Hailing from the lower forests of Yak T'el, the Mamool Ja are divided into three distinctive clans, each possessed of singular talents: the Hoobigo, Boonewa, and Doppro. Once, the Mamool Ja fought bitterly with the people of the Xbr'aal, but after the establishment of Tuliyollal, many chose a life of peace within the city instead.

The Mamool Ja are a non-playable race first introduced in A Realm Reborn. They are a major focus of the Dawntrail expansion. They hail from the understory of the Yak T'el jungle of Yok Tural to the far west. In Eorzea, a group of Mamool Ja are most commonly spotted selling their mercenary services on the isle of Vylbrand.

Physical Characteristics

The nation of Mamool Ja is comprised of a number of distinctly related clans, each of which exhibit distinct physical characteristics. The Hoobigo are marked by light-brown scales and a longer comb than their kin, and their brute strength often places them in the ranks of melee infantry. In contrast, the large-eyed Boonewa are born with deep reservoirs of aether, and these natural spellcasters are soon identified by the blue-green tinge of their scales. Lastly, there are the mottled Doppro, whose bloodline produces skilled beast handlers and cavalry riders.

Rarely, two-headed Mamool Ja known as "blessed siblings" arise from a Hoobigo mating with a Boonewa. Blessed siblings grow to be significantly larger and are highly proficient in both physical combat and magic. Each of its two heads may have distinct personalities. It is also possible for one its heads to die while the other continues to live for several years.

Diet

As omnivores, Mamool Ja eat a rich and varied diet. Finely ground cornmeal is a staple of their larder, and this is kneaded and baked before being used to wrap all manner of seasonal fillings. The poor fertility of the Ja Tiika Heartland, the ancestral homeland of the Mamool Ja, have limited their diet to crops that can survive in those conditions, such as the blue Ja Tiika Banana.

History

The Mamool Ja inhabit the city of Mamook in Yak T'el. Ketenramm, an intrepid adventurer and explorer, returned from this city with tales of their blessed sibling king-the Autarch-whose rule binds the disparate tribes into a singular society.

For much of their history, the Mamool Ja have warred with the Xbr'aal inhabiting the upper regions of Yak T'el for land dominance. Eighty years ago, the blessed siblings Gulool Ja Ja brokered a peace agreement between the Xbr'aal and Mamool Ja and founded the nation of Tuliyollal, where much of the Mamool Ja inhabiting Mamook moved to. A small population of Mamool Ja remained in their ancestral city where they continued to be resentful to outsiders.

Society and Culture

The diverse people of the Mamool Ja seldom marry outside their own tribes. This unspoken rule is broken, however, when members of different tribes are wed during the observance of certain religious ceremonies, in particular between the Hoobigo with the Boonewa. Such unions occasionally result in two-headed offspring, and these "blessed siblings" are groomed for leadership from the moment they are born. Due to their strength, the generation of blessed siblings has historically been ingrained in Mamool Ja culture as critical for their survival. However, this comes at a great cost, as only 1% of Mamool Ja offspring bred in this way survive. The deceased offspring are remembered in the Skydeep Cenote cenotaph, which contains hundreds to thousands of submerged urns containing the remains of the offspring.

Upon reaching maturity, two-headed Mamool Ja take command of a number of their single-headed kin and head out to form their own warbands. These warbands endlessly seek to outdo one another on the field of battle, in a contest over who will next sit the throne of the Autarch. Rather than simply as a means to earn wealth, Mamool Ja practice of hiring themselves out as mercenaries also appears to play an important role in this display of military prowess.

In the Dawntrail Main Scenario Quests, the Mamool Ja are convinced to abandon the practice of forcibly producing blessed siblings. They are introduced to new crops from Sharlayan that can survive in the understory of Yak T'el.

In modern times, most Mamool Ja live harmoniously among the other races of Tural in the nation of Tuliyollal.

Primary Industry

Mercenary Contracts

The warriors of the Mamool Ja have built a reputation as blades-for-hire, and have several well-established mercenary bands. Drawn by the scent of conflicts that flared following the Calamity, the beastmen crossed the sea to Eorzea to ply their opportunistic trade-a service of which the Kobolds have taken full advantage. [1]

The Mamool Ja and Wivres

The Mamool Ja are known to make use of wivres, a species of large scalekin, for transporting individuals as well as goods. However, as much about the western continent remains uninvestigated, scholars are divided on whether the wivres are fully domesticated, or merely tamed. Further research is required before a definitive conclusion can be reached. [2]
