs. This attack will also be used later on in the encounter. Eventually, the boss will mark one location on the arena edge, use an AoE there, and become targetable again.
  • Open Water: Spawns two "exaflare" circle AoE telegraphs, one at the edge, and the other one opposite and slightly inwards. These denote the spawn locations of circle AoEs that will rotate in the direction of the arrow. Being hit will not inflict any debuffs but will result in unnecessary damage. While these AoEs are still going off, the eight Pelagic Cleavers from the untargetable adds will be used again.
  • Hydrocleave: The boss faces a random player and uses a late telegraphed frontal cleave AoE.
  • Mechanics repeat from this point forward. Tidal Guillotine will now be used by an add instead of the boss, but functions identically.

Trivia

The English name of this Critical Encounter is a reference to the early 1990s board game Shark Attack!, in which participants must continuously move on the outer edge of a circle to avoid attacks from a shark, similar to a mechanic seen in this Critical Encounter.
