Fourth Astral Era

The Fourth Astral Era was also know as "The Fall of Civilization", for barely any records are left, and seeking knowledge was shunned. After nearly 1.500 years it would lead into the Fifth Umbral Calamity.

Summary of Events

The people deemed the pursuit of knowledge as the downfall of men, and therefore anything that would be close to knowledge seeking was condamned: books were burned, parents refused to teach their children, and those with a little bit of Allagan knowledge left were exiled or killed. Eorzea returned to a state similar to the Second Astral Era. .

Records of the Allagan Empire were kept and used as an educational device to further the church's grasp on the people. The church heavily dictated what information (if any) was given to the people, to the point where religious leaders invented a new alphabet for their scriptures, and they only taught the written language, to solidify their control. This written language would eventually evolve into the Eorzean script present in the realm today.
