Hailing from Garlemald, Cato graduated from the Magitek Academy with distinction before enlisting in the imperial army. His brilliance as an engineer earned him a reputation as Midas nan Garlond's right-hand man, but his involvement in the experiment that destroyed Bozja Citadel prompted him to turn his back on his homeland. Seeking to redeem himself, the fifty-two-year-old defected to Ishgard in hopes that his knowledge might serve more peaceful ends.
