It may have looked identical even before the anomalies took hold, though. The comparative lack of relics might simply indicate there were few resources in the region to begin with...
Erg Eris is home to a water source, however. Given how close it is to the Megalithopolis, I daresay the star's former inhabitants made use of it like we do.
