Noxious Gnash
Damage taken from the viper who applied this effect is increased.
— In-game description
Noxious Gnash is a detrimental status effect that could be applied by
vipers. It increased damage taken from the
viper who applied the effect.
The actions that could apply Noxious Gnash were:
- Reaving Fangs, formerly known as "Dread Fangs".
- Reaving Maw, formerly known as "Dread Maw".
- Vicewinder, formerly known as "Dreadwinder".
- Vicepit, formerly known as "Pit of Dread".
These aforementioned actions applied Noxious Gnash for 20 seconds, up to 40 seconds. It increased damage taken from the
viper who applied the effect by 10%, similar to
reaper's Death's Design. Both actions were reworked in patch 7.05 to no longer apply Noxious Gnash to reduce stress and management during rotations.[1]
Noxious Gnash can still be applied in PvP modes through the execution of World-swallower (PvP). It increases damage taken by the
viper who applied the effect by 25% for 12 seconds.

- ↑ https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/jobguide/adjustments/, We've received feedback that viper's unique combo system, and the managing of its combo routes, have proven relatively difficult to handle compared to other melee DPS jobs. We believe one of the reasons for this has to do with the action Dread Fangs and its status effect Noxious Gnash─more specifically, finding the most opportune time to reapply and maintain this effect on enemies. To address this issue, we've removed Noxious Gnash and replaced it with Honed Steel and Honed Reavers, effects that are applied to self. With this change, players should be able to more freely choose the timing with which they use their associated actions. This also necessitated further changes to potency, as we endeavor to maintain balance between melee and ranged DPS jobs.
