Grants the effect of Dualcast upon casting any spell with a cast time. While under the effect of Dualcast, your next spell will require no time to cast. Effect is canceled upon execution of any action other than an ability. Auto-attacks do not cancel effect.
— In-game description
Dualcast is a trait unlocked at level 1. It is available for Red Mage.
Gameplay
- Dualcast is only granted if a spell was actively casted. If a spell is instantly casted either innately or through any effect that allows spells to be instantly casted (such as Dualcast itself, Acceleration, or Swiftcast), Dualcast will not be granted.
- Dualcast will allow for any spell with a cast time to be instantly casted. It is essential to red mage's playstyle, as some of their spells have an unusually long cast time of 5 seconds–Dualcast will allow these spells to be instantly casted.
- Dualcast should be gained by casting a spell with a shorter cast time, such as Jolt.
- Dualcast is not limited to damage spells – it can also be used to make the cast time on Verraise instant. This allows for red mages to rapidly raise multiple players quicker than any
healer can. This has earned it the nickname of "rez mage" throughout the playerbase.
- This however, does have a practical limit of three players, as Verraise has the standard 2400 MP cost of all resurrection spells. This will leave the red mage with only around 2000 MP. Lucid Dreaming and ethers will be essential to recovery, as they can provide up to an additional 5650 MP.
Interactions
- If Dualcast, Acceleration, and Swiftcast are active at the same time, Acceleration will be consumed first, followed by Dualcast, and finally Swiftcast.
- Vercure will also grant Dualcast. Because it does not require a target, red mages can cast this spell in between downtime. It may also be easier to cast Vercure over Jolt when raising multiple players.
- Sprint will cancel Dualcast, despite being classified as an ability. Calling a Mount will also cancel Dualcast.
- Any external action that has a cast time can also be made instant through Dualcast. This includes:
- All Logos Actions and Lost Actions with a cast time.
- All spells limited to Phantom Jobs.
- Variant Raise.
- Cast times of some spells are not affected by Dualcast (or any status effect that makes cast times instant). A notable exception is
phantom summoner's spells, all of which have a lengthy cast time.
