Etymology
The cane's design seems to be based on the Lamia Staff from Final Fantasy XI, which is a replica of the staff wielded by certain Lamia enemies in that game.
While potentially a concidence, "heartless" is the name of the main enemy type in the Square-Enix series Kingdom Hearts.
